iCheck Inn, Ploenchit Soi 2 (updated 2015)

Remember the short cut to Soi 4 if going to 7/11, Laundry or other things that Soi 2 doesn't have. You can also take the Hotel Tuk Tuk down to Sukhumvit. I ran until until 11 most nights when I was there. Was great to take down to Rajah Hotel Entrance in front of Majestic Grande. Practically at Paradise Clubs door. You can also play pool for free there too. I've stayed a couple times now for a week each time. I would have stayed in February however there rate increased and Aspen was about the same. Aspen is bigger, and had breakfast so I chose them. I see you booked on Agoda. You can also book them through their website which saves a little, but morte importantly you can get a free upgrade if they have room as a return customer. For future reference.
  2. Airport link from International airport to Phaya Thai is 45 baht and then catch BTS at Phaya Thai to Nana station which is 30 baht I think.. Exit the station on the even side right at Soi 6. All very easy. I think we have thread on Airport Link which I will find and merge this one with.

Aspen Suites soi 2 (Updated 2015)

Yes, that happened to me. Just makes it harder on the maids really. You can also unhook the shower head to prevent that, but it's harder to wash your hair that way. Gate DS

hotel near Nana with pool and all day sun

Give a look at the reviews int he hotel section. I recently stayed at the SM Grande on Soi 4 which is even closer to Nana than Dawin. It has a nice pool and plenty of sun when it's out. SM Grande They also have a tuk tuk which can take you down Soi 4 and even to the BTS station on Soi 6. It's an easy walk from Nana, and Rajah to the hotel, even for a gurl in heels.

Aspen Suites soi 2 (Updated 2015)

I recently spent a week at Aspen Suites this month. It was my third stay here. This time I booked 7 days through Agoda for $380 AUD. I was going to try somewhere different, but I had done that earlier in the trip by giving SM Grande a try. I made the descision for Aspen again based on past experiences and the fact that they were cheaper than i Check In's at Nana and just a bit more at Phloenchit. Aspen is far better than both and my rate included a breakfast which I think is worth getting up for. I actually made it for 4 out of 7 times during my week long stay. I rarely ate out the rest of the time. I made two runs to Foodland and did some cooking in the room. The rooms have kitchenette's and they will bring you up cookware if you call. The refrigerator is large. They also give you a voucher if you dine in their restaurant. I never did, but they had this special running that looked decent. I was on the 6th Floor this time, and the room was more spacious. It wasn't an upgrade per say, but a better room than I've had before. I asked for an upgrade when I checked in saying I was a return customer. They said they were full so they couldn't. I think the fact that I was staying 7 days may have hurt that chance as well as the Chinese New Year. As I mentioned before the Tuk is very convienant and was always available before 11 P.M. There was some construction going on next hotel, but it wasn't so bad and didn't wake me up. The only drawback was a week internet signal that started on my third day. They didn't get it rectified until day 5, but it was fine after. I would definitely recommend Aspen. On a side note Steve from Darkside/Stringfellows was a couple doors down from me. He stays for a whole month and gets a great deal. I think he pays 46,000 baht
  6. I took a ladyboy to meet Aprilbr at Charlie Brown's Mexican again. We arrived before Aprilbr so we sat at the bar while they cleaned a table for us. They were doing quite well by the looks, and only had small tables of two open when arrived. Soon after Aprilbr showed up our table was ready. It was a Wednesday night and they had a promotion that you could buy any 3 nibbles for the price of two. So I ordered the Baja Fish taco's that were 100 baht each for myself, and then ordered 3 of the pork/chicken Taco's for my friend which were 80 baht each. The food was all good as usual and the free chips and salsa is a nice touch and tasty. Aprilbr left before the bill came to meet a friend whose flight had just landed and was due to meet him at his hotel. When the bill came I noticed it was a bit higher than expected so I looked it over and noticed they had charged me 100 baht for each of the 3 Bajah Taco's. When I pointed this out to a waitress who was cashiering she said the Bajah Tacos weren't included on the promotion. I laughed at her and went and grabbed my menu where our original waiter had circled everything included on the promotion. Then yet another waiter got involved and said since the we had 6 taco's all together only the 80 baht ones would be free. Bullshit I said. What kind of nonsense is that, and said I had the 3 for 2 promotion and so did my friend. Then I noticed a second Soda water was also on the bill. I could have sworn that Aprilbr only had one. They insisted he had two. They had only discounted 80 baht total also on the Taco's which should have been 180 baht according to the menu. The extra Soda water was 35 baht. Altogether it was a 135 baht baht error. I could tell by the decor the place was owned by an American and asked if I could speak to him as this was bad business practice. They said they would call him and he would come in. Well I didn't have time to wait around for him as I was meeting Aprilbr and his friend at Darkside Bar. So I paid the bill and guaranteed I would let others know about this experience. So you can bet trip adviser will be getting a review. I purposely pointed out there would be no tip which would have likely been 100 baht. At Darkside I told Aprilbr about the bill and he confirmed he only had one soda water. So after this experience I would have to downgrade this place. The food is good, but be wary of the promotions and the billing practices.

    SM Grande Residence (updated 2015)

I just spent a week at the SM Grande Residence. Was quite a good price on Agoda. I checked the same dates on their website and that info came back as the dates weren't available. The room was quite spacious. I think it was 34 sq meters. Small safe, average bathroom that was a bit dated. Nice big bed. Maid service adapted to my sleeping hours and came around 4:30 each day. It had a balcony, but only window access. The desk people were pretty ordinary. The night I checked in there was no one even at the desk. I got the security guard to find her. He pointed that she was in the toilet. So I waited and then she showed up from somewhere else not the toilets? They were absent a couple of other times when I wanted to drop off my key before going out.. I called them before booking to make sure they were guest friendly. They didn't have a clue what I was talking about so it was a wasted long distance phone call. The best I got from them was to call back in three hours. So I took a little gamble and booked it anyway as the price was quite good at $45 AUD a night. I wrote on comments that I would be bringing guests home each night and let me know if that was a problem. They never responded. Turned out it was indeed guest friendly. They have a gate out front with a security guard who collects and gives back their ID's. However they didn't call up to the room when they left alone, so I suppose one could leave you for dead if they wanted. Lot's of people actually live there so I could see where bringing in P4P gurls could be frowned upon, but it's Soi 4 location means they need to to compete with other hotels in the area that are also Guest friendly. It's not to far down Soi 4 and before the Ibis. Easy walks to Nana and Rajah hotel complex. You can also take their tuk tuk to Sukhumvit and Soi 4 intersection or to the Nana BTS station. The tuk tuk service doesn't run very late. I think stops at 6 or 7. They have a pool on the 3rd floor which was pretty decent size. You have to use your room towels but you can exchange them for fresh ones after. They also have a fitness center which I didn't check out. A BKK Post is free for guests on the lobby counter.

Omni Tower Apartments Suk. Soi 4

I saw SM Grande, on Agoda. They were very reasonable. I went to SM website and called the hotel to ask if they were guest friendly and I was told to call back in 3 hours. I never did, but was wondering if they were. With a name like that they can't be all bad.

    Breakfast in soi 4

Good price and photo comparison Fred. Which one did you like best and which was the best value for money. I went to Bus Stop as I do almost every trip. It has gone up gradually to 125. It was 110 baht when I first started going. I like also like that they have the days newspapers there.
  10. One of the things I miss the most when I'm in Thailand is a nice fresh Garden Salad. Can't find these except for higher end hotels usually. This last trip I was staying at Aspen Suites which had a kitchenette, so I decided to make some of my own meals. That's when I found a good salad bar in Foodland on Soi 5 sukhumvit. Everything was fresh and has a good selection. Tomatoes that are fully ripe seem to always be in shortage, but with this you can select your own, sliced or cherry style. They charge you by weight so you gill a bag and then weigh it. My experience is that it average 30 baht a bowl. Dressing was 15 baht a packet which was about two servings. I picked up some croutons also which lasted my whole stay. It's a great option for me pending my hotel has dishware. I made some other simple things, but looking to take on some other meals next trip. I also eat at Tae Lok Dee, which is the restaurant in the front of Foodland. I think a single garden salad there is 120 baht.

    i Check Inn Soi 7/1

*Note prices from Agoda not the i Check Inn website. I've been looking at their rooms as of late for a stay in January and in February They have raised their price significantly. They must be getting plenty of customers now because it was close to double the price when I first started staying here. For February stay it was over double the amount at $83 AUD for their cheapest room. I think I the highest I paid before was about $40 AUD and I paid as low as 1,100 baht per night. Unreal. I've booked at the Aspen with Breakfast included for $65 AUD a night. Bigger room, brekkie, kitchenette, bigger fridge, bigger bathroom, and way better value now a days. The i Check Inn on Soi 2 is considerably cheaper at $55 AUD. They have gone up and price as well, as I paid 1400 baht a night in December.

    Na Thapae Hotel Chiang Mai

Na Thapae http://www.nathapae.com/ I actually booked through Agoda which was cheaper than the Na Thape website. I found out about this hotel when I stayed next door at P21. It's a bit older I think and it's cheaper. Na thapae is classified as a Boutique hotel. It doesn't have the free mini bar like P21. The location is just behind Raming lodge which is located in between the Thapae gate and Loh Kroh Road which is where the nightlife is. It's tucked away so it's actually pretty quite and no real traffic to speak of except for slow travelling vehicles down the winding road. They have ground floor rooms unlike P21 which is what I requested and got to eliminate stair climbs. The reception is only open from 7 until midnight so if you have late arrival or early departure you need to let them know ahead of time. The reception ladies are very nice and accommodating. One of them I think is Indian whose English is excellent. No breakfast option, but is so close to some really inexpensive and good places to eat anytime of day. I rented a motorbike which you can park out front. There are two security guards who hang around out front during the evenings. One is P21 and the other is for Na Thapae. The biggest drawback for me was the hot water unit on the wall. Those things never get warm enough or keep warm enough for me. Could have been worse if it was cold. Their is also no safe in the room. There is lock boxes up front. I paid 1200 baht a night. I think P21 was about 1500 a night for this same time. I really like this location, so either hotel would do for me. there is a small laundry just two doors down from Na Thapae. A little old Thai lady runs it and it's only 30 baht a kilo which means you can travel very light. I would take her something each day and pick up the previous day. I went back to BKK with everything clean. Guest friendly no matter how many you have.

    Na Thapae Hotel Chiang Mai

Nice work Fred. Great to see the deluxe room. Looks like the bathroom is bigger, a couple of chairs, a wardrobe and more spacious than the room I had on ground floor. I didn't realize they had breakfast, wasn't included in my price. Where do they serve it? I think I recognize the ladyboy in your wardrobe. Is that Minnie from Shamrock Bar?

iCheck Inn, Ploenchit Soi 2 (updated 2015)

I recently stayed at the i Check Inn on Soi 2. I was hoping to get the free upgrade as a repeat customer, however they were full so it was a smaller room than I had last time and no couch. I moved over from Aspen suites which is better for longer stays. i Check is about $15 AUD cheaper a night I think. My room wasn't ready yet so I had to wait in the Chill in room on the second floor. I had never been down to this level before. There I found that free coffee and hot chocolate machine like they have in the i Check Inn lobby on Soi 7/1. Also a pool table, restroom, and a room with a comfy couch and TV. Internet access which helped pass the hour wait I had until someone from reception came up and told me my room was ready. No burners in the kitchen so no cooking like I was doing in Aspen Suites. However it was a decent sized kitchen which I used twice for standing sex. I had no problem with guest. In fact I had three in my room at the same time one night and they didn't bat an eye. Tuk tuk was always ready to run me down to the end of Soi 2 or a convenient stop at Rajah Hotel complex. I had a midnight flight back to Oz so I got a late check out to 5 P.M. for 500 baht. Usually it's 700 baht until 6 P.M. but they couldn't give me that because they were full. Aspen Suites was also full during this Christmas period, which tells me tourism is recovering. Prices are also higher than last year Christmas time at all the hotels I stayed at previously or compared. Chill in Room area

    Club Dang Cabaret Show

I wouldn't ask them like that, but if you bought them a few drinks which are quite pricey I'm sure they would join you out later. Although they appear very ladylike and aren't bargurls as such they are ladyboys who like to have fun. They stuck around after their appearance Paradise Club and partied hard. At least two were very willing to go home with me. I took the Birthday gurl Peche. It was supposed to be LT but turned into ST. I've went three times with a date. The last time they asked me if I had single friends. So they are ready to have some fun outside of work. I'm sure they will be up for some fun tonight as they will be appearing at Paradise Club's NYE Party tonight.

    Hotel Icon Bangkok?

I just looked at this hotel for February on Agoda. Their Iconic room has a BTS special. You get two BTS day passes per day, and two cocktails and tapas at their bar per day, free breakfast, 24 bus shuttle to Phloenchit Center. One time mini bar per stay, laptop safe. Agoda Insider deal for $97 AUD a night. It's Soi 2 location is just past Rajah Hotel Complex which is a short walk and they also have a free shuttle.

    OTS's Hotel reviews

In your video I didn't see any cooking facilities in the room besides the Microwave. Did I overlook something? I ended up cooking in the room this last time I stayed in the Aspen Suites. They had two burners and a microwave. It was great for the longer stay. I like being close to BTS and use it on solo voyages down to Darkside. Then take a taxi for two back from Darkside or Nana.

    OTS's Hotel reviews

Have you stayed in the Superior or Deluxe Rooms at this property? They are on Agoda now for February for 42 and 46 AUD. The One Bedroom Suite is $62 AUD which is around the price you got I believe. The Deluxe room looks good with seating area and all but says it's only 25 sq meters. I'm wondering how they get all that furniture into that space. In the photo it looks bigger, How far is the walk to On Nut BTS station?

Aspen Suites soi 2 (Updated 2015)

I stayed here for a week this month. It was my second stay, so I knew what to expect. This time I had the breakfast included. It was pretty decent buffet, but the bacon needed to be cooked more. You can order eggs how you like them. They forgot my order one morning so had to put it in again after waiting 10 minutes. They had some new young guy at the reception, whose English was lacking which led to some small frustrations. I'm liking this location more and more. I can take the Tuk tuk straight down to Rajah Hotel complex which limits walking. I've also found that I can take Aspens Suites, i Check Inn's and Lohas Suites Tuk tuks whenever the hotel I'm staying at has already gone out. They are all good about picking up extra's from the other hotels because they may get a tip.
