  1. 1+ to looking around then call direct.

My best trick at the moment is cashing in Airmiles - seems to be one of the better returns on using Avios miles for now

I found that as well. Booked two nights five star and kept cash for fun.

  2. i pretty much do the same as Davvid these days . Check offers online then email the hotel directly with my requirements . Most times they give me a nice deal , but sometimes a few emails bounced befote final deal struck :) .. I don't worry about emailing for one or two nights though , just longer stays .

Yeah I'm looking at 2 nights so that kind of saving without the hassle is fine.

  3. Daydreaming and looking at hotels for next month. Recently read a 'travel expert' in a Sunday supplement give the advice that we should always check the hotel site for best deals...hotel overlooking Chao Praya (jacuzzi suite) $423 theough them $234 via agoda. Beware of experts.

  4. Stayed here at beginning and end of trip last October. Arrived 4 days after the major event and while everything was toned down the trip was ok. Had visited G10 three years before when it was reopening/rebranded. Like many hotels of this standard in bkk it hasn't seen a huge amount of upkeep - noticeable wear and tear around the place but for the money, location and vibe it's still good value. The gym is so-so and the pool is a glorified bath tub but the rooftop area is a cool place to hang out and has enough secluded spots to molest a ladyboy without causing a stir. There was a drink special too - 3 for 2 cocktails which is good value if you're friendly with the barstaff. They get stronger each round if you're having fun. I may have been lucky that a group of twatpackers had been rude to him and made comments re my lb so he helped us out. Tipped him well.

Breakfast was ok, place was packed and staff were struggling. They were also definitely annoyed by a group of Italians carrying on loudly and (bizarrely)dressed for the beach at phuket - tiny shorts and fluoro singlets (the girls too...). This days after the King passed and a huge amount of info about toning it down and dressing respectfully. On the whole a good hotel for a few nights not sure if the pricier rooms are worth the extra. Staff were great and lb friendly.

  5. I'll be spending 4 nights in Pattaya next month and after looking at agoda reviews and searching the sister forum I have several thousand possibilities! So I'll fall back on the the trusted experts of this den of iniquity. Previous visit was two nights so I still know next to nothing of the city's layout. Seeking a hotel with pool, gym, breakfast, central, in room safe, decent bathroom. Price 1750b. All info gratefully received.

  6. The original article I saw this on had a lot of comments from regular holidaymakers/travellers (non BM) and a common theme was the perception of LoS as being less welcoming and more of a rip off than ever before. A recent discussion at work (I'm in Sydney) brought up a lot of negative comments albeit mostly re Phuket. Perhaps the military has a brilliant and cunning plan. Let's see.

  7. The latest cracking idea from the Ministry of Madness is to install SIM cards that will track foreigners so that their movements can be tracked at anytime.Includes resident "aliens".The spokesman assures us that the police will not abuse the system. That's a relief! All starts in six months (presumably a Thai six months so could be anytime or never).

  8. I stayed at "Da Bed Hotel" Just a short walk from NEP going away from Sukhumvit. Any ladyboy in heels could stumble that far...

I specifically stayed here just to find out what a low end room would be. It is workable... but not by much. I felt safe in the area and there are a couple other places nearby so one is not limited.

I thought I did a review but I cannot find it. Barely acceptable condition for me for sleeping overnight. Clean room but old and worn out. No mold. Safe is in the lobby not the room. No coffeemaker in room. Must purchase in lobby. There is a washing machine for laundry if you need. Dryer too I think. Toilet did not have a cover over the tank and I had to reach in the water to flush it. TV was old CRT. Not much in the way of power outlets. cost about $26 USD per night.

Did you treat yourself afterwards? This sounds close to prison-like!

  9. I looked at Sharma for my last trip but was put off by the reportedly poor wifi which is unacceptable in this day and age. Hope you have a good stay. Look forward to your comments.
