hughjass85 128 #1 Posted April 15, 2014 A few apps for the guys on the ground to try out. They all work the same. Basically you book the taxi via the app and wait for a driver to accept your booking. Once accepted both parties can see each others location on their phones so you know exactly how far off the taxi is to picking you up. You don't need to pay the driver with cash as your credit card is saved in the app. Uber : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ubercab https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/uber/id368677368?mt=8 Grabtaxi: http://grabtaxi.com/bangkok-thailand/ Easytaxi : http://www.easytaxi.com/
jimmi_ripper 48 #2 Posted April 15, 2014 I've used these in Malaysia and it works well, the difference being that the drivers speak English ok. problem is in BKK, the taxi drivers can't confirm the bookings more often than not as they don't feel comfortable attemping English on the phone, also the times I have used them to book in advance, the drivers have also cancelled at the last minute. There are never a shortage of drivers on the streets anyway at most times of the day and night. If I were to look for positives, possibly a good use would be in places like Soi 11, where the taxi mafia stand around looking for fixed price work. Even passing drivers will try the same and you want to book an airport run. 1 hughjass85 reacted to this
hughjass85 128 #3 Posted April 16, 2014 Thanks for the info Jimmi. Which ones did you use? Apparently easy taxi always calls but the others don't always call. Personally I would prefer not to receive a call. What is the need for a call when you can see exactly what is happening on your screen?
hughjass85 128 #4 Posted April 16, 2014 I probably should have posted this topic in Transport and travel 1 OneTrueSaxon reacted to this
KLW 63 #5 Posted May 12, 2014 Personally never had the need for an App to get a taxi, it would take me longer to whip out my phone and type in the information than it would to walk to the end of the Soi and grab a passing cab. The only time I pre-book a taxi is for Airport but I avail myself to the services of the hotel next door, this reminds me need one for Sunday AM back to Hanoi again to make some sanuk tokens. dray 5 #6 Posted June 1, 2014 Will try out these. Often have problems getting a metered cab when I have my suitcase. I guess they just assume its full of cash
hughjass85 128 #7 Posted June 1, 2014 Would love to know how you get on Dre. It should solve many of the problems I have read about on the forums; IE. Drivers not knowing where to go...drivers over charging or not putting the meter on. I watched a youtube video of a guy hailing maybe 10 taxis and none would put the meter on. I CBF with stuff like that. Anyway, this is all in theory. Let us know how you get on Pal

hughjass85 128 #11 Posted October 8, 2016 Old thread but wondering how many are using "grab taxi " in Bkk now ?? I always use it when I am there. I get the private cars(Grab Car)...not the normal taxis. Always nice unmarked cars with leather seats and drivers who speak fluent English. 1 Boomerang reacted to this

hughjass85 128 #13 Posted October 10, 2016 Yes but still cheap and worth it. Even if I am out on the turps on Sukhumvit with normal taxis everywhere I still order a grabcar so I can go back home in comfort.
monsieur 44 #14 Posted October 10, 2016 I've also used grab taxi several times while in bkk and was quite happy about it.
Thanks 3,091 #15 Posted December 9, 2019 The easytaxi.com site doesn't seem to work anymore and Uber has become Grab last year... I've tried to download the allthaitaxi app but no such luck either (they only have an iOS app that works apparently but not an Android app...). http://www.allthaitaxi.com/website/en/home Has anyone knowledge of a good Grab app alternative for Bangkok? Are BTS and MRT apps useful for visitors? Is it possible to buy tickets online with them?
lb_beginner 742 #16 Posted December 9, 2019 4 hours ago, Thanks said: The easytaxi.com site doesn't seem to work anymore and Uber has become Grab last year... Are BTS and MRT apps useful for visitors? Is it possible to buy tickets online with them? I've tried some of the Thai apps recommended by locals. Too many bugs. Grab is the only one that is stable. BTS App is improving but still a long way to go. As long as Line Pay and Rabbit have a connection it will probably be a long time before they bother to make an online system for tourists. Download a BTS/MRT map instead and use a Rabbit card. There is no way I am trusting Line with my credit card info. Supposedly one can now top up the Rabbit card on the machines at the stations as well. 2 Thanks and Ropey reacted to this
