Capella Bangkok

Recommended Posts

Has anybody stayed in the Capella?.

I received a poll on the top 100 hotels in the world. Like a lot of these things you can take them with a grain of salt. Supposedly voted on by guests.

Capella BKK was on the list.

Noticeable was the lack of hotels from the Middle East.

One of the only top shelf hotels I have stayed at is the Burg Al Arab in Dubai. Self rated as a seven star. Maybe too old now. Built in the late 90's I think.

It was mind blowing.

Not stayed at the Capella. I do like a nice 5 star hotel but not at A$900 per night.

Few weeks back I saw a list of Top 50 hotels in the world from some travel company in the UK. They had 4 Bangkok hotels listed:

3. Four Seasons Chao Praya River, Bangkok 21,000 Thb per night  A$900 per night
10. Mandarin Oriental Bangkok   34,000 Thb to night A$1463 per night
11. Capella Bangkok   21,000 Thb per night A$910
42. The Siam, Bangkok  19,800 Thb per night  A$856 per night

Other than the prohibitive price, I probably wouldn't stay in any of these hotels as none are in the LB Triangle in Sukhumvit

Yep, the Burg was $1600 AUD per night back in the day, about the year 2000. A meal was $300.00. Crazy shit but had to do it. Each block of about 5 rooms had their own butler. I tried to enter the lift with my golf shoes in a plastic bag. Was told,(in a nice way), that it would not happen. He went and got me a proper carry bag!.

The hottest weather I had ever been in and also played golf. Hit 51 degs!!!!!
