• Jeez, there's too many favourites to mention without rambling on as usual but I'll try and fail  to keep it brief (ish). Keeping it to 3 isn't easy but I'll try not to cheat. Here goes, wish me luck. We're heading back over to Thailand soon so the Mrs and I are often talking about where we want to eat (well she is more than me TBH but she's Thai and they think about food all the time). As a result if I was writing this in an hour my 3 answers might be totally different. Anyway, recently I've been thinking about 2 types of food most of all which I eat a lot of in Bangkok. That's Burmese and Southern Thai (my favourite type of Thai food by far, spicy as fuck though so not for everyone). For Burmese there's lots of restaurants and different types of Burmese food (more diverse than Thai probably) but I'll suggest Shwe The on Soi 21 for convenience. This restaurant serves food from Shan State in Myanmar. I'd recommend the Shan noodles and Nan gyai tote (salad mixed with chicken curry and noodles, trust me it works). Their salads are all good but I always have the tea leaf salad (please trust me again on that). My favourite Burmese places (including a street of Burmese bars - it's great drinking food) are in Pratunam on Soi  Phetchaburi 15 but there are plenty of good Burmese places in Sukhumvit so no need to travel unless you're really keen. 2 of my favourites in that area are Feel Myanmar and Mandalay Burmese, they're both excellent. https://maps.app.goo.gl/YQGWS9HwYJiVvmFo7   For Southern Thai the options are a bit thinner on the ground. My favourite places are just behind Nang Loeng Market on the Thonburi side of the river and in Chatuchak (the excellent Beer Hima seafood) but I'll choose something more easily accessible and say KhuaKling Pak Sod in Thonglor (Soi 55 Sukhumvit). It's a good restaurant and very popular, there's a couple of other branches across the city, all good too. The food here is very spicy but that is Southern Thai food for you. The dishes I always order are the goong pad sartor (prawns with stink beans and shrimp paste, my preference is without the minced pork just to keep it lighter) and Gaeng Som (sour orange curry with fish or prawns and acacia omelette pieces), both are fucking delicious and the pad sartor is almost an addiction for me, it's very difficult not to order whenever it's on any menu. The best things on the menu might well not be these items though, their whole fish (pomfret) with chillies is fantastic and the Mrs swears the best dish is the one the restaurant is named after, no surprise there. Their KhuaKling dry pork curry is famous, she has that while I gorge on the seafood and it's one of those rare meals where we both don't even offer to share . Great stuff and while not my favourite Southern Thai place it's highly recommended. https://maps.app.goo.gl/7qwaEHJ7LuHgAVrn9   My third choice isn't Thai or even Asian it's a Spanish place called Laferia on Sukhumvit Soi 33. It's not even something I'm craving due to being away from Bangkok as I've recently been in Spain but this is an excellent restaurant still and the clams in garlic might be my favourite thing to eat when not going for the usual spicy options. https://maps.app.goo.gl/RVigpuddycKWYEx7A   Apologies for failing to keep it brief, as usual but I love the food in Bangkok.   Ugh, just realised that I've failed to include 2 of my absolute favourites in Amin Biryani (I've posted about that previously though, huge recommendation) and Charmgang which might be my favourite mid-price restaurant in the city, just outstanding so had better press the Submit button now before this spirals.
• My second favourite thing to do in Thailand between LBs and drinking!

Krua Khun Phuk has always been my first stop and my first meal has to be Pad Grapao Kai dao. My other ‘go to’ there is the Khao Soi. But I might try the pad Grapao at Lek’s next time as suggested by sydney69er

My recommendations are not for your small local restaurants but two mid-scale restaurants you’ll find in many malls which are consistently good and decent value too.

Ros Niyom
The Khao Moo Deng/moo grawp combo is fantastic, likewise the pad Grapao moo grawp - check out that crispy egg which had a perfect runny centre!

Have a Zeed
This is an Isaan restaurant, one branch you’ll find in Terminal 21 often with a queue for good reason. I absolutely love their chicken massaman curry and can’t recommend it enough - pure comfort food

And I rarely pass up an opportunity to order kaw moo yaang to go with an evening beer with a spicy dip!

So many good food options
• I am sure that's what you tell your friends    Thanks for this Indian tip - i usually avoid the Indian restaurants, escpecially the ones with the agreesive touts out the front. Good to get a recommendation! last year I visited Bawarchi Rooftop Indian Restaurant on top of Solitaire Hotel at the end of Soi 11, the right hand turn end, near Holiday Inn Express. It was fairly good. Great evening views.
• Agreed...great topic. I do come here for the food. I'll suggest one Thai and a couple of non-Thai favorites. 1. Thai Niyom. No web page, they have a Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/ThaiNiyomBKK The restaurant is not big, and tucked away among the big buildings along Ploenchit, but it's been recognized by Michelin as one of the best affordable restaurants in BKK every year beginning in 2019. My favorites? Khao Soi Gai, a delicious chicken dish with spicy noodles and broth, The Fluffy Crispy Omelette with Spicy Pork is to die for. The Grilled Wagyu Beef is also spectacular. I'm not sure you can go wrong with anything on their menu. 2. Rang Mahal. https://rangmahalbkk.com  One of the best Indian restaurants I've enjoyed outside of India. It's a fairy elegant spot, on the top floor of the Rembrandt Hotel, but worth putting on something other than shorts and a t-shirt to enjoy. I've eating here at least a dozen times and never had a dish that wasn't excellent. If you like Indian, highly recommended. 3. Peppina. http://www.peppinabkk.com Pizza in BKK? Fuck yes! This is the real deal, Neapolitan style pizza with perfect crust and toppings that will bring back memories of Naples. There are several locations, I usually visit the one on the top floor of the Central Embassy shopping center (Ploenchit BTS stop). I like their Diavola and Chiang Mai pizzas, and they have a really good selection of antipasti options. Pastas are also good; I liked the pork cheek ragu. And their lemon tart is to die for.
• I too have visited Krua Khun Puk countless times. Most times it is great but I have been disappointed a few times - last time I had their Braised Pork noodle soup 50baht it wasn't as good as I remember it, too much pork liver and tendon! Also their Pad Krapow is tasty but looks like a dogs dinner, just brown goop (Pad Krapow at Moom Muum is much better and also at Lek's Last Stand - Lek is a great cook). I do love the Chicken Cashew nut at Krua 80B and last time I had Khao Soi 80B which actually comes from the little Khao Soi stall in the alley way between Soi 11/1 and Soi 11 (Zong Peep) Just down the road on Suk Rd, under Asok BTS is a Chinese/Cantonese restaurant called Thong Kee - I always get the pork wonton and roast duck noodle soup. Went from 80 baht to 95 Baht, still a bargain. Another Chinese/Cantonese I visit each time i'm in Bangkok is Hong Teh in the Ambassador Hotel on Soi 11. Not cheap eats! Is expensive but they got very good Dim Sum chefs, the best i've had in Bangers.
