It's quickly coming up to the time of year when the Mrs and I are going to be heading back over to Thailand. As with most Thai girls this means her thoughts are increasingly dominated by two main things - family and food, mostly food TBH. She's got a list of places where she wants to eat in the first week and in all honesty it's a bit optimistic to think that even a hungry lady boy can manage it all but she'll try. If I can be bothered I'll make a thread for some of those places on her list, particularly the cheap but still excellent ones. Instead of working through her list of recommendations here I'm going to discuss the one place I'm looking forward to most. A small group of us have booked this for a friend's birthday and I can't wait to go there again after a very memorable meal there earlier this year.   Aromkwan in On Nut is something that I think might be unique. It's definitely fucking delicious. This place is a very small restaurant attached to the owner's house. Despite that the chef has serious credentials from top restaurants and produces mountains  of beautiful food at reasonable prices. The food is a mix of Malaysian, Thai, Chinese and Indian slow cooked dishes like curries, chicken wings and big hunks of meats which are then smoked in an American style barbecue until the meat falls off the bone. This is then served on a gigantic pile of biryani rice and with loads of sides, some of which have also been smoked for hours too. Generally it serves set menus at prices like 999B for a ridiculously generous amount of food plus your beers and other drinks. There are additional options too, I especially recommend the slow cooked goat as being one of the best things I've eaten this year at least and the fish options are beautiful too. This is one of those restaurants that even hungry people like me end up leaving with a fridge worth of leftovers.   The atmosphere is fun, particularly in a small group as you can easily take over the restaurant for birthdays which is why my friend booked it for next month.   If going to On Nut to eat in a converted restaurant in a garden sounds unappealing they run a very popular takeaway operation where you can get barbecued meats or 30 pork knuckle biryani etc. I haven't tried these yet, but it's a matter of time until I do. Beautiful hotel, but the Dawin is more convenient and also nice on the upper rooms.

When I went to Landmark hotel in February, they finished renovation, and the lifts now require key cards. I picked landmark before because 1) it was luxurious 2) it didn't require key card so the LBs and GGs can come to my room easily. I had to pick them up which was annoying. Next time I'm in Bangkok, which is next month, I will be looking for something without key card access. Any advice would be appreciated. I only stay in luxury hotels.

I agree with everything written by. @Unavowed.   All those hotels are very good to excellent and will be perfect for a mongering.   If you are interested in considering other luxury hotels similar to the Standard then it might be worth also looking at the options available just one BTS stop away from Nana in Ploen Chit. This would include the Rosewood (outstanding hotel), Park Hyatt and Athenee. However if the main focus of your trip is to enjoy the naughty nightlife and have some LB action you will struggle beat the Hyatt or Sofitel, so convenient and high quality.   One more thing to note if you are looking in that price range is that the Landmark (the old high quality mongering classic option) isn't really up to the standard of the Hyatt or Sofitel these days. A group of friends who stayed there recently were quite disappointed despite having fond memories of previous stays there.
