I have been trying to cancel a Thai Airways flight from Bangkok to Sydney. I guess I am not surprised that a SEAsian company has very bad customer support!
I also had a Qantas flight from Sydney to Bangkok booked using Frequent Flyer points. That took about 1 minute and a few clicks to cancel. Just logged into my account, click click click, cancelled. The frequent flyer points were back in my account next day less 6000 points Cancel Fee as expected.
Thai Airways! I have flown them a few times and it is a nice airline when things go well. First of all, I am a Royal Orchid Plus account member but only basic status. In my ROP account, I cannot see my flight booked. So unable to cancel via my account.
When I go to Manage My Booking from the original flight email confirmation, there is no way to Cancel a flight. I can Modify Flight and choose a different flight but no Cancel Option.
I emailed service@thaiairways.com as per instructions on their website. Still waiting for a response to that email after 10 days.
I tried emailing the Sydney Thai Airways office at customer.service@thaiairways.com.au - no reponse so far.
I called the Sydney call centre. They said they cannot help as the flight leaves from Bangkok, I have to call the Bangkok call centre. They did say I could also email contact@service.thaiairways.com. I tried that email, it doesn't exist! Great work Sydney customer service!
I have tried calling the Bangkok call Centre 3 times. Supposively open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. When i call I get a long message in Thai. It then says for English press 9. I press 9, then get a long message in Thai then it disconnects.
I will keep trying but the way things are going Thai Airways will be added to my No Fly List:
    1. Malaysia Airlines - had same issue getting refund for a flight they cancelled - Business class ticket only a few hundred dollars, from KL to Bali. Never got a refund. Long long story, many calls, long waits in queue, many emails. Waste of time. BANNED.
    2. British Airlines - attrocious service and food (but have not flown with them for over 20 years). Got snapped at by one of the fat pasty English bitches for asking for a 2nd drink during the meal from London to Singapore.
    3. United Airlines - flown them 4 times Business Class between Sydney and US. Business Class only has cranky, old American bitches and terrible food! Never again.
    4. Thai Airways TBC

I finally got thru to Thai Airways customer support. Went through the same number. pressed 9 for English but listened to the Thai (I know next to no Thai but I do know numbers) I heard neung, then later heard Song, so presume they were giving me options to press. 1 for x, 2 for y. I pressed 1 and got on hold music. Within 1 minute someone answered in Thai, I asked if they could speak English They just said hold on. More on hold music. 30 seconds later girl answers in English. Took minutes to read out my flight confirmation number, her mistaking every letter for a number and every number for a letter. 'Reference number is '3'  she says did you say P, no 3, the number, Sam. Oh Sam OK sir. Then next letter is F. She said did you say S? on and on through 5 digits. I even used the Phoenetic Alaphet which is standard in aviation industry. F is for Foxtrot. She had no idea what I was saying. She finally repeated back and found my flight details. She then said she would check my flight conditions. On hold for 2 minutes.
Came back and said I could cancel but cancel fee 6000 Thb = A$250 Aussie dollars (fuck that's 3 STs!). OK. Think the flight was only about $750 so atleast will get $500 back. Better than nothing. She then says it will take up to 180 to get the refund. 6 months seriously? How can they bill your card in seconds, but refunds take 6 months? Things that make you go hmmmmm.
Last year I had ANA cancel a flight in Japan, was due to Thyphon. Called their call centre. Did take 15 minutes to get through but that day many flights had been canceled. They gave me options to either reschedule, get a credit or get refund. I went for refund. Money was back on my credit card next day. No fee. I guess it is different as ANA cancelled that flight, and I cancelled this flight but seriously, it has been a mission to contact them, zero responses to emails. I'm done.
Thai Aiways. BANNED. You are on the No Fly List!
Makes me remember, more than 20 years ago, I was at Lumphini Stadium to watch Thai kick boxing. Sat next to an American guy who lived in Bangkok. He was telling me all the stuff the Thai Governement own, told me back then Thai Airways was actually owned by the Thai Miliatry. Any profilts went to feed their Generals. hahahahaha. TIT.

I recently travelled with an Esim purchased from Nomad. It was good for six SE Asian countries and the plan I chose was for 40days. Set up was easy via a QR code (need to use another device) and worked fine. While you are using the Esim, you won't receive calls or messages to your home number, so you need to to swap back to your home Sim to get these missed calls etc. I did this a few times a day when I had WIFI. Just remember to turn off mobile data when you do this, to prevent any charges form your home service provider.

Without revealing all my plans I will be going to Thailand intending to stay up to a year starting from June.
I won't reveal how I am going to do it yet but I have this question,
Being English and with a UK passport, We all know I will get the standard 30 days ( unless it's still at 90? which was temporary)
So I will be leaving Heathrow on a one-way ticket. I did this before in 2019 but I did have a ticket (genuine) to Cambodia as I had a week there.
The bloke at the check-in desk picked up right away that I was on a single and said I couldn't enter Thailand on a one-way ticket. I had the Camboida ticket so I showed him the booking as he was happy.
This time however is different, the visa I hope to get means my passport will be sent away and I will get a 90-day extension while the visa gets issued.
How to get out of Heathrow on a one-way ticket?
Any tips apart from actually buying a genuine ticket which I will end up not using and is a waste of money?

I have a trip coming up very soon and I was considering this place. I hope somebody who has stayed there recently can offer their thoughts.
I stayed there many times when it was Phachara Suites and had some of my most rewarding LB adventures there with Sofie and Jam when they were new on the scene (see below) and several others.  It really did offer the best combo of location, large comfortable suites, huge balconies, jacuzzi bathtubs and a quality pool. I hope things have not changed. Thanks in advance.

Based on 20+ years of flying worldwide while I was still working, I can safely say there are no bigger pigs on a plane than Chinese people. Use Air China at your own risk! The comment about hacking and spitting are spot on.

I suggest you wait for prices to drop. They do things differently from the rest. A short 1 or 2 hour flight? Maybe. Big Maybe!
But anything more? Don't risk it.

5 or 6 year ago I had a fly to Chengdu on Air China. During the night one lady was watching movies on her tablet. The sound on, without earphones. I stopped a flight attendant : could she ask the lady to put the earphones ? The flight attendant was embarrassed : sorry sir, I can do nothing. People here (cf in China) do as they want.
The price will have to be very good to choose Air China again.

Done air China on short haul. somebody was “cuffed” for smoking in the bathroom. The combination of smells from all the packed lunches was overpowering and the man beside decided it was okay to hack, cough and spit into a cup all the way through the trip
    Ymmv but …
Let me put it this way. That will be an epic journey long haul.
but it’s out of London so may be better

Am really thinking of booking with Air China, Looking at Sky Scanner for £550 with 4 free seats from Heathrow to Bangkok in November.
That is nearly £500 cheaper than the flight I was looking for, which was Emirates from Stansted. The price from Stansted is nearly £1000 plus 4 seats
Looking at reviews for Air China the carry-on is only 5kg, the meals and inflight entertainment are not the best, and some reviews say the screen wasn't even working.
Thinking about it I could take on sandwiches and snacks, take my laptop loaded with movies and TV series.
I could get around the 5kg limit by taking my laptop stuffing some things in the laptop bag and using self-check-in. In the past using self-check-in nothing got weighed when you only got carry-on.
Then if the screen doesn't work or the selection is rubbish I got my own entertainment. Taking snacks gets around the meal choices.
    So, what do you think?
Go for it. or wait and see if prices drop for other airlines and airports?

I used them before they joined star alliance. Ages ago. Had friend used them recently and they said they were good.
Service onboard was good not Singapore standards but not far off.
Didn’t like the non lie flat beds, kept falling down them. But I think they are fully flat now.
only done premium economy and their old business class product.
def use them again if the price was right. Currently out of the UK the prices are too high for me to justify them though.

I fly a lot on them. They have PE on some of their 789 and all 777. Service is good on PE and business class. Never flew economy on them so can’t comment.
in fact I am flying with them tomorrow too. PE seats are worth it because the pitch and width is good. Separate small cabin for PE. Looks like the old business class. Fairly good recline. If you need to get out obviously the best is an aisle seat in the middle row. The 777 has 2-4-2 in PE. There is a foot rest too. The Inflight Entertainment is crap though.

My info. might be out of date as it was around 10 years ago I stayed there, but as there were no replies I thought it might help.
I stayed there with my ex-girlfriend(Not LB!),at that time it was more expensive than the rates you were quoted. It was over 3,000 baht per night.
The room was spacious, with a nice bed an furniture. At that time its Indian restaurant was one of the best in BKK.I Don't know about now.Short walk to the BTS.
BUT.......The one thing you should check before booking is if it is joiner free/friendly.At that time it wasn't joiner friendly. My ex was ok because she checked in with me.
For a definite answer, Send them an email and make sure you'll be ok taking LBs/GGs back......What's the point in staying there if you can't!!!!!
As I said before , my info (hopefully) is out of date.Hope this helps

10 minutes to wait for my bag and bang in a taxi. No queues at immigration
Taxi took just over 45 minutes from Old Swampy to Sukhumvit Soi 13, a bit of traffic on the highway. Taxi cost 275 Baht plus 2 tolls, 25 and 50 baht.

Arrived back yesterday at 4 pm. After arriving at immigration I would say less than 5 minutes and I was through. The walk to immigration took longer. Good to see it has all been revamped. Many desks open, no queues. The baggage was fast, no long wait for the first bag to come through. I think all in all from the time I got to immigration it was less than 15 minutes and I was in a taxi. Walking through my front door before 6 pm. Less than two hours from touch down to home is a record.
