American Eagle reacted to Bwana_LB in Heaven@4, Sukh. Soi4 in BKK
@Denbosch1971, your experience mirrors mine. I was shocked at the indifference to customer service, as in virtually every other hotel I've stayed at in LOS the service has been impeccable. At the Mercure I asked for extra towels ("yes sir"), extra clothes hangers ("coming right up"), early cleaning ("she'll be there at 10am"), extra bottled water ("will 4 bottles be ok?"), etc. Last stay I left a coat in the cab I took from the airport to the hotel. The next morning the hotel concierge tracked down the cab and got my coat returned by that evening. Same level of service at the former Majestic Grande and at JW Marriott. Even Citrus Suites Soi 6 was very good about honoring my various requests.
@SAGuy has a point. The Thai and Filipina staff are very service oriented.

Hello everybody. Familiar with Pattaya but much less so Bangkok. Looking to discover the city in either August or September.
Looking forward to reading the forum and learning what I can before then. Cheers!

American Eagle reacted to sydney69er in Sofitel Vs Hyatt Regency
I've not stayed at Sofitel but have stayed at Hyatt Regency many times. It is my preferred hotel in Bangkok. I am a loyal Hyatt member so prefer to stay at a Hyatt (there are now 5 Hyatt's in Bangkok - 2 Hyatt Places Soi 1 and Soi 24, Grand Hyatt near Chit Lom BTS, a Park Hyatt near Ploen Chit BTS and the Hyatt Regency) I've stayed at them all except for the new Hyatt Place on Soi 1. Hyatt Regency is my pick. Probably comparable prices to the Sofitel which is only 100 meters away. Both Hyatt Regency and Sofitel excellent location for access to the LB Triangle - 270 meters to CIB, 500 meters to Cindys (take the short cut down Soi 13 and thru Ambassador Hotel to get to Soi 11) and 650 meters to Why Not (take short cut through Soi 8 - Soi 6 then onto Soi 4).
I've had the buffet breakfast at Hyatt Regency which is excellent but I've not tried lunch or dinner in that restaurant (have heard good things) but there are some excellent restaurants right next to the Hyatt - highly rated Korean BBQ within the Hyatt complex - undercover to get there, Margeritta Storm right next door (open 24 hours) and plenty more walking distance in Soi 13 and Soi 11. Room service food is very good and is delivered in under 30 minutes.
There is also the very cool rooftop bar at Hyatt - Spectrum Lounge with awesome views which you pay for in the drinks and food. I highly recommend paying for the Club Lounge if you don't get it as part of your membership. I prefer breakfast there, coffee/tea, snacks all day long and evening canapes (drinks and snacks) make up for the price of access. The food is very good, enough to make a meal of it! The staff don't hold back in serving drinks. They know me well and bring me my next beer before I finished my last and right at end of the happy hour at 7.30pm they bring me 2 beers.
From Hyatt you can walk undercover to get to Nana BTS. There are escalators at Hyatt which takes you up to the skybridge to get to Nana BTS.
And most importantly, very much guest friendly. Very easy to glide through the reception area to get to the elevators to get to the lifts with your guest/s. I've never been stopped to ask for ID for my 'friend'.
I've stayed a few times in rainy season and I always grab there large umbrellas from reception area incase it rains, most of which I leave at Cindy's or CIB if not raining when I leave.

American Eagle reacted to Bristol1 in Landmark or Adelphi Suites
The Adelphi has a wonderful location, (although the vacant lot at the back of the hotel has been cleared and will be built on in the not too distant future = noise.) I've stayed there multiple times and the staff are really nice and the more expensive rooms are spacious and well kept. However, since Covid their prices have gone up and up and for me the value isn't there anymore. I'd rather get the best rooms at Citrus Suites or ParkRoyal on Soi 6.
YMMV.

American Eagle reacted to Edisto in Landmark or Adelphi Suites
I've stayed at both Landmark and Adelphi. I always preferred the Landmark.
You can ignore my wrench but.... I have a new great discovery which I love much more than either.
A Premium Executive Suite at the Samala Hotel on Soi 15. It's 2 years new.
651 euros
Incl. Breakfast for 2 - the restaurant is excellent
35 sq. Meter room
Request view of the pool
Quiet building. Great restaurants around. Short walk to Soi 11
Very guest friendly and no walk by the concierge desk as it's rather removed.

American Eagle reacted to Bwana_LB in Direct flight to BKK from the US (FINALLY!)
From United Airlines:
"United will be the only U.S. airline to offer daily flights to Bangkok starting October 26. The flights will operate on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner."
The flights are not non-stop, but out of LAX the flight is "direct" with a 2-hr stop in HKG. United flights from other cities will connect with the flight originating from LAX.
I normally don't book this far in advance but there was a very good fare available. The LAX flight leaves in the evening (roughly 11:00p) and arrives in BKK at about 11a. Seems it will be possible to get a good sleep overnight on the HKG-bound portion. Luckily I have an upgrade that will get me into business/Polaris for the entire trip.
I haven't seen anything from Delta or American as to whether they plan direct flights to BKK.

American Eagle reacted to Genghis in Account Delete ?
Why do you keep logging in here if you feel that way?
You've been inactive for 13 years and now suddenly have decided to get your account deleted but in the meantime are just being unnecessarily argumentative across the board.
It doesn't have to be that way if you have issues with the board or whatever, it's easier just not to log on or contribute at all.

If I was hit with a cash fine for every time I quit a message board or listserv without formally deleting my account, I would be in bankruptcy court.

Just don't log in anymore, and shut off all notifications, really no need to delete it if you don't want to come here anymore.

American Eagle reacted to oliver17 in Actual Massage places
Massage places in lower Sukhumvit are more common than 7-11 stores. Soi 8 has 4 or 5 legit massage houses alone. The smaller places pretty much offer the same services for the same prices (300 baht or so for a Thai massage). A good rule of thumb in finding a legit massage is to look for places staffed with middle-aged Thai ladies instead of 21 year old girls.
Below is a place I frequently use when I stay on Soi 8. It's a legit place, reasonably priced. Just tell them what body parts need special emphasis and they will work on them. There are several other massage houses within spitting distance of this one that offer the same fare.

American Eagle reacted to Bimale75 in Air China
Actually thinking about it. I also did the Beijing la route in 2012.
More recently a number of internal flights.
I think the airline hasn’t changed in quality of their service offering.
I think what has changed is the quality of the passengers. (God that sounds awful )

American Eagle got a reaction from Knobby in Air China
I flew Air China from LA to Beijing, Beijing to Chengdu, Chengdu to Beijing, and then Beijing to LA and had no issues at all. That was in 2012, so quality could have definitely slipped.

American Eagle reacted to vuko in Flights: USA to Thailand
I was in in Taiwan two days ago. If people were concerned, they did not show it.
I flew from YUL to AMS and then to Bangkok. The only thing about that flight is that the layover in Amsterdam was 8 hours.
Afteward nice flight to BKK. Then I flew China Airlines to Taipei then Korean to ICN.
Tomorrow I'm going back ICN -> CDG -> YUL with AF
I would not worry too much about the situation in China. Like in Ukraine, if it explodes we hear about it weeks in advance.

American Eagle reacted to sydney69er in Little Tokyo in Bangkok - Soi Thaniya Great Japanese food
When I was in Bangkok back in July, I visited Soi Thaniya in Silom, which is only 300 meters down from Patpong Road. Amazing how many times I had been to Patpong but didn't know about this place they refer to as 'Little Tokyo' or 'Little Japan' due to the entire street being lined with awesome Japanese restaurants, from Japanese BBQ, sushi, ramen shops and plenty of others. An entrance to BTS SkyTrain Sala Daeng station is just on the corner of Soi Thaniya.
I just visited during the day for lunch but heard it is lit up like the streets of Tokyo at night. I just had a ramen noodle soup at a restaurant called Uchidaya Ramen. 270 baht for their Kyushu Tonkotsu 'Special' ramen. Best ramen I have ever eaten!
If you love Japanese food then put this on your list of places to visit in Bangkok. Go there for dinner, then head down to Patpong to pick up your dessert.
They do have some girlie bars here, located in the top floors above the restaurants at street level. I heard they are very much like the 'hostess bars in Tokyo'. These places cater to Japanese business men. I heard like in Japan, they pay a fee for a girl to sit with them and laugh at their jokes, tell them how wonderful they are and pour their drinks. I been to a few hostess bars in Tokyo and never saw the point of them as you can't bar fine the girls there in Tokyo but I believe you can bar fine the ones in Bangkok but at ridiculous Japanese prices, something like 5000 - 6000 Baht. Screw that! Get down to Patpong to pick up what you fancy for the night, GG or LB at proper Bangkok prices.
Definitely worth a visit if you love Japanese food.
