I am not anti-truvada. In fact, I said that I support you taking it if you want to lower your risk. I would rather see you taking it than not taking it.
 
Truvada has only been shown to be 99% effective if you're taking it every day and that is in controlled studies. I'll reiterate that it's just a drug, and every drug's effectiveness can be reduced by your behavior, other drugs, and other things you ingest. If you're taking PREP and walking around feeling like you're risk has been lowered, then that's smart. If you're taking PREP and thinking that HIV is now a "non-issue" then I think you've got your blinders on. The fact that men have gotten HIV while taking PREP should be enough proof for anyone to be cautious.
 
And even if you're taking PREP, it doesn't protect you against hepatitis, gonorrhea, or any of the other drug-resistant strains of infections that people are dying from here every day. So I hope you're using condoms in addition to PREP. If I were a "concern troll" then I would definitely be taking prep, but I just use condoms so that I have range of protection against everything. I just got over a drug-resistant strain of phlarnygitis.... It took 3 rounds of different antibiotics and multiple hospital visits over two months to finally knock it out. It spread to my tonsils and sinuses, and at one point I thought I was going to die because of how fucked up I was from the sickness and the high dose of antibiotics I was on. If I had caught that on my dick, who knows what kind of damage it could have caused.
 
Of course "no one gets out alive", but it's up to you to keep yourself alive as long as possible. Please, by all means take PREP... I highly encourage you to. But don't use it as your only protection.

I took a girl to Cae Villas. Doesn't really fit your close to beach but each villa has private pool. She loved it and I was very well rewarded. Booked through agoda.

I'm going a little road trip this year with some BMs and our ladies and Hua Hin is one of the places we plan on going for a couple of nights so thanks randandy69 for this thread and thanks guys for the info on places to stay!

I have stayed at the hotel Ibis in Hua Hin a couple of times. It's pretty far from the main area, but very close to the beach and just a stroll down the side road. It has a nice big swimming pool and the rooms are just like any of the other Ibis hotels in Thailand. Built in 2012 I went there twice in 2013 . It's a motorcycle ride to Soi Binabaht where are the main night life area is.
 
My mate stayed at Bann Nilrath just around the corner from the nightlife area and it looked good but I had already booked Ibis Hotel again after going there with Michelle in March of that year.

Having only been to hua hin once many years ago but with a trip planned in October with another BM, can anyone recommend me a nice hotel to stay?
 
criteria are:
Close to town and bars, ie walking distance or a short taxi ride
Close to a nice area of beach.... Actually on it even better
Swimming pool a bonus
Top end budget 5k baht per night ideally
rooms need to be nice too and not too old where you get that musty aircon smell some places.
 
Oh and obviously hotel staff that won't make an issue of us bringing ladyboys with us

The hotel is spitting distance from the Marriott and sort of across the street from the new mall. It is absolute beachfront and sits on probably the best part of Hua Hin beach. No vendors, no people, no donkeys. Just sand, sea. The hotel is small, maybe just 30 rooms and it's family owned. I would assume it is LB friendly, most Thai places are in my experience.
 
I travelled with a GG so its going back maybe 4 years. We had a deluxe room which is basically a small block of rooms toward but not on the main road and it was about 2,500b night through one of the booking sites, forget which. You are so far down the small lane, you do not hear any traffic noise. Small balcony and no view. Room was very clean but simply kitted out. Nice bathroom, good bed, good linen. No complaints and air con effective.
 
They have a small pool which is where the garden bungalows are situated. Seafront villas have stunning views. Garden villas have no view. The restaurant/bar is kind cool in the style of a beachfront casual eaterie you'd expect to find on Bondi Beach with large wood windows all opened up and getting the sea breeze (plus the sand) coming through. Service is not to the same style though but the food was good. Great almost and cheap.
 
I'd go back in a heartbeat just for its position on the quiet beach. It is about 100m walk along the sand to what was the Marriott and now called something else. We often ate in their beachfront steak house which while pricey was also excellent. Just steer clear of wine unless you fancy a heart attack when the bill arrives. You can walk it into town, but its a good 10 minute walk, longer if the lb's are heeled up. At the end of the lane (on main road, about 150m) you can hail a tuk tuk to save your legs.
 
I researched a lot for that trip and took a punt on this as it was pretty cheap for absolute beachfront. It's not a 'polished' resort, service can be quirky but as I say, I'd stay there again.

Also stayed there on my last week in November. I had Paris come up from Pattaya to spend the last two nights with me. Reception just rung me up to let me know she arrived. I went down to tell them she will be staying with me for my last couple of nights. When I checked out at 9am to go to the airport two days later, I asked is it ok for her to stay till checking out time ? They said no problem.

Just noticed I never did come back on this thread. Can confirm this hotel was certainly ladyboy friendly when I was there- had a great bathroom with jacuzzi too at a decent rate in the room I stayed. Absolutely full of japanese though with massage joints catering to them literally outside the reception, but a handy walking distance to Darkside bar...
For any people who are not fully mobile though, some pretty steep steps and no lift to get up to reception level- lugging a case up in 30 degree+ heat was not so fun.

@Mind is on soi 85 and has an ok gym and small rooftop pool. More for lounging around than doing laps. The one bedroom apartment is excellent value. Kitchen area with dining table, lounge with sofa, flatscreen and tiny balcony. Bathroom ok. Bedroom excellent (another wall mounted flatscreen). As OTS said excellent location. Good price too. I've booked for a return visit in Oct.

Bless has large spacious rooms and a pretty good location in soi 33. The pool on the rooftop however is more like a bathtub...
 
Not sure about the pricing, but it might be worth having a look at the GM Suites (soi 3), Lohas Suites ( soi 2), Fraser Suites (soi 11) or Shama (soi 4)

Citadine's are worth a look. Studio and one bed apt's in Soi 8,11,16 from memory. The one in Soi 8 is quite far down the soi and not much around it. The one in Soi 16 is next door to a new large Foodland 24 hour supermarket. The one in Soi 11 is as I recall adjacent to the old Bed Supperclub. One bed's are frankly a waste of money - studios just as big almost and better layout. Can't remember pricing but should be around your budget.

@mind is out on Soi 84 but it's only a year old and a few minutes walk to On Nut BTS and nine minutes on the BtTS to Nana. Going back in the early hours it's less than a hundred baht.
 
Never have anyone in that area bother me as no hawkers or p4p in that area. There is a night market that does good food and beer, a Tesco Lotus with a food hall and the usual Starbucks and macydees brrrrgh.

Stayed there for a few nights last week. I agree with the positive comments made here earlier and will stay there again. Only negative was that they didn't change my towels when cleaning the room but when I pointed that out in the reception someone came to my room with fresh towels after two minutes so not a big problem.
 
I kind of liked that I can sit in the bed and watch my date get ready for some action.
 
 

 
 

No hassle with my 5 3somes at icheck inn . Always tip the cleaners though and bring an extra towel in my case!
 
As for sweetheart bar next door,it's tricky as don't want to shit on your own doorstep... But the looks and often conversations they strike up with my barfine are funny.
