I use that only if line at arrival is unbearable. Have to say that with the new system it is rather pretty quick.

One guy, with a cowboy hat, on a wheelchair is always on the smoking terrace surrounded by a few aged WG.
Others do chat about their times (and I do mean decades ago if you listen to them) in the confortable soft armchairs and sofa of the lobby.

some hotels might reply in a vague way " no problem If you booked the room for two guests".A nice way to say yes.
They can't openly write "we are ok if you use your room also as a ST room"
Some hotels have a policy that the 2nd girl, if you bring two back, might mean a "joiner fee".
At least that is what you are told officially at check in.

I doubt you can avoid having the stamp in your passport but do let us know how you get on. It would be a godsend to me, as I keep needing to replace my passport after about 4 years due to all those pesky stamps.

From what I read anyone who enters Thailand and uses their own sim card (roaming) will not be tracked in this manner. The little blurb I read was the foreigner SIM card has an on/off switch for tracking the SIM location. This cannot be turned off on these SIMs. However, it is not hard to get the data of what cell towers your phone was logged into and when. Every time you move your phone into a new cell tower it is recorded.
 
IP phone calls such as Skype etc are easily tracked. The only service I know with full encryption from end to end is Whatsapp. While I know text messages are encrypted I'm not sure vioce calls are but probably so as Whatsapp advertises encryption.
 
My bigger worry in all of this is the Thai gov't thinking on bypassing https encryption. I'd have to reconsider living here as online banking etc is based on https security.
 
The western countries are already doing this... they just don't tell you.

I assumed they (the police) could track anyone already via their mobile number. Can't see AIS etc turning them down when they want to know the whereabouts of whomever.

Always a good idea . After all you have booked for two people per day . Grand Swiss asked me when the other guest would be arriving , my answer with a smile " every night " .

Pissing contests get old after awhile, just like piss. At first it's frothy and entertaining. Later it's just sticky and awful.

I really like this hotel .
Was my first in Bangkok but I must admit the most cleanest hotel I've ever stay in Thailand .
 
Check in was tiny bit slow filling paperwork but I did get some free welcome drink not sure if there was any booze in it . I booked iconic room with agoda
 
The room was bit small to what I'm used too but the bed was fine and the shower was clean . On the 6th floor can be a bit slippery during the day as you have to walk outside to connect to the rooms .
 
Breakfast was alright as being jet lagged I was still waking up way too early so by 7am I had pretty much to buffet to myself . I did find going later the food was bit more stale so I was more into going early then trying to get some more sleep after breakfast . They would change up the set up every two days and I did not ask if they had a egg station as basicly i just had scrambled eggs nest to the chicken/american sausages .
 
The pool was ok but just my luck quite a few americans staying there so I had no sunbed for most part of the days . Great view and with the iconic you get free tapas ( chips) with a choice of 3 cocktails my advice would be go for purple margita as it was spot on . you can also exchange it for soft drinks and its only available from 4pm to 8pm .

I got 2 bts day pass which they explains to me how to you which was easy . The golf cart would only take you to the end of the road . Easy 5 min walk to nana if you cut through anna massage roja hotel car park .
 
Ladyboys was fine checking in and they would ring your room when they was checking out .
 
I really did not enjoy the taxis drivers around the area but I suppose it's a thing you get used too in Bangkok
 
On the plus side at night you can see your darling having a shower with the lights settings but this can lead to them seeing you take a shit during the night
