This is one good way to see a side of Thailand many tourists miss. The food is much better when you get off the beaten farang path. Food is a very social event for Thais. After living here 3 years I have a hard time eating farang food. I feel stuffed and bloated when I eat farang food... so they will too. It also makes them feel good to know you have an interest in Thai culture. And ask her about Thailand (if she is Thai) and Thai food.

The smart move is to let the LB choose a place. Chances are you will end up at a modest Thai restaurant with communal dining tables, often outdoors. It will only cost you a few hundred baht.  Don't try to take them to some dressy farang-oriented Thai restaurant.  The atmosphere will be uncomfortable for them and they often won't care for the taste of the food. The food is apparently too salty for their taste in the fancy places.
Afterward for desert,  take them out for ice cream. They all love ice cream, and going to Swensens or wherever is always a big hit with them.

Stayed at The Rembrandt Suites which is connected to the hotel by the underground car park
The large living room consists of TV, music center, work table for laptop, dinning table with four chairs and a kitchen with oven, microwave, kettle and a large fridge,  the bedroom was large enough as was the bathroom. A fresh bowl of fruit each day and a daily paper in English. The room was on the 12th floor and there was a large swimming pool on the 11th which we could see from our windows.

Tv in the bedroom as well as the living room

It's tight in EC. Maybe worth it to look at premium economy or the same in Eva Air.

If the question is about what seats are available for selection, on Cathay's website you can run a dummy booking and choose seats on the next screen after putting in a bogus name and contact info of passenger.
Like Dav says, you may want to look at premium economy. I flew their premium economy a couple of years ago Tokyo-Hong Kong. The seats are fairly similar to what is found on their regional business class.  Premium economy 1st pic, business class 2nd pic.

While Cathay is my favourite overall airline, it has to be said it is not because of the legroom in economy. Its terrible. Seat comfortable but space is poor. Great if your small but not ideal for western frame.  No idea though about Asiana as comparison as never flown them.

Cathay scores highly for me in air crew, cabin crew, aircraft, premium classes. Economy doesn't make the grade.

I think you can find mini-vans running out of Ekkamai as well. I much prefer buses to mini-vans.

BTW... is the ladyboy taxi driver in Patts still operating? I forget her name.

For anyone contemplating Red Planet my impression is that it is not overly guest friendly ... I didn't see a single instance of a working girl being brought in to the hotel.

On top of that their internet blocks all sorts of sites (including this forum) as being porn, which is why my trip report is a few days late.

The location in Soi 14 is great though as it is almost exactly half way between CIRB and Why Not. Directly opposite Asoke station but far enough away from the main road that it is super quiet ... even the construction near by could not be heard once in the room.

There is no restaurant in the hotel though so you have to venture outside for breakfast every day ... unfortunately not knowing BKK very well I ended up at Starbucks most mornings.

Not having access to this forum was a pain though so will probably not stay there again.

Just get a cheapo room at Heaven @ 4 or some such place that charges 700 - 1000 baht per night. There are many such hotels around lower Sukhumvit. There is also a modestly priced hotel across the alley from CIB on Soi 10, some BMs stay there on occasion.

I'd forgotten that I had posted this. I went to Sharzad and the food was good. The dishes seemed to more than I care to eat so I cobbled some stuff together with advice from one of the guys. The food is good. The falafel was good but not at all what I expected. Small donut shapes instead of round golfball size pieces. My Syrian neighbor made falafel in hamburger sized patties. All of the food was good.

yes but if you are someone who does not like smoke most rooms reak of it and for ST not so bad, but day to day up2u.

also, the LT rooms are upstairs on the second floor and they do not have the chair if that was your motivation. unless you have spent a lot of time incarcerated or working on a fishing boat, the size and condition of the ST chair rooms could make you a bit stir crazy. NO WINDOWS,.

there are LT rooms in the very back hall 2nd floor that are huge and have a couch and larger fridge, but i have only been able to get one of those twice in 15 years of going there. they also lack decor and the kind of comfort yo might want for LT stays.

another factor is the lack of good wifi, limited menu, and shit TV.

i have had a lot of LBs who will not get in the chair, so if you are a TOP or looking to do that often, the chair may not offer you what you seek.

but for a ST session in a seedy hotel with all that brings to a session. PB cant be beat.

one last thing to noite. the hotel building is U shaped. the wing on the Soi 3 side is run by one company, and the wing on the soi 11 side by another, who also runs the upstairs, the 3rd floor is unoccupied and closed off.

also, the soi 3 side DOES NOT HAVE THE CHAIRS.

the people who work the soi 3 side are asshats and MFs IMO. they also give you a lot of shit about having more than 1 girl which is just a ploy to jack you up for a tip, yet they wont even give you another towel for that.

the soi 11 side they are all OK and polite and they have never given me shit about extra girls. if i want an extra towel for a 3rd or 4th joiner i simply hand the room boy 100 baht while asking for that. never had them say no.

there are so many good cheap hotels in BKK that to go to PB for LT IMO would be a waste of your time and money, again, unless it's all about the chair for you.

for me it's the convenience, price and the seediness .......... further, i tend to call girls mid-day or late afternoon and have them meet me there before they go to work, and they all know where it is and never get lost.
