Red Lion has some good English Breakfasts too. Last time I was in town they had a Baht Buster deal 129 Baht for an English Breakfast, eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrown, tomato, baked beans, mushroom, toast, coffee, juice. Not a bad feed.

    Backstory
My work requires meticulous planning, but when it comes to social occasions, the average Thai has better planning skills than me.
So here I was at midday on Christmas Day, nursing a hangover and thinking where can I go for Christmas Lunch?
I live on soi 13 and whilst having a lung torpedo on the balcony, I looked down to the soi for inspiration and saw two very easy options - The German Beer House or the Red Lion...
OK that was easy, Red Lion it is.
    Crimbo Lunch
By the time I got myself together it was around 1700, which was fine, as by my logic, most Brits eat Christmas lunch around 1500, so there should be some tables free. I crossed over the soi and walked in and luckily the theory was right. They also served until 2000 that night.
There were 2 options: main course only for THB 595 or 3 courses for 895. I decided on the latter.
The food options harkened back to the 1970s, which was fine by me, so I chose the prawn cocktail to start, washed down with a bottle of water as I couldn't face any more booze.
For the main course they offered turkey and ham with all the trimmings. It was served on a very large plate, so what looked small,, was actually very large. You could not fault the serving size or the quality of the main course.
For dessert I had the traditional Christmas pudding and another bottle of water.
Service was excellent, it was busy and I was lucky to get a table, as it filled up with what seemed like a second sitting around 1730.
I'd give it 8/10 for what was a last minute decision. Very good value and close(ish) to original food, as I remembered it.
They also have a happy hour every day up until 2000 with cheap beer and they serve Baht Buster breakfasts, which I will give a try over Christmas, as they are served up until midday.
The only 2 negatives I had (which were minor) were
    a. The prawn cocktail had onions in it, which I've never come across before and the raw onions overpowered the taste of the rest.
    b. The Christmas pudding was served as a slice. I have never seen that before either.
I'd recommend the Red Lion overall and now have a go-to Christmas place for next year!

Just checked in here after my first three nights in town at the Mercure.
I did some contact work this year and was in a Marriot hotel for about two months. This gave me enough points to become a Marriot Bonvoy Platinum member and I’m using all those points to stay here for eight days.
My first impressions are very good. Seems quite nice and has a good vibe to it. Check in was fine, but my room was waiting for final inspection so I’m writing this as I wait for it.
I’m not sure if it’s because of my status or because I had to wait for my room to be made up, but they gave me a voucher for a free drink at the pool bar.
The pool bar area is nice, but quite small. I estimate the pool is at least 20 metres, so I can get some laps in (provided I’m the only one using it, but I probably will be as I like to swim in the mornings).  It gets all the morning sun too which is a bonus…the Mercure pool area is a lot bigger, but doesn’t get sun until the afternoon.
I was expecting a basic drink as my freebie, but the bartender Nan made me a legit Long Island iced tea. So far so good. There isn’t a smoking area on the pool floor (10) so I came down to the eighth floor for that.
I’ll add more to this review as I check out my room and the gym and what not…I just wanted to get it started while I’m waiting.
Oh, and here’s a bonus…taking a lovely lady home from the CIB Christmas party is going to be a quick trip, lol

Not stayed at the Capella. I do like a nice 5 star hotel but not at A$900 per night.
Few weeks back I saw a list of Top 50 hotels in the world from some travel company in the UK. They had 4 Bangkok hotels listed:
    3. Four Seasons Chao Praya River, Bangkok 21,000 Thb per night  A$900 per night
    10. Mandarin Oriental Bangkok   34,000 Thb to night A$1463 per night
    11. Capella Bangkok   21,000 Thb per night A$910
    42. The Siam, Bangkok  19,800 Thb per night  A$856 per night
Other than the prohibitive price, I probably wouldn't stay in any of these hotels as none are in the LB Triangle in Sukhumvit

I have a trip coming up very soon and I was considering this place. I hope somebody who has stayed there recently can offer their thoughts.
I stayed there many times when it was Phachara Suites and had some of my most rewarding LB adventures there with Sofie and Jam when they were new on the scene (see below) and several others.  It really did offer the best combo of location, large comfortable suites, huge balconies, jacuzzi bathtubs and a quality pool. I hope things have not changed. Thanks in advance.

sydney69er got a reaction from Uncle-V in Little Tokyo in Bangkok - Soi Thaniya Great Japanese food
When I was in Bangkok back in July, I visited Soi Thaniya in Silom, which is only 300 meters down from Patpong Road. Amazing how many times I had been to Patpong but didn't know about this place they refer to as 'Little Tokyo' or 'Little Japan' due to the entire street being lined with awesome Japanese restaurants, from Japanese BBQ, sushi, ramen shops and plenty of others. An entrance to BTS SkyTrain Sala Daeng station is just on the corner of Soi Thaniya.
I just visited during the day for lunch but heard it is lit up like the streets of Tokyo at night. I just had a ramen noodle soup at a restaurant called Uchidaya Ramen. 270 baht for their Kyushu Tonkotsu 'Special' ramen. Best ramen I have ever eaten!
If you love Japanese food then put this on your list of places to visit in Bangkok. Go there for dinner, then head down to Patpong to pick up your dessert.
They do have some girlie bars here, located in the top floors above the restaurants at street level. I heard they are very much like the 'hostess bars in Tokyo'. These places cater to Japanese business men. I heard like in Japan, they pay a fee for a girl to sit with them and laugh at their jokes, tell them how wonderful they are and pour their drinks. I been to a few hostess bars in Tokyo and never saw the point of them as you can't bar fine the girls there in Tokyo but I believe you can bar fine the ones in Bangkok but at ridiculous Japanese prices, something like 5000 - 6000 Baht. Screw that! Get down to Patpong to pick up what you fancy for the night, GG or LB at proper Bangkok prices.
Definitely worth a visit if you love Japanese food.

I rate Hyatt Regency, not as the best hotel but the best location (for mongers), on corner of Soi 13 Sukhumvit. Price around 7000 THB per night depending on season. I have seen it cheaper but 7K seems to be the average. Suites go for 13,000 THB per night. Great buffet breakfast, nice swimming pool and gym on level 6 and very cool rooftop bar. I have stayed at Park Hyatt (over 16,000Thb per night for standard room) which was very nice but not the same awesome location as Hyatt Regency.
Hyatt Regency is a very nice 5 star hotel. 1 minutes walk to Soi 11 with heaps of restaurants to choose from, and Cindy's Secret.
450 meters - 4 minutes walk to Check-in Bar. 8 minutes walk to Nana Entertainment Plaza, 9 minutes walk to Soi Cowboy. 2 minutes walk to Nana BTS if you want to venture out around Bangkok.
Street walkers (GG and LB) right out the front most nights.
When I stay there I very rarely venture further than 450 meters!
Or Sofitel, just on next block past Soi 13. I have not stayed there but still great location.

I am back staying at Hyatt Regency. I love this hotel. Best location on the corner of Suk and Soi 13, super modern (opened in 2018), great buffet breakfast, awesome Club Lounge on Level 27 with great view, very nice gym and swimming pool on Level 6. Only 280 meter walk to CIB, and about 450m to Cindy's. i doubt I will go any further than 450m in the next 5 nights.
I booked standard room at 6800++ per night. Used a free Suite upgrade and let me tell you the Suite is SWEET! Separate lounge room and huge bathroom.
In my small mind I thought this would impress the girls! last time I stayed in April, I also used Suite upgrade. Brought Patty from CIB back and she didn't mention anything. Brought Nutty from Cindy's, she didn't mention anything. Guess they seen it all before. Last night brought Gaga back and she did say 'Oh big room'.
Funny thing is I stayed a 2nd time in April and brought Nutty back again. Was only in the standard room this time which is still very nice just not as big. Nutty mentioned on this one, just saying, oh you have different room this time!

Just sharing my thoughts of the hotel.
Location is excellent on sukhumvit soi 11. Staff was very friendly and gave a nice welcome. Kinnaree restaurant is part of the hotel which is open 24/7, hotel also have a travel agency inside. I booked the grand suite room. Room itself was spacious. Everything outdated, aircon wasnt that great as well. The bed was a major issue. Mattress way too hard. It felt like sleeping on the floor. Not sure if it was just my bed or all beds are the same? I did ask the staff, but they said its normal. No problem to bring guest to the room. No joiner fee. Security will ask for ID, and have the guest sign a document.
I had 2 nights booked, but checked out after one night. I just couldnt sleep well because of the bed. Bed is perfect for having sex on though, if that's something to have in consideration.
There are so many hotels in Bangkok with good value for the money, for me this was not one of them. If someone have considered staying here, and dont like beds that are too hard then maybe this is some good advice to reconsider.

Tomorrow I'm going back ICN -> CDG -> YUL with AF
I would not worry too much about the situation in China. Like in Ukraine, if it explodes we hear about it weeks in advance.

It's basically a suite and is pretty much the size of two rooms, but that aside it is posistioned above Hooters and I have three large windows looking down onto the NEP entrance and also where the freelancers gather.....maybe they secretly log your visits and thought his time has come for a bit of VIP hospitality!!...highly unlikely but for just under 1,800B a night it is excellent value!
