Hopeland Hotel Soi 8 Review

Background - Solo traveller, this trip was my 8th to Thailand, I normally spend most of my time in pattaya, but always like a couple of nights in bkk before flying home. Previously stayed in Fraser suites, Soi 11. Citrus suites Sukhumvit 6. Aspira Soi 7. Usually spend my time on Soi 11 or nana, not much of a Soi cowboy fan or patpong. CIB gets a visit from me every time I'm in bkk.

Location - I'd give the location an okay rating, it's walkable to all the local haunts, but perhaps a little bit far for stumbling home drunk from CIB. The street the hotel on doesn't have much happening on it which is good cause it's quiet, and your not far from the main action. there is a new massage joint on the street as your walking up to Sukhumvit that looks like it mainly caters to Japanese / Korean customers.

Checkin - Early checkin not possible, but they arranged a late checkout the next day for couple of hundred baht. 2 on reception anytime I came and went. both seemed pretty disinterested in any customers and seemed to spend most of their time on phones

Room - See attached video. Room felt a bit stuffy when entering, but a soon cleared up with the aircon on for a bit. Aircon was powerful and quiet. Furniture is decent, but everything is definitely getting a little worn, couch wasn't the comfiest, but the bed was medium firm and gave a decent nights sleep. bed linen was clean but only of average quality, prefer something a bit nicer tbh. Decor was nice and modern-ish. Kitchen had decent set of utensils, appliances etc. big fridge and plenty of storage, this place would be good for an extended stay I think.

Bathroom - big and clean. shower ran nice and hot when needed with good power. only problem was the door never really sealed properly so the bathroom always ended up really wet after a shower, which is a problem if your showering multiple times a day like me. Also, the free toiletries are tiny and shit. I normally buy my own from 7/11 for holidays, but on my last night before flying home I thought I could just wing it with hotel supplied stuff. Bad choice.

Internet - truly terrible, couldn't even access basic email and website without getting logged off and have to login to the internet again. in the end just went with tethering to my mobile for much better experience.

Breakfast - didn't partake, but they do have a free bean to cup expresso machine in the lobby with takeaway cups which is a really useful perk I've not seen anywhere else.

Facilities - pool on the rooftop, can't really say much about this as I didn't spend any time up there

Guest Friendly - 100%, girls at CIB seemed to know the hotel well :)

Noise - this is definitely this hotels plus point, quietest hotel I've stayed at in bkk, no bar / club noise at all. not even traffic noise which plagued me when I spend time at citrus of Frasers. This would probably get me to stay here again.

Price - 62 GBP, probably a little pricey as it's not really suites size of room, but was a late booking in the middle of high season (DEC)

Overall - quietness of the room for a location so close to the action was a real plus for me, probably would not stay again, as there are so many other quality hotels to try. the search for the perfect hotel room continues...

Good review @karmazov! I have stayed at Hopeland in Aug en Dec 2023, thought I wrote a review myself, but can't find it anymore. So I'll add some comments here:

Location: Awesome! Located in the middle of the golden triangle, on easy walking distance to Why Not, Cindy's and Check In bar. They have a golf cart which brings you to the beginning of Soi 8 upon request (although it was out of order when I stayed there, due to a flat tyre ).

Room - Both my rooms had a small balcony, which is a 'pro' for a smoker. One room was quite big, the other was simply huge. Both had a fridge, kitchenette.

Bathroom - Fully agree with OP here. Bathroom is fine, but I took care of my own supplies.

Internet - I cannot recall it was that bad! But had to go fetch new passwords at the reception a few times.

Breakfast - The coffee machine in the lobby is a nice touch (Citadines in Soi 8 has it too). The breakfast is very basic. Didn't include it anymore for my second visit.

Facilities - The pool on the rooftop is quite okay. Big enough and there's a hottub as well (which was broken during my first visit).

Guest Friendly - Indeed 100%! Quite sure I have been one of the reasons many girls at CIB (and WN and CS) know the place pretty well. Did a handful of threesomes there too, and bringing multiple ladyboys also no problem at all. :D\

Noise - Indeed, perfectly quiet!

Price - Their current price has increased a lot over last year. Where the OP paid 62 GBP (approx. 74 Euro), I paid a year ago around 55 Euro a night! Basically this increased price (knowing the rooms / service would still be the same), made me decide to change to another hotel. I would repeat if they return to their previous rate, but agree with @karmazov that for 74 Euro better places can be found! :)

Agree on all of the above, what I didn't like so much was the reception area, it seemed that at any point of

day or night there was people sleeping on the couches and generally milling around. The reception staff were

very casual and the whole place gave off a vibe that it was more a long term crash pad place rather than a Hotel.

Quite far down the Soi especially for wet season but rooms were an excellent size.

that pool looks very dangerous, if you swim too far you will fall down on the street. it also must use a lot of water

Soi 8, especially further down, is the quietest place to stay in the heart of the action zone. I stayed at Citadines last trip which is getting a little tired, but has a spacious, very good layout with a couch and kitchenette.  Also less than half what you paid in low season for this hotel. I was able to whisk my girls up to my loom without too much fuss from reception which was often busy (too many South Asians were staying there for my liking, leaving their rooms open whilst blasting their tvs. Very inconsiderate people. Is there a list of hotels where these folk (and Arabs) don’t stay?), especially Ploy who was just too drunk one night. Never take a drunk girl out of CIB, gentlemen. If Soi 8 is too far to stagger home to from CIB, just get a tuk tuk from Sukhumvit for 100 baht …

Hi all, new to the forum and I've been following this Hopeland thread with interest.

I'm heading back to BKK (much) later this year after a gap of about 20yrs and the landscape has changed a bit!

Plans are a bit fluid but its likely that I'll spend 4 or 5 nights in Bangkok and then about 10 nights in Patts.

I could hold a Deluxe Double Room at Hopeland at approx 2150 THB per night with Agoda and its free cancellation until about 1 week before check-in.  So I've jumped on that and will look at other options if and when.  Meantime, Hopeland ticks boxes - decidedly lb friendly, decent size rooms, a balcony you can sit on, roof pool (albeit small), quieter location and a gentle stroll to the action.  Reviews are a bit mixed but generally pretty good.  Is there anywhere else in that part of town - for approx same rates - that I should look at?

Cheers, Tinpan

Welcome to the forum.

I stayed at Hopeland for 3 nights during my last Bangkok trip a few weeks ago in January as well as staying at Citrus Suites, Park Royal Suites and Lohas Suites.

Some of the issues with Hopeland were detailed by other guys in this thread. A few too many folks hanging around in the lobby all the time, some of them snoozing away on the sofas. My room was large and I had no complaints except for the bullshit dim lighting in the bathroom. It was so bad, they may as well have had candles in there.

I never tried their restaurant. No worries because a few paces away is the very solid  Det 5 bar/restaurant which is open all day and serves from a big menu with modest prices. You can't go wrong with that place.

It is a bit of a hike down Soi 8, but they have a golf cart to transport guests to Sukhumvit.  If you don't want to walk down Soi 8 to the hotel, you can take a moto taxi from Suk for 20 baht. During the day when the sun is beating down, that's money well spent.

Of the 4 hotels I stayed at, I would say Park Royal Suites and Lohas Suites both offer more bang for the buck that Hopeland. I think Citus Suites is overpriced for what they provide, but it's popular with many BMs.

In this price range, the best of all the suite hotels for mongering purposes is Adelphi Suites on Soi 8.  Yes, they can be pricier compared to the other places, but if you can stomach spending the extra cash, it's definitely the best place to stay due to its location with equal proximity to all the lounge bars. None of them are a more than a 5 -10 minute walk from Adelphi.

Thanks for this oliver - very helpful. Back in the day I liked the Soi 8 feel so I quite fancy a stay on there.  Will check all of the above again, Adelphi does look good...
