Good Mexican food in Bangkok

Recommended Posts

I learned this weekend that my Mrs has never eaten Mexican food so am looking for good recommendations that we can try soon and hopefully add another option to our choice of restaurants when wanting a break from Thai food if she likes it.

She's avoided Mexican food previously as like with most Thais she's not big on cheese or sour cream too so ideally I'd prefer something that's authentic Mexican and a bit lighter than Tex-Mex style.

The only place I can remember going to in Bangkok for Mexican would be Margarita Storm which I enjoy when out drinking in that area but would like other good suggestions if you have them.

So far the leading candidate is Cholo which is a taco truck quite far down Soi 12. Has anyone here been there? A friend of mine swears by it but like me he admits to not knowing Mexican food as well as some people here will.

The Spotted Pig: Tex-Mex at Its Finest in Bangkok’s Silom Area

https://www.globe.co.th/eat-drink/gourmet-guide/the-spotted-pig-tex-mex-at-its-finest-in-bangkoks-silom-area/

The Spotted Pig is a Bangkok restaurant specializing in Tex-Mex cuisine, centrally located on Silom’s Soi Saladaeng 1.
The casual, all-day dining venue serves up authentic Mexican fusion dishes in a large renovated shophouse, first opening to the public in April of 2022.

They have also opened a branch at the Food court of Emsphere (a new big shopping Mall near BTS Phrom Phong, houses also the IKEA Sukhumvit Branch), their menu looks similar to the Saladaeng brach, but be advised here you will have a 'fast food' ambiance including food served on plastic plates !

I have been to both branches (end of 2024) and liked the food there so you might give it a shot if you are around one of these !

See below the pics of the Saladeang branch, for directions, menu and reviews see Google Maps etc !

FYI: this review is for informational purposes only, comes without any warranty on the  food and dining experience, also I don't have any  financial or personal interests here.

I have been to the mexican restaurant in Terminal 21, a bit more relaxed than the tex-mex takeaway style.

went there once and I was not impressed at all!

I've now tried Cholo's taco truck on Soi 12 on the string recommendation of a friend.

It's underneath an apartment building down towards the bottom of Soi 12 so it's a little out of the way but it's a very chilled place to spend some time.

The food was very good, especially the fish tacos and birria. We were intending on just having a quick meal but ended up staying a lot longer than planned and eating a lot more than expected partly because the food was delicious but mostly because the staff were in a bit of a party mood.

Even though it's  a food truck there was a good atmosphere there to hang  out and the staff were great. They seemed to be on a mission to get us to drink as many margaritas as possible with us getting a free margarita on arrival and then they were 2 for 1 after that with a few more drinks brought up seemingly at random. I can't be sure if this is how they are normally there as they told me they're taking a few days off over the upcoming holidays but having checked their instagram it seems like there's plenty of drinks being given out normally too.

Our plan was to have a quick bite to eat and then head to a few bars as we're not in town for long but after eating and drinking way too much there those plans fell apart. It was fun though and is a very solid recommdation if you're in the mood for good Mexican food at a decent price and it's not that far from the LB triangle but is a nice peaceful spot too.

Would I return? Definitely but maybe not if I need to start work early the next day as tequila can deal out plenty of pain the next morning.
