They fill a market since many westerns don't wanna waist their time at The Red cross.
And they make good money since they charge high prices for all other than express services. A box of Teno-EM costs me around 1200 at Pulse, or 690 at Chula Basaj. So they make more than 100% pr box sold ( since they buy it for a lot less than 690)
But it is very convenient, and that's what we for.

Take the test, wait 10 min, get the result. The option is only available to "existing PULSE clients". So the first time you need to talk to a consultant for 500 extra.

I was a regular at PULSE Silom, and they charge for everything. Have to talk to a "consultant" to pick up  a box of Teno-EM PrEP. So that would be 500+1200 for one package. Now I just buy them around the corner at the Chula Pharmacy for 660 THB a pack and do Express HIV tests (without consultant) for 500 at PULSE.
For STD test you will have to pay a consultant (500), doctor (900) and the test itself around 4000. So that quickly escalate costs.
To sum up: PULSE is great for HIV/Syf drop in tests and first time consulting when starting PrEP. For everything else I´d go elsewhere. But they are quicker than Red Cross delivering test results from labs.

Chuvit Garden on Sukhumvit Soi 10, close to Check-in Bar, has come to life again. Since 30 May 2019 you can find the Art Box there.
Art Box will be in Chuvit Garden until 30 November 2019.  They’re open every day from 3pm to midnight.
The Art Box is a mix of outdoor night market, live music venue and food and craft beer places.
One can eat and drink there before going to CIB for example...
After the demolition of Washington Square with its makeshift gogo bars and other girlie bars in 2003, Chuvit garden became first a public park but was finally closed a couple of years ago. The former owner wanted to build a ****hotel there but then dropped those plans...

     Thanks :-)

lb_beginner reacted to Ropey in Thai Style Nightlife Areas in Bangkok: Cocowalk, Udom Suk and Srinakarin
I've been to Talad Rod Fai a few times, it's a good night out if you like memorabilia and antique sort of things. It's a mix of locals and tourists, the ladyboys I've seen have been with bfs walking around or working in the stalls. The bars are tiny and not really a place to go for.
I've been to rock bar a few times in coco walk, I've not seen any ladyboys in the area. The problem you'll have here and many Thai orientated places is that they go out in big groups and don't really mingle with others outside their groups. Western style bars are popular for P4P and singles looking for farang because they allow random people to meet, Thai bars are more for groups of friends to drink/sing together, there is very little interaction outside their immediate group.
I haven't been to Udom Suk nightclubs but there's plenty of these sorts of locations dotted around Bangkok, for some reason they tend to have the best food too. They're all girls as far as I'm aware, you'd need to go to a gay area to find ladyboys for local guys.
Places imo you would be more successful :

RCA - loads of ladyboys go here for fun but it's hard to break them away from their groups they go in. Bring a card with your line ID on it to slip to them.
Ratchada Rot Fai Market - just up Rama IX is the newer version of the old Rot Fai market, bigger bars and apparently there are ladyboys there according to another BM in a thread from a year or more ago.
Thonglor - there are plenty of Thai nightclubs here, I've seen ladyboys in groups when I've been out and about too. But again, breaking them from the group will be challenging.
Saphan Kwai - near saphan Kwai bts is a straight and gay gogo bar area aimed at Thais. Bound to be ladyboys there, but not sure where exactly. The straight area is on Suttisan Winitchai Rd around soi Inthamara 2. The gay gogos are opposite side of Phahonayothin Rd down Soi Pradiphat 20 - near Embassy Hotel.
As a tourist, you will have limited success with any non P4P ladyboys, as they generally are more interested in building a relationship (whatever that relationship may be) than a one night stand with a tourist who may never be back. So I agree with Flip-flops comment above, if you're going to go to the effort to meet them in these places make sure you let them know you're not just a 'one hit wonder'.

Chula Besaj is the major drug supplier for any surrounding clinic and hospital (Bangkok Christian, BNH Hospital just to name a few). It's not a common pharmacy, they are gross dealers though they sell to individuals as well. It's not uncommon to go there and wait over an hour because of guys getting orders of, say, 20 kilos medicine packs.

I pay close to 1200 for Teno-Em at Silom Clinic, so 660 is almost half the price. But at least I will be sure it is genuine pills. I rather pay a little extra for my own piece of mind given what we protect us from.

55555 yeah that was actually my plan to find a gg with no english skill at all. But too much trouble. Signed up for ThaiPop101 now, quite extensive online video based learning system. $1 first 30 days, then $25 (800THB) each month.

You mean something innovative, that caters for the needs of the students and not just the govt set curriculum?
It's called a Thai gf, a bit more expensive than the standard course but could be good for 3-6 months of study, then switch it for a new one to validate what you've learned from the first one.

If you must do it in BKK, better off learning something Thais excel at: Cooking Thai Food, Muay Thai, Massage or Thai language courses.

Japanese is always a hit with thais, Youngone has recommended two good restaurants in this thread here (Zuma and Tsu Nami) :
But you can go cheaper also, many of the malls are swarming with Japanese restaurants, places like Central Embassy and Emporium have plenty of mid to high end.
Following that, you could head to Gold Class Cinema at Embassy, I often see guys take dates there (even LB's).
Or if you prefer to drink, Maggie Choos in Silom (below Novotel) is a LB friendly speakeasy style bar and is themed as a British East India Company bank vault, they frequently have live jazz and blues/soul bands/singers.
Or for something more elevated, cocktails at Moon Bar in Banyan Tree Hotel, probably the best night view of the cityscape, she will love taking selfies up there. Pretty busy spot usually though.
If you'd rather spend less, but show you know some trendy hidden gems, try Tep Bar in Chinatown:
    https://maps.app.goo.gl/jUnCq
If an activity is preferred, then get on a river cruise, book online, some have bars.
Or head to a night Market, for a date the flower market used to be best but that's a shadow of its former self now, so another good market is up near Bang Na, its an antiques/memorabilia market called Rod Fai Night Market
https://maps.app.goo.gl/KhfF3 this place has loads of interesting things to browse, maybe buy.
Alternatively, for somewhere close, Neon Markets (Talad Neon) on Petchaburi Rd is good for selfies (because thais love selfies).
    Chock dee!

When it comes to restaurants Bangkok wins it from Pattaya by a country mile in my opinion. Pattaya for me is a bit of a culinary desert whilst the possibilities in Bangkok are endless, from simple inexpensive food to Michelin starred restaurants. Recommending restaurants is always a bit tricky though as different people value different things, but I'll take a stab at it...

Since we're in Thailand I'll start with a Thai restaurant. Osha on Wireless Road offers terrific Thai dishes in a very pleasant setting and is surprisingly affordable.  Great place to take a date with a  good value for money factor.
    http://www.oshabangkok.com/osharestaurant/

Masu Maki on Sukhumvit soi 39 is a very simple little restaurant that serves high quality sushi for very reasonable prices. Perfect for a quick lunch or simple dinner, not so perfect to bring a date though. You'll struggle to spend more than 1000b here which for Sushi is a great deal.

I work in this industry. And technically he is not wrong. By contract if the hotel allows online travel agents (agoda, expedia, booking.com, etc) to sell their rooms, neither party is allowed to reduce the stated price but they are allowed to offer extras such as free wifi, free executive lounge, free upgrade, etc. The way agoda and booking.com attract their customers is by loyalty discounts. If you are a member of either of these online travel agents and use them to book frequently, they will occasionally throw in some sort of discount. This is not breaking the contract at all because the base price of the room is the same, but because your account has been credited some sort of discount, allowing the price to be cheaper than the website.

When I book hotels, I very rarely use online travel agents and only use booking.com for price and location references. What I usually do is to email the hotel or give them a call, let them know my travel details and tell them that I will book directly with them if they give me a discount. This works occasionally because the hotel knows that if I book through an online travel agent that the hotel will have to pay 5% to 15% commision to the online travel agent depending on their agreed contract. By asking the hotel to give me a 10% discount or something of the sort, the hotel still makes more money. Ask them to throw in some more benefits like airport transfer, executive lounge, etc, and this is the reason why I always book with the hotel website.

I'm pretty sure as a multiple hundred time user of Don Muang airport that this only affects people using the free road. The expressway above it has its own ramp that comes out by the cargo terminal as indicated in the article. If anyone knows anymore feel free to correct my understanding, but if using the toll way, it appears nothing much if anything will change.

So, lets try to give my first review

Located at the head Sukhumvit Soi 10, next to Chuwit Park and TheLollipop1.
A nice and clean hotel, with a small, friendly staff.

Some people found the standard rooms a little small, so I took the Deluxe room.
Control panel next to your bed for light, airco, time etc. Very handy.
Rooms are clean, a big bathroom comparing to the bedroom.
Bath/shower and toilet are diveded by a glass door, so you don't have to wear your boots when you come out of the shower.

    Front

    Room

    Bathroom

Breakfast is very limited (3 choiches), you have to buy that seperate when you're checking in.

Guestfriendly: didn't take anybody up there, but I think so.

Rooms and prices (according to their site)
    Standard - 1500 Bht
    Superior - 1700 Bht
    Deluxe - 1900 Bht

lb_beginner got a reaction from crillwill in hotel private access/ discreet entrance
I´ve stayed a lot at LeFenix Soi 11 over the years. Recently moved because of the take over with indian groups, but it´s great and cheap for discreet entrance if u order from CL, TF or lb´s you know. The reception will (sometimes) take the ID and call. Recently there was no need for keycards so a lot of my girls just came right up. Personally, I do like some security. Then again, Hilton Sukhumvit don´t take the girls ID but make u come down and get the girls at the lobby.
Also stayed at Hyatt, there are a night club at the basement entrance so not so discreet. And if u stay at Club room level they have to walk past the counter there.

lb_beginner you really hit the nail on the head there with that second line, im quite fed up with the lower suhkumvit area, its a magnificent stew of arabs and indians, i tend to keep to myself while i suffer through a few nights in bangkok, it suits me just fine to call a few girls and keep a low profile. on my last trip i booked a hotel a ways from the action. on suhkumvit but about 5 stops on the rail from nana, id just call a girl at meet them at the 711 downstairs then wed take the elevator up to my room, fast painless no hassle, incognito. its a beautiful thing
