I've always gone to Fortune Town. It's opposite Central Rama 9 and can be reached by Rama9 Station on the MRT.

Cheers for the heads up, those questions are in there to try and foil spam bots, probably hasn't been updated in years, I'll look into it and get someone to fix it....

Did they ever replace that dinosaur amusement park thing up the street with anything? It's been closed for a couple of years, but there was no construction activity on the property last time I saw it. That land has got to be worth God knows what.
I actually visited it with an LB once. It did have an old school low tech sort of charm and it was hard not to like it for what it was. That said, I passed on riding the giant ferris wheel because I know it caught on fire at least twice. Thailand conquered the virus but the guarantee of riding a ferris wheel without being incinerated is asking too much, apparently.

The other thing I noted from Sticks column was he talked about Scala Cinema near Siam Square closing,
I was sad to see it go but it was inevitable. I went to see films there a few times, it really had the feel of going to the UK Cinema in the 80s. No computer system for ticketing, they'd just cross off the seats on a sheet of paper. Popcorn for 40B and older style seating. Luckily Bangkok has about 684 soulless multiplexes to choose from instead.

There was a new night market "Rod Fai" style place that opened almost on my doorstep, I think they only had a few days running before the CV lockdown hit.

I hope to road test it if they are allowed to open soon.

There are plenty of areas of Bangkok that are dead to me if there’s no MRT/BTS link but the map has really grown in the last 18 months.
The MRT Blue line is now a full loop, a la the London Circle Line and since they pushed the BTS Green line on past Mo Chit, they've been opening stations every few months. The last stop, Ku Khot, is right near Don Muang....but behind it. I’m sure enterprising taxi drivers and Songtaews will hang out there once it’s open.
I don’t think there will be any kind of direct rail from DM to Swampy until the Chinese bullet train from Laos to Pattaya is running...one of those I’ll believe it when I see it projects.
I think the ARL to Don Muang is due next year but it well terminate from the new all singing and dancing Rail hub at Bang Sue. Although most of the line and stations look ready, the big hub at Bang Due still looks some way off and CV19 probably hasn’t exactly sped up construction.

The BTS Skywalk from Asok station is currently being extended past Robinson/Times Square mall, and now reaches all the way to just outside Artbox on Soi 10.
Very handy if you don't like dealing with Bangkok sidewalks and crossing Sois.
It probably only leaves about 150m between the furthest Asok and Nana BTS exits.

ShyguyUK and myself had our traditional New Year's lunch this Friday at Artur, a very traditional steak house with a lot of classic French dishes on the menu such as frog legs, burgundy snails, sole meuniere, pan fried foie gras, bisque d'homard, home made sauces such as an excellent Bearnaise etc etc. The last few years we had always opted for Le Normandie, but we decided to mix it up this year around and we sure as hell didn't regret that decision. The food was more than excellent!

Artur ( https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Restaurant/ARTUR-Restaurant-330562996849/ ) is located in Soi Ton Son, in between Phloenchit and Chidlom BTS stations. I exited at Chidlom and it took me about 5 minutes on foot to get there. I had the Bisque D'homard ( lobster soup), sole meuniere and tarte tatin accompanied by some wines recommended by the Thai female chef ( who speaks fluent English and French). Full marks all around and the return factor is very high!

Very quiet for lunch, for a more lively atmosphere it is recommended to go for dinner.

    Amuse bouche, very tasty!

    House white wine

    Bisque d'homard

A light red recommended by the Thai female chef.

Sole meuniere, the beurre blanc and the home made bearnaise that came with it were more than excellent.

A glass of the recommended red wine and a glass of Sancerre to go with desert.

A raspberry bavarois on the house.

    Tarte Tatin

The least pleasant bit of the afternoon

My favourite Pizza joint I used to order in from Foodpanda closed but has now re-appeared at Artbox.
I'll miss being able to order in but I'm sure they'll do way better for passing trade here than where they were before.

4 of the new stations are stunning from an architecture point of view, they've actually made the effort to blend them in with the surrounding area as opposed to just plonking a shiny 21st century station in the middle of the neighbourhood.
Good for tourism that Grand Palace and Chinatown are now reachable via MRT/BTS.

I've stayed there many times and have always found it good value for money. Rooms are spacious, beds large and extremely comfortable, bathrooms adequate. Below some pics of the room featuring Ming as a willing participant to brighten it up a little

If I stay in the soi 11 area my preferred hotel nowadays is Fraser Suites. Large modern rooms, decent swimming pool, great rooftop bar (Above 11) for only a little bit more money than the likes of Mercure.

Considering 6 months had passed since our last culinary excursion to Le Normandie, Shyguyuk and I decided last week that it was high time to once again make our way to the Oriental Hotel and indulge in Le Normandie's 8 course Menu Gastronomique accompanied by a Wine Arrangement. I'll let the pics speak for themselves, save to say I needed a nap after this lunch!

For the Ramen lovers amongst you I can wholeheartedly recommend Mensho Tokyo, located on the corner of Sukhumvit road and soi 31. I had the Tori Taipan: a very rich chicken broth, pork chashu, duck chashu, green onion, marinated egg and lemon grass. Outstanding and at 320b not bad value either!

I went to register my Rabbit card with passport at Mo Chit a little while back, at the same time that then allowed me to link my Rabbit Card up to be used with LINE pay.
As a result I no longer have to top up credit on my rabbit card now, it deducts the fare straight out of my bank and I get a message on LINE as soon as I swipe out at the station.
