I never have gotten a SIM card in Thailand.  I plan on getting a 15 day card.  My question is when you get a card, does it include a local phone number?

Thanks

Why not buy an E-Sim? If you have a newer phone you can buy these online.

DTAC do a 15 day unlimited data, texts and local calls for $19.95 USD

https://www.dtac.co.th/en/prepaid/products/tourist-sim.html

Airalo have an app which you can buy the E Sim or online in the website.

If it's locked to a network , will it work with a Thai Sim card?

I got an older phone that is 4G which is good enough but it is too old for e-sim

Dtac has been good for me and you can keep the number alive for one year for 30 baht even if you don't use it or top up. Once you come back, you just add another 8-15 days unlimited package or whatever. So you keep the same number always.

What is the cost for 15 day tourist sim?  Since I arrive on Sunday, I have just enough cash to get to hotel plus a few bucks.  Have to wait until Monday to hit up vasu

This is cheaper than the Tourist plan at the airports. What about calls buddy?

15 day sim could cost about 800B.
I usually pay 500B for roughly 12 days.

Actual phone calls (who does that anymore????) are 1 baht per minute, extra charge on top of the 150 baht plan. But I never make phone calls using the Thai phone number.

That sounds incredibly expensive compared to 150B for 30 days.

I've posted on this topic before, and will share it here as well. If you go directly the AIS flagship store in EmQuartier Mall, you can get deals that are not advertised anywhere. My pre-paid plan is $4 US (150 baht) for 30 days. That includes 5GB of 5g data. If I go over 5GB (very unlikely), it's then free unlimited data at 3g speeds.

Your choice of either a SIM Card or E-sim.

I have had the same Thai phone number for over a year, just by topping this up every time I'm here for a visit.

I’m with @Gambino on this … +1 for AIS. I got my prepay AIS SIM at Terminal 21 back at the start of 2020 when I was on a two month stay. I told them my situation, foreigner but staying more than 30 days and they gave me something called “The One SIM”. Can’t remember how much it cost at the time, I think it may even have been free subject to loading some cash on it, but almost 5 years later it still works and I still have the same Thai number to use (despite my flying back and forward to Europe).

I don’t know how their algo works, but top ups for me have fallen to 30 baht for 10GB full speed 5G for 7 days, and that’s what I buy on a rolling basis. Far cheaper than a the major eSIM providers as far as I can tell, and my AIS roaming costs for using in other parts of Asia are also low at 450 baht for 8GB for 10 days. Local SIM cards are a massive no brainer.

While I can see the value of this, I prefer a fresh start with a new number each visit. There's always a clingy few I never want to have contact with again.
