Good thai food near Soi 11?

I used to go to Cabbage and Condoms for regular thai food, only because a colleague had taken me there and no other reason

If I want regular thai food in a nice average place, what can you guys recommend within walking distance or 1 or 2 stops away on the BTS?

The sea food joint on the corner of Sukhumvit and soi 11/1 is always very busy, often with queues waiting outside.

I've never bothered to go in there, but the Cambo girls from CS11 really rate it.

The Swan on soi 4 across the street from WN04 is also very good Thai food and great value. I've been there lots of times either before/after visits to WN04 and every time I have taken a girl there, they have always enjoyed it.

Finally, Kinaree in the New Business Inn on soi 11, near to Sukhumvit Road looks like a farang diner but has very good Thai food. In fact the Thai food is better than the farang food. Never had a complaint in the 10+ years I have been going there and it is open 24/7.

Ah yes, Krua Khun Puk I think, very good food over there! The little cafe in front is also part of it and there are a few tables for 1-2 over there that can be free even when queues (for groups of more than 2) are waiting for the main area.

 

Another nice place (especially for sea food!) which was recommended to me by a LB is Insaf Court on Soi 13 @pointplace

What price range are you looking at? There's loads of great options nearby but there's probably better available within your stated range of 1-2 stops (and it improves again if you travel 2 more IMO) and I can suggest a few if I know what you'd like in terms of pricing or if it's any specific type of Thai food you'd like. I won't focus on stuff around Nana as that's already well covered and done so on this site but also isn't the best spot in town for Thai food tbh.

Here's a cheap gem for you though and it's conveniently located right by BTS Phrom Phong. It's the first one in this video which is worth watching to see the range available in this place which sets it apart from most competitors. I like this place a lot. 

The second place in the same video Rung Ruaeng (on Soi 26),  is extremely well regarded too but it has a more limited range and it's not something that I love personally as I'm just not into the main dish they serve but my girlfriend still drags me there trying to convert me. 

The suggestion of Ruam Sab market from BM @Loki27 is an excellent one, some great authentic Thai food here. It's extremely busy at peak times and can get quite hot too but it's worth that for the experience and the food. 

In the other direction on the BTS line there's a crazy amount of food options to explore. Not necessarily the best but just the first to pop into my hangover fogged brain this morning would be Sanguan Sri in Ploenchit for an old-school place with good food.

Maybe a little too far for your needs would be Soi Convent which is off Silom (BTS Sala Daeng so just 1 stop more but worth it for a trip to this area IMO), this is a fantastic area for street food. Just walk down there when hungry and grab whatever appeals as it's pretty much all great due to the competition. 

This is not even scratching the surface of the amazing food options obviously but can give a lot more if and when I sober up. 

I know this is further away than requested but writing this has got me missing the food in BKK so I will put them here anyway.

If I was to recommend one district to go to eat in BKK now I'd say Ari which is just a few more stops on the BTS Sukhumvit line, just a lovely part of town (it's where I've been staying when in a relationship and not crawling the LB bars recently) with high quality food everywhere.

If I was to recommend one restaurant in Bangkok right now I'd say Charmgang in Talat Noi/ Chinatown. Best curries I've ever tried and everything else is great there too. It's where I went on my birthday and will be the first place I have booked for my return to Bangkok in September, for a reason. 

As usual, sorry for rambling when hungover. At least it keeps me off the streets for another hour.

Last time I stayed at the Grand Business Inn, I was in my usual spotters position on a bar stool overlooking the footpath. A position which has produced two contacts over the past couple of years. (Yes I know, not a good strike rate, but ok for not really trying). 

I was approached by one of the waiters and asked if I wanted to buy something. Food or a drink. I said no, I had just finished dinner. He replied that if I was sitting there I had to buy something. I left as i was heading to CIB anyway. I enquired in the morning as to the need to buy something. Was told that the restaurant area was owned by a brother or brother in law of the hotel manager. A different lease.

regarding Ruam Sab market, i am always there at around 11 am for my breakfast / lunch whatever you want to call it
Try to avoid 12 am to 2 pm as it gets really crowded with all the office workers and students from the university on the other side of the street.

But at this market you get local thai food to local prices absolut worth it.

I finally got to eat at Krua Khun Puk on the corner on Soi 11/1. After walking past a thousand times thinking i've got to try it, i went in. I had walked past at 2pm and it was packed. Went back at 3.30pm and it was still packed. As I was alone they stuck me on a table with other solo, no friends like me  - last seat available.

Had their braised pork noodle soup. 50 baht for small bowl, I went for large bowl for 60 baht. YUMMO. Loads of different cuts of pork, chunks of braised pork (not as tender as I thought it would be but still delicious), fried slices of pork, pork balls (much smaller than I except a pig ball to be hehehehe) and some pork liver (i'm not a fan.....). You get a choice of 6 different noodles, thin noodles, thick noodles, egg noodles....I went for the flat rice noodles. This is not spicy at all. You can spice it up with the dried chill on the table.

Can of coke 20 baht, so had a very delicious, decent meal for 80 baht A$3.50. Felt like a right cheap charlie. I'm going back for sure!

Hengs kitchen on soi 13 is a good bet too. Service is a bit spotty with the young guy but good from the ladies. Tom yum, tamarind river prawns, papaya salad, crab fried rice. And inexpensive too.

There is a laundry shop at the corner but I cannot recall a beauty parlour.

I’d ask you guys to give Bangkok Burgers go. It is at the top of soi 11, just a you come in from Sukhumvit, next to the 7/11 (141 Soi Sukhumvit 11, Khlong Toei Nuea, Watthana). The burgers are cheap and pretty good. 
most of all, they serve good Thai food on the top floor. I really enjoyed their Tom yom goong, particularly prawns, tamarind prawns and other dishes. The Tom yum came with a good number of fairly large prawns, fresh too and the soup was just glorius. I must have eaten there 3 or 4 times. Although on the top floor, there is an open air area where tenants (also a dorm/hotel of some kind) where guests smoke cannabis. The smell is excruciating. Especially when you’re trying to enjoy your food.

If you're ever looking for a high quality (but more expensive than Krua Khun Puk etc of course) option on Soi 11, maybe for a date etc I'd recommend Burapa. 

It specialises in Eastern Thai food, lots of good seafood and some unusual dishes that you don't see often. It's tje sister restaurant to Sri Trat which is one of my favourite places further up Sukhumvit on Soi 33.

The restaurant has a good atmosphere,  it's decorated like the Orient Express train and is also a good spot for a few drinks.

Not somewhere that I'd recommend for a cheap meal when out mongering but a cool place if you want to take someone out to a very nice restaurant that would still be cheaper than most other date type venues we've discussed previously here and with food that would probably be better than most of them too IMO, for Thais at least.
