Levels is very "fancy", they won't let you in looking like a scruff, wear long pants too. An LB took me there a few years before Covid, at that time she told me the bouncers limited LB numbers and her little clique was one of the only groups allowed in. It was 250B a beer back then, dread to think what it is now.... I think they have some kind of promotion on some nights where the girls drink free to try and get more girls in there, not sure if LB's qualify too. If you want a cheap night in there, slap on some lipstick and a nice cocktail dress and try your luck.

For Thai food, I'd recommend Suda.
It's in a little side road opposite Terminal 21, very reasonably priced. Always a bit of a "TripAdvisor darling" type of place. Like most places, they were on their arse during the pandemic but starting to pick up again now. I remember going there to eat in 2020 just after restaurants had been allowed to reopen again and the owner and staff were so happy to see me, like they hadn't seen a customer in a while. Very popular with tourists, but not so much the locals.

Fitzgerald's down near Nana Plaza is good, nice sausages, black pudding and fresh brewed coffee. Plus the bread is toasted doorstops.

I heard good things about the English pub in the Landmark Hotel basement but it's closed for some reason.

If you're staying around Asok area, a few I'd recommend
Red Lion - Soi 13. They do a build your own breakfast option for a cpl of hundred baht, choose 6-7 items
Sportsman - Soi 13. Best Sports bar in BKK imho, they have 2 different Full English options, one of them is pretty big.
Bullys - Between Soi 2-4 on Sukhumvit Rd. Recently reopened in a smaller unit, well kitted out though. Haven't tried breakfast yet but the other food has been decent.
If you go one stop further on the BTS to Phrom Pong, you've got Royal Oak and Robin Hood as well.

I've always gone to Fortune Town. It's opposite Central Rama 9 and can be reached by Rama9 Station on the MRT.

Did they ever replace that dinosaur amusement park thing up the street with anything? It's been closed for a couple of years, but there was no construction activity on the property last time I saw it. That land has got to be worth God knows what.
I actually visited it with an LB once. It did have an old school low tech sort of charm and it was hard not to like it for what it was. That said, I passed on riding the giant ferris wheel because I know it caught on fire at least twice. Thailand conquered the virus but the guarantee of riding a ferris wheel without being incinerated is asking too much, apparently.

The other thing I noted from Sticks column was he talked about Scala Cinema near Siam Square closing,
I was sad to see it go but it was inevitable. I went to see films there a few times, it really had the feel of going to the UK Cinema in the 80s. No computer system for ticketing, they'd just cross off the seats on a sheet of paper. Popcorn for 40B and older style seating. Luckily Bangkok has about 684 soulless multiplexes to choose from instead.

There was a new night market "Rod Fai" style place that opened almost on my doorstep, I think they only had a few days running before the CV lockdown hit.

I hope to road test it if they are allowed to open soon.

There are plenty of areas of Bangkok that are dead to me if there’s no MRT/BTS link but the map has really grown in the last 18 months.
The MRT Blue line is now a full loop, a la the London Circle Line and since they pushed the BTS Green line on past Mo Chit, they've been opening stations every few months. The last stop, Ku Khot, is right near Don Muang....but behind it. I’m sure enterprising taxi drivers and Songtaews will hang out there once it’s open.
I don’t think there will be any kind of direct rail from DM to Swampy until the Chinese bullet train from Laos to Pattaya is running...one of those I’ll believe it when I see it projects.
I think the ARL to Don Muang is due next year but it well terminate from the new all singing and dancing Rail hub at Bang Sue. Although most of the line and stations look ready, the big hub at Bang Due still looks some way off and CV19 probably hasn’t exactly sped up construction.
