  1. They must have run into a few problems since their opening date was advertised as October 31st. I walked past a few time's in October and saw them working on masonry inside and noticed the artist rendition on the barrier outside. I thought there was no way they would make it by the end of month for their opening.

Both their website:http://http://themexicanbkk.com/ and their FB page: https://www.facebook.com/TheMexicanBKK/?fref=ts say nothing about opening date.

For those who may not have known where Paradise club was located here is a map of the area.

  2. Thanks for the update SM. I just booked a grande deluxe room for January. Also, great pic. Who are they?

January is a tough month for for getting upgrades, but worth a try, otherwise you'll need to wedge something around the beds wheels so it doesn't move. You might even talk to the manager and arrange maintenance to rig something.

Aum (Thai) and Ning (Lao) from Chaos 9. They are quite keen to work together again.

  3. Hi All

Realised I forgot to post my Review of the Above 11 Bar / Restaurant. I visited on 4th Feb with my 2 Fav LB (Bee & Patti) and I had already made a table reservation. We entered the lift with a couple of others and was so funny the expression on the European woman,s face was a picture as she stared at me with my 2 Friends. But we were greeted by the Bar by the waitress and shown to our roof side table overlooking Soi 11, and ordered cocktails, a Bottle of Wine and some sushi selection and we were treated just like any other customers so this place id 100% LB friendly.

We ordered, the soft Crab, Golden Potatoes, California Roll, Salmon and avacado roll, and a Tuna roll. The Food was very tasty, not the best sushi I have had but certainly edible. The bill with Wine was around 3500THB which I thought was very reasonable.

I would recommend a visit here, not just the view, but food and cocktails were very good - :D

I ended up going to Above Eleven (located on top of Fraser Suites) after stopping in at the Nest above LeFenix Hotel. There was no live music at the nest, so I wasn't going to pay those drink prices there all night so I took my date (Jell) for the evening to Above Eleven. The drink prices were about the same but Above Eleven offers a better view of the city and I hadn't been before. No worries with a ladyboy, but they have a dress code sign as you enter.

The atmosphere is quite nice and comfortable. As we arrived later a table on outer edge was open. The kitchen had just closed so we couldn't order a nibbly. I was quite impressed with the bathrooms as they offered a great view (Soi 11 and city) as well. Would be an even better view during daylight hours, but getting a table may be difficult.

It's a pretty nice set up really and would be a great place to take a date for a more quite relaxed evening out. I think I would rather take just one ladyboy rather than a few. Jell had never been either so it was nice for both of us to experience it for the first time together. Provides them a great place to take their selfies of where they are and what they are eating/drinking.

  4. I recently stayed in Aspen on three different bookings. During my first stay the internet was spotty at best, which was the case in February. I was upgraded as a return customer and they had rooms to spare. The manager and desk people are all polite and helpful except for the younger male who is a bit unattentive in my estimation. I brought multiple guests without an issue. However they don't seem to be calling up to my room when they leave like they used to.

I didn't have the water runoff on the floor from the shower as I experienced in the Deluxe room. The maid staff was excellent as usual cleaning the room whenever I wanted it. I was tipping them daily so was able to extra towels. I managed to make it to a few breakfasts, and would bring up a plate with fruits and yogurt for later.

I took off for CM and then London, so I left a bag behind at no charge. I returned mid month and had 3 days booked through Agoda in an executive suite again. I added 3 days on a Qantas awards booking in a deluxe room, but was able to stay in the same room (Executive Suite). Had no problems and little to no wait times for the tuk tuk. I also used i check in and Lohas Suites tuk tuk when I was returning to Soi 2. They are all real good about picking up each others guests I've found.

I've found that Aspens prices have been better than i check inns, and is a nicer and bigger rooms in my estimation. Lohas had some specials which were around 80 AUD a night, but opted for Aspen at $65 a night. I noticed more Arabs and Chinese this time around, and with that more kids are present.

The beds in the executive suite are huge, but are actually two doubles put together. Spacious, but there is a ridge in the middle which isn't the most comfortable place to sleep if three in the bed. In the executive suite and the bed is pinned in better by night stands, so the bed didn't have near the movement as other rooms I experienced before.

  5. Old thread but just wondering if anyone's had any luck with these gals and recommendations. They all look hot!

I had a go with Pechey who is still working at Club Daeng. I have another I'm hoping to hook into eventually. They don't make a lot of money from the shows so many work day jobs too. They are ladyboys and like to have fun like the ones in bars. I'm quite certain that several would be willing to go out after the show, but you'll have to pay the price of buying them some drinks at show (300 baht a pop) just to get them out.

Doors open at 8:30 for first show and the all you can drink special is now 1000 baht. Drinks for the performers is 300 baht. You can pay 888 baht and get one drink, but they won't sit with you. I usually just tip them which they don't mind and then buy a favorite a drink after.

Some photos from a show in mid October. I'll try to post some more later.

  6. I was quite surprised to read in the BKK post back in January that BTS stations were going to made W/C Accessible (lift's). I was even more surprised to see that they have started to do this. I saw an elevator being installed at one of the stops. I'm not sure if they will be open to everyone to use, which would make it easier for travelling with luggage too and from the airport.

  7. I've stayed at Swan Inn on Soi 4 on two different occasions. It's a very cheap option located just past Rajah Hotel Complex on the opposite side of Soi 4. I had stayed in Swan Inn 2 which is further down Soi 4 and a little nicer and bigger rooms. The first time I stayed there I used it as a day room since I had a midnight flight. My hotel on soi 2 couldn't give me a late check out because they were booked full that next day.

I don't think they take reservations and aren't listed on booking sites like Agoda. You basically walk up and see if they have a room around noon. The cost is 700 baht. I think they have 14 rooms total all on the second floor. The internet signal is poor unless you are close to the front. My second day I couldn't get signal in the room. big fridge, 2 free bottles of water, warm water in shower. It would make a a good ST room if you were looking to do multiples near Nana. No safe for valuables. The outlets are antiquated, but I was lucky to have an adapter that worked.

The second time I used it when I ended up changing my flight and staying two extra days. My hotel (Aspen Suites) didn't have any rooms on those dates as they were booked full for the Chinese new year. I thought that may be the story at most places on short notice so I went to this place and paid 2100 baht for 3 nights. Nothing fancy, but okay in a pinch.

  8. I have inquired about the some of the photos not showing up.. It's the same issue with both forums.

    Hello,

The forum backup was restored, yet not all files could be recovered.

Unfortunately there's nothing that can be done.

All moderation can do is kindly ask the OP to re-upload the pictures.

Only if the files were uploaded to the temp. backup server, I can sync to them to the new server.

    Thanks,

    Alex

  9. Be patient fella's we have another photo uploading problem effecting both forums. Alex is a aware of it and working to rectify it. Message from about 5 hours ago.

    Guys,

The issue is still being worked on.

Will update once the uploads are working again.

Do apologize for any inconvenience caused.

    Thanks,

    Alex

  10. i was gonna book hotel icon but i found out the entire hotel is non smokin so im lookin at monaco ( icheckinn) now. Do they have smokin rooms? and apparently no coffee in the rooms eh? I usually stay at aspen suites love that hotel but i cant stand the beds on wheels anymore, anyone know if the beds @ icheckinn also have wheels? thanks in advance

I don't remember them having wheels, but I do recall those at Aspen Suites having wheels.

i Check Inn on Soi has small balcony in that you can smoke on.

  11. +1 and thanks for the report Siam Man, about the "Chill In" room I will be giving this pool table a work out for sure, as I love to play pool! 5555

My brother (TerryBB) will be staying there also and we'll certainly be playing pool and "Chilling in out" there before we go out to enjoy the nightlife!

The BankokLadyboy forum once again proves to be a great source of knowledge!

    Thanks again,

    Iceberg :)

Remember the short cut to Soi 4 if going to 7/11, Laundry or other things that Soi 2 doesn't have. You can also take the Hotel Tuk Tuk down to Sukhumvit. I ran until until 11 most nights when I was there. Was great to take down to Rajah Hotel Entrance in front of Majestic Grande. Practically at Paradise Clubs door. You can also play pool for free there too.

I've stayed a couple times now for a week each time. I would have stayed in February however there rate increased and Aspen was about the same. Aspen is bigger, and had breakfast so I chose them.

I see you booked on Agoda. You can also book them through their website which saves a little, but morte importantly you can get a free upgrade if they have room as a return customer. For future reference.

  12. Good hotel.I have stayed there many times too. The only issue I have faced every time I stayed there was the water seems to flow on to the floor from the tub every time I took a shower.

Yes, that happened to me. Just makes it harder on the maids really. You can also unhook the shower head to prevent that, but it's harder to wash your hair that way.

By the way SM who is the girl in the blue?

  13. Give a look at the reviews int he hotel section.

I recently stayed at the SM Grande on Soi 4 which is even closer to Nana than Dawin. It has a nice pool and plenty of sun when it's out.

    SM Grande

They also have a tuk tuk which can take you down Soi 4 and even to the BTS station on Soi 6. It's an easy walk from Nana, and Rajah to the hotel, even for a gurl in heels.

  14. I recently spent a week at Aspen Suites this month. It was my third stay here. This time I booked 7 days through Agoda for $380 AUD. I was going to try somewhere different, but I had done that earlier in the trip by giving SM Grande a try. I made the descision for Aspen again based on past experiences and the fact that they were cheaper than i Check In's at Nana and just a bit more at Phloenchit.

Aspen is far better than both and my rate included a breakfast which I think is worth getting up for. I actually made it for 4 out of 7 times during my week long stay. I rarely ate out the rest of the time. I made two runs to Foodland and did some cooking in the room. The rooms have kitchenette's and they will bring you up cookware if you call. The refrigerator is large. They also give you a voucher if you dine in their restaurant. I never did, but they had this special running that looked decent.

    IMG_7643.JPG

I was on the 6th Floor this time, and the room was more spacious. It wasn't an upgrade per say, but a better room than I've had before. I asked for an upgrade when I checked in saying I was a return customer. They said they were full so they couldn't. I think the fact that I was staying 7 days may have hurt that chance as well as the Chinese New Year.

As I mentioned before the Tuk is very convienant and was always available before 11 P.M. There was some construction going on next hotel, but it wasn't so bad and didn't wake me up. The only drawback was a week internet signal that started on my third day. They didn't get it rectified until day 5, but it was fine after. I would definitely recommend Aspen. On a side note Steve from Darkside/Stringfellows was a couple doors down from me. He stays for a whole month and gets a great deal. I think he pays 46,000 baht

  15. If you turn into Cheap Charlies off Soi 11 there are a group of restaraunts. Aprilbr, and a tranny we met went there before heading to Darkside one night. It's pretty good mexican fare. Not as good as you can get in the Southwest US, or Mexico, but much better than we can get in Australia. I got the tacos which were better than Taco Sunrises in my opinion. The service was good and the decor was better than Taco Sunrise. Anita the tranny thought it was better than she expected. She is from the States (Texas) so she is used to great Tex Mex fare. Sorry I didn't get more photos.

I fully endorse Sima Man's comments about the Mexican place in Soi 11. I've been there a few times now and found it to be good value. To find it walk up Soi 11 from Suk Rd. The first lane way on your left off Soi 11 has a number of bars and restaurants. It's located in the middle of these.

    Brendan

I took a ladyboy to meet Aprilbr at Charlie Brown's Mexican again. We arrived before Aprilbr so we sat at the bar while they cleaned a table for us. They were doing quite well by the looks, and only had small tables of two open when arrived. Soon after Aprilbr showed up our table was ready. It was a Wednesday night and they had a promotion that you could buy any 3 nibbles for the price of two. So I ordered the Baja Fish taco's that were 100 baht each for myself, and then ordered 3 of the pork/chicken Taco's for my friend which were 80 baht each. The food was all good as usual and the free chips and salsa is a nice touch and tasty. Aprilbr left before the bill came to meet a friend whose flight had just landed and was due to meet him at his hotel. When the bill came I noticed it was a bit higher than expected so I looked it over and noticed they had charged me 100 baht for each of the 3 Bajah Taco's. :Bonkers: When I pointed this out to a waitress who was cashiering she said the Bajah Tacos weren't included on the promotion. I laughed at her and went and grabbed my menu where our original waiter had circled everything included on the promotion. Then yet another waiter got involved and said since the we had 6 taco's all together only the 80 baht ones would be free. :Bonkers: Bullshit I said. What kind of nonsense is that, and said I had the 3 for 2 promotion and so did my friend. Then I noticed a second Soda water was also on the bill. I could have sworn that Aprilbr only had one. They insisted he had two. They had only discounted 80 baht total also on the Taco's which should have been 180 baht according to the menu. The extra Soda water was 35 baht. Altogether it was a 135 baht baht error.

    IMG_7483.JPG

I could tell by the decor the place was owned by an American and asked if I could speak to him as this was bad business practice. They said they would call him and he would come in. Well I didn't have time to wait around for him as I was meeting Aprilbr and his friend at Darkside Bar. So I paid the bill and guaranteed I would let others know about this experience. So you can bet trip adviser will be getting a review. I purposely pointed out there would be no tip which would have likely been 100 baht. At Darkside I told Aprilbr about the bill and he confirmed he only had one soda water.

So after this experience I would have to downgrade this place. The food is good, but be wary of the promotions and the billing practices.

  16. Have a look at SM Grande just after the Dawin. Very similar to Omini but less outdated. It on agoda too. Years back It used to be a condo block and only with a year lease but they now do daily rooms too.

I saw SM Grande, on Agoda. They were very reasonable. I went to SM website and called the hotel to ask if they were guest friendly and I was told to call back in 3 hours. I never did, but was wondering if they were. With a name like that they can't be all bad.

  17. I had breakfast at three places on soi 4 last week.

    Bus Stop 125 thb.

Hanrahans early bird price before 12 is 190 thb after it's 240.

    Charlies 176 thb.

Good price and photo comparison Fred. Which one did you like best and which was the best value for money.

I went to Bus Stop as I do almost every trip. It has gone up gradually to 125. It was 110 baht when I first started going. I like also like that they have the days newspapers there.

  18. One of the things I miss the most when I'm in Thailand is a nice fresh Garden Salad. Can't find these except for higher end hotels usually. This last trip I was staying at Aspen Suites which had a kitchenette, so I decided to make some of my own meals. That's when I found a good salad bar in Foodland on Soi 5 sukhumvit. Everything was fresh and has a good selection. Tomatoes that are fully ripe seem to always be in shortage, but with this you can select your own, sliced or cherry style. They charge you by weight so you gill a bag and then weigh it. My experience is that it average 30 baht a bowl. Dressing was 15 baht a packet which was about two servings. I picked up some croutons also which lasted my whole stay.

It's a great option for me pending my hotel has dishware. I made some other simple things, but looking to take on some other meals next trip.

I also eat at Tae Lok Dee, which is the restaurant in the front of Foodland. I think a single garden salad there is 120 baht.

  19. Putting location aside I would rate Aspen at least a star above I check inn. You pay more sure, but you get more, small pool, small but well thought out gym, breakfast buffet. Better if slightly older room. If you tend to gravitate toward Soi 4 and Nana for your entertainment then location is excellent. The last few trips I've tended more toward Soi 7 and 11 so the Icheckinns in 7/1 and 11/1 were more suitable.

I know Boomerang posted about expectations from budget properties and I understand that but it's been my category of choice for most of my trips so I've stayed in a fair cross section at this level and IMHO the service at the 7/1 property has declined since my first stay there. Had that service remained consistent I'd not be considering other options for my next trip.

Having said that I'd also say it's a fault of so many budget places. Nice and shiny and new on dy 1 but maintenance of fixtures, fittings AND service seems to often be on a one way decline from then on.

I'm staying in a popular Guesthouse in the LK area of Patts at the moment and see a similar thing happening.

*Note prices from Agoda not the i Check Inn website.

I've been looking at their rooms as of late for a stay in January and in February They have raised their price significantly. They must be getting plenty of customers now because it was close to double the price when I first started staying here. For February stay it was over double the amount at $83 AUD for their cheapest room. I think I the highest I paid before was about $40 AUD and I paid as low as 1,100 baht per night. Unreal.

I've booked at the Aspen with Breakfast included for $65 AUD a night. Bigger room, brekkie, kitchenette, bigger fridge, bigger bathroom, and way better value now a days.

The i Check Inn on Soi 2 is considerably cheaper at $55 AUD. They have gone up and price as well, as I paid 1400 baht a night in December.
