If you are traveling from the US, you should buy and upgrade. It's a no-brainer since any flight from the US to BKK is going to mean about 20 hours in the air. Do you really want to be crammed into economy all that time even if you are flying for only $25.00?

I flew Qatar business class to BKK on last trip in May. Very impressive inflight service and also loved the business lounge in Doha. Too bad they don't offer A380 planes from the US like Emirates does, but Qatar does offer A380s on Doha-Bkk route. BTW, the bars on the Emirates A380s are way more fun than the bars on Qatar's aircraft.

I'm with you. If & when I move to BKK I'll be looking for something more reasonable, but I assume your like me and you want not only comfort, but location. Phachara a great choice & 50,000 a month seems right to me.

Can't beat a bit of comfort. One of the reasons I have stayed at @Mind in Sukhumvit soi 85 in their one bedroom suites. Unfortunately they have been fully booked in the one bedroom suites the last two trips. So I stayed at the new Citrus in soi 11 the second time in a biger room. But still missed the comfort of the one bedroom suite.

Here is my post on the hotel that I did when staying there

@Mind Executive Suites Sukhumvit Soi 85

I have already posted the pictures above a couple of posts earlier the day I arrived. I had meant to do a report on the hotel there and then but with one thing another (drink & LBS mostly) I could not get it done.

Here is a brief outline. After arriving at 9.30 at the airport and I had not made an early room booking. I decided to take the airport link train and change at Phaya Thai BTS to the hotel in On Nut soi 85 It takes about 5 to 8 minutes walk from On Nut BTS to the hotel that is just inside soi 85

To my surprise I could check in to my 1 bed room suite straight away. First thing I noticed was how new things were and how clean it was. The rooms are of good design with a dining table for two at the far end of the room from the balcony Sofa (can be made in to a spare bed) and table with a flat screen tv & dvd player. Kitchen as everything you need including coffee, tea sugar and a kettle. Plus a microwave too. Its as a large refrigerator not a mini bar

There is a balcony with a sink to wash shorts etc after swimming or you can use the balcony to smoke if that's your thing.

Wifi was excellent in both bedroom and lounge room

"two flat screen tv's in one in bedroom and one in Lounge room. The same with Air con which was nice as you could leave lounge on low for breakfast in the morning. Rather than have to wait 10 - 15 minutes for it to cool. I was given two key cards and kept one in the key slot to keep the rooms at a low cool temp.

Bathroom as shower with a rain shower above.

LB friendly as I brought two back on my first night and one back each night after that for the five nights I stayed there.

Location. Well it's pretty far from Nana to walk but 15 mins BTS 37 baht and 70 to 80 baht coming back in a taxi

Great choice. Phachara has a good kitchen & washer/dryer. I just booked there for my stay in April. A little more advice, some of the balconies in Phachara have air conditioning condenser units on them & they are loud & blow out hot air, making the balcony all but useless. Make sure you request a unit with a clear balcony. Also, I wouldn't pay any extra for the breakfast as it's shit. Enjoy your stay!

Last year I stayed 1 month at My View Apartment, at the end of Soi 4. It's exactly 1 km from Sukhumvit. If you mind walking there is a motorbyke station 100 meters from the condo. The condo is small, only 6 apartments for renting, well mantained, with a small garden and a pool, very quiet and clean. Guest friendly of course. The owners are Thais, the whole family speaks good english, they live there themselves and they do all they can to help. Wi fi is free and at good speed. There is a cleaning service twice a week and you can ask for more towels or everything you should need. There is a living room with kitchen, 1 bedroom, a bathroom with shower and a balcony. 2 air cons, safe, fridge and microwave. With rent, electricity and several laundry services, I paid around 30.000 Bath.

airbnb is the first place i'd look. you can also check out craigslist and this FB group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1448963955379462/. You should be able to find a sublet easily for 14,000 to 20,000 baht on a BTS or MRT line. The On Nut area is a good place to look.

If you want to stay close to the action you should also check out hotels like Aspen Suites or Shama, both on Soi 2, and Phachara Suites on Soi 6. All three are "serviced apartments" & have all the amenities you would need (full size fridge, stove, pots & pans, flatware, utensils, washer/dryer, etc...), and all offer a monthly rate. You should contact the hotels directly via email or phone (found on their website) to get the best rate.

This hotel was still LB friendly when I stayed there two weeks ago.

Small room and some disturbing noise from outside but I think it's hard to find much better at 1120 per night (made the reservation on agoda at the end of March).

HilbertSpace reacted to Siam Man in SM Grande Residence (updated 2015)
I just spent a week at the SM Grande Residence. Was quite a good price on Agoda. I checked the same dates on their website and that info came back as the dates weren't available.

The room was quite spacious. I think it was 34 sq meters. Small safe, average bathroom that was a bit dated. Nice big bed. Maid service adapted to my sleeping hours and came around 4:30 each day. It had a balcony, but only window access.

The desk people were pretty ordinary. The night I checked in there was no one even at the desk. I got the security guard to find her. He pointed that she was in the toilet. So I waited and then she showed up from somewhere else not the toilets? They were absent a couple of other times when I wanted to drop off my key before going out..

I called them before booking to make sure they were guest friendly. They didn't have a clue what I was talking about so it was a wasted long distance phone call. The best I got from them was to call back in three hours. So I took a little gamble and booked it anyway as the price was quite good at $45 AUD a night. I wrote on comments that I would be bringing guests home each night and let me know if that was a problem. They never responded.

Turned out it was indeed guest friendly. They have a gate out front with a security guard who collects and gives back their ID's. However they didn't call up to the room when they left alone, so I suppose one could leave you for dead if they wanted. Lot's of people actually live there so I could see where bringing in P4P gurls could be frowned upon, but it's Soi 4 location means they need to to compete with other hotels in the area that are also Guest friendly. It's not to far down Soi 4 and before the Ibis. Easy walks to Nana and Rajah hotel complex. You can also take their tuk tuk to Sukhumvit and Soi 4 intersection or to the Nana BTS station. The tuk tuk service doesn't run very late. I think stops at 6 or 7.

They have a pool on the 3rd floor which was pretty decent size. You have to use your room towels but you can exchange them for fresh ones after. They also have a fitness center which I didn't check out. A BKK Post is free for guests on the lobby counter.

HilbertSpace reacted to Siam Man in Swan Inn, Soi 4
I've stayed at Swan Inn on Soi 4 on two different occasions. It's a very cheap option located just past Rajah Hotel Complex on the opposite side of Soi 4. I had stayed in Swan Inn 2 which is further down Soi 4 and a little nicer and bigger rooms. The first time I stayed there I used it as a day room since I had a midnight flight. My hotel on soi 2 couldn't give me a late check out because they were booked full that next day.

I don't think they take reservations and aren't listed on booking sites like Agoda. You basically walk up and see if they have a room around noon. The cost is 700 baht. I think they have 14 rooms total all on the second floor. The internet signal is poor unless you are close to the front. My second day I couldn't get signal in the room. big fridge, 2 free bottles of water, warm water in shower. It would make a a good ST room if you were looking to do multiples near Nana. No safe for valuables. The outlets are antiquated, but I was lucky to have an adapter that worked.

The second time I used it when I ended up changing my flight and staying two extra days. My hotel (Aspen Suites) didn't have any rooms on those dates as they were booked full for the Chinese new year. I thought that may be the story at most places on short notice so I went to this place and paid 2100 baht for 3 nights. Nothing fancy, but okay in a pinch.

It is a very basic hotel . It is directly above CIB bar . They use it for short time rooms . Really isn't anything to photograph . A small room with a bed with a very basic shower toilet . ( sorry don't have photos )
