This imaging/scanning regime at Suvarnabhumi is getting tedious now.
Unnecessary congestion being created at the departure levels, pedantic following of the mandate.
As it is, they are scanning walk throughs via that giant chamber, balls and all.
Maybe, they want to make sure tourists return home with their balls completely drained.

Hi there,  headed back to Thailand at the end of this week and was thinking of going the esim route I was wondering how AIS esim works and does it run at the same time as my current t US SIM card or can I for lack of a better term can I turn the US 1 off so I'm not charged for service while gone?

    Arrived yesterday around 19.45
Took me like 10 min to pass immigration and 5 min for luggage
Been like this for the last 5 months it really improved. They even organise people to go in thai passport booths to make it faster.

Well got news today that my customer might be flying to Italy to watch my event which means he will take the packages back with him and I will be free as a bird with no large luggage.
Whoppee!, but I wish he had told me a few days ago. I could have booked a cheaper flight without having to worry about the luggage aspect. Never mind, musn't grumble.

Get on Agoda ,input bangkok Sukhumvit into the search, then open the map and look for the hotels around Soi 7 to Soi 11 that have "Flash Deals".
You 'll probably get a better room for your money that way.

I think AIS(1 2 call) only does esims for existing customers. But DTAC has them and you can order them online.Best to order just before (1 or 2 days before) you depart and they send you a QR code to download the Esim.I think this is the way to go from now on.No more messing about with SIM cards or hanging about the airport to get one.
You can just go to settings and switch between which SIM you want to use at that time. This is the one I'm looking at at the moment:-
    https://esim2fly.com/product/dtac-tourist-esim-thailand-8day/#cr_qna
But if you're going to go to Thailand regularly , the ones direct from DTAC are much better packages and you have the option of choosing your phone number:-

    Hey,
if you buy a first class Heathrow express ticket from Paddington London to heathrow then you can use the fast track / vip security section at heathrow.
i tested it in November and it worked. I was through security in less than 5 mins.
Standard class is roughly 25 quid and first class was 32. (Although could always use Elizabeth line but takes an extra 40 mins plus going through normal security).

Could be a useful alternative if pressed for time or can’t be arsed with the long waits!!

For Thai food, I'd recommend Suda.
It's in a little side road opposite Terminal 21, very reasonably priced. Always a bit of a "TripAdvisor darling" type of place. Like most places, they were on their arse during the pandemic but starting to pick up again now. I remember going there to eat in 2020 just after restaurants had been allowed to reopen again and the owner and staff were so happy to see me, like they hadn't seen a customer in a while. Very popular with tourists, but not so much the locals.

    Didn't see much of it!
Was only inside about 20 mins.
By time the 1st flight landed and did a very long taxi run around the airport it was finally time to leave the plane.
As we came off those of us going onto BKK were rushed to a security check that took about 30 seconds then straight from gate 35 to gate 28.
Then we joined the back of the queue to the already boarding connecting flight.
Cathay Pacific had cut it that fine.

Question on general taxi fares in BKK nowadays.

It used to be a taxi from Asoke to Suvarnabhumi was about B280-B300 excluding the Tolls (B75).
Few weeks ago I was there and the meter seemed to be out of control. I mentioned to the driver when still halfway there, that it shouldn't already be reading over B300. I got the old "my english no good". I insisted and insisted and eventually at the airport, while the meter was showing B615, he said "Okay Okay, B500 okay".
I paid him, only because on the way I'd texted a mate that lives in BKK to ask about rate to the airport and he came back with "Oh around B600" which I thought was nuts. When I asked if fares had suddenly jumped, he replied "Ahh you could be right, yeah that seems a lot". So I was then confused, had a flight to catch, so paid him the B500.

Anyway, have fares in BKK gone up that much? Last time I had been there was pre-COVID, but the fares had been pretty standard (apart from the odd increase), for many years.
It could be that fares really have gone up, or maybe now that tourists are back, taxis are just taking the piss again.

They're handy even if you take a checked-in  bag.....no need for a carry-on.Everything you'd usually put in a carry-on will fit in the vest.
    And convenient going through security.

    Exactly.
But as I mentioned in an earlier post, if I take a checked in bag I still use the vest. That way I don't need a carry on.Everything I would usually put in a carry on fits in the vest.A breeze going through security too....No messing around emptying your pockets, etc.
Another thing I bought from Scottevest was a windbreaker. I ride a motorcycle everyday , and because I can get everything I need into it,I don't need to hump around a rucksack or daysack/backpack. Just another option to think about.

I might get one, or one similar. I see fishing vests are of the same type with lots of pockets.
I do have and use a small shoulder bag for day-to-day use.

The best way to do this is to wear multiple layers of clothing. Yes you are legally allowed to wear multiple layers. I mean two or three pairs of underwear. A pair of shorts and your pants over that. 3 socks and two t shirts and a polo shirt over them. Grab a t shirt and roll it over your head as a turban.
The rest you can put it in your carry on. Once you get thru the airline staff just take those off and put them in your carry on.

There's a neat trick you can use on Skyscanner to help get the best price, click the link (just under where it says flights) that shows you the daily price for the whole month.

As you can see the price varies wildly.

I have 3 SotteVests and have been using them for over 10 years--never go without wearing one.   I carry everything in the vest that I do not want to lose and that I want to access during the flights.  I also haven't checked a bag for 25 or more years and my trips are usually 4-6 weeks.  Never had a problem finding a wash and fold shop, and some hotels will do it cheaply.
