Phachara Suites Visitor / Joiner Policy

Walk of shame? Shame for who? Think about it: You're already staying at a hotel in a notorious red light district. It's a bit ridiculous to suddenly be concerned about appearances, don't you think? As for Phachara, because it is located on mongering ground zero and a lot of their business is directly related to the local p4p scene, there is nothing you can do that the staff hasn't seen one zillion times before. They don't care. Most other guests don't care because they are engaged in same shenanigans you are. As for the minority of guests who are offended by what consenting adults are doing, that's their problem not yours.
  3. Here's a solution: Anyone (read: Chinese tourists) who hasn't bothered to fill out their arrival cards and / or doesn't have their passport in hand prior to seeing the immigration officer must go to the back of the line immediately. Problem solved.

    Club Dang Cabaret Show

Korea Town is an open air shopping center located around the corner from CIB and up half a block on Sukhumvit. I have never been to Mambo, but I think they have a large theater similar to Calypso, Alcazar, etc. Club Dang was a small operation at Korea Town and I am guessing its the same at their new location.

    Club Dang Cabaret Show

Isn't Soi 55 like Soi 33 - bars and restaurants cater to Japanese along with a healthy dose of Japanese-like disdain for gaijin?

    Citrus Suites Sukumvit Soi 6

Chinese tour groups also took over Grand Sukhumvit across from Phachara. This is first I have heard about Citrus Suites having the same fate. Arab families let their unattended children run loose in hotels at 3:00 AM or any other hour. The kids aren't loud and they don't behave badly, but it's a pain having to navigate around them in the hallways while tipsy and bringing an LB back to your room in the wee hours.

    Monsoon in Soi 8

As I recall, this place has (or at least had) seats carved out of tree logs that weighed a ton and were impossible to pull up to the tables. You had to pull the table toward yourself.

    Soi 11 Hotels

I have stayed at Citrus 11 a few times and can recommend that one along with OneTrueSaxon. If you can, you should spring for one of their suite rooms. It's not much more than a regular room and the suites have 2 full bathrooms, which comes in very handy when you bring guests into your room. Last December, I stayed at Solitaire which is on Soi 11 where it veers off to Soi 13. This place is not bad and the rooms have gigantic beds - larger than king size and I had never come across them before. You can easily sleep with 3 ladyboys in one bed if you need. The restaurant is pretty lame, but that's no big deal because Soi 11 has many places to eat. Below is a thread on Solitaire - despite qualms, I would stay there again because of its location and value. Last but not least is Grand Swiss Hotel, which I really like. It's a Compass property like the various Citrus hotels and every one of their places offer a lot of bang for the buck. Below is a review I wrote a few years ago. If you read it all the way through you will come across a little treat at the end, 555. Hope this helps and good luck.

    Dynasty Grande or Phachara Suites

Maybe you mean Amari? If so, they also have (or had) a guest fee. See post #1 in same guest policy thread. Unlike Landmark and Phachara I have never stayed at Amari, so I have no idea if they actually collect the fee or not. The point is, many hotels in lower Sukhumvit have these fees on the books but they aren't serious about them.

    Dynasty Grande or Phachara Suites

I wouldn't lose any sleep over that. I have stayed there 6 or 7 times over the years. That has been their "official" policy all along, but they don't really enforce it. I too like to take more than one guest per day into my room, and did it all the time when I stayed there. Only once did they try to tack on joiner fee at checkout. I politely asked them to remove it and pointed out that I was a repeat customer. They removed the charges quickly with no questions asked. During the daytime, just march with your guest to the elevators like you own the place and nobody will say will a word about IDs or signing in guests. At night time they usually have a guard at a table in the lobby collecting IDs of guests and there won't be any getting around him, but that doesn't matter because as said above their guest policy fee BS isn't really enforced. Interesting that you mentioned Landmark as an alternative, because they also have an official 1K baht guest fee policy that they don't bother to collect. This is from my email to them a few years ago in the hotel guest policy thread. Scroll down to post #25 in thread link below to see what they said when asked.....

Zen Rooms /Best hotel for Check inn bar

You can read a little about it below... There are other good hotels on Soi 10 - some guys like Paradiso which is in very close proximity to CIB, and down the street is Galleria 10. I have stayed at G10 a few times in the past. It's just a 2 or 3 minute walk from CIB, nice pool and bar scene on the roof and CIB LBs all love going there.

    Guest Friendly Hotels In Bangkok

Sky train station is a 5 minute walk from the hotel - you can probably be at Nana station in 12 or 15 minutes. When you stay on, say, Soi 13 it takes you about that long to get to NEP in a taxi when in traffic. If you don't mind the distance you can get some dynamite deals on great hotel rooms the further you get away from lower Sukhumvit.

5 star hotel with live music

Grand Hyatt Erawan has live jazz in the lobby bar every night. Down in the basement is a wine bar that has a live lounge-type piano act, but that seems to be on intermittent basis. I have also been in the wine bar when they have had no entertainment. The GH is a stones throw away from Central World Mall and Siam Paragon is a 8-10 minute walk.
  15. You may want to look into new Citrus Suites at intersection of Soi 4 & 6 - across from old Guess bar and down the soi from Phachara. Scroll down to the end of the thread for Bwana Lb's review from earlier this week. It looks perfect for access to NEP and Chaos 9.

    Vaccination clinic recommendations

You won't see any snakes. You are far more likely to have an unpleasant encounter with a stray dog, perhaps one with distemper or even rabid. Giant rats running along the street gutters are another problem, particularly around sidewalk bars and food carts.

    Rooftop bars

Bangkok has smog , high heat, 1 zillion percent humidity, monsoon rains - and all of that can happen in the same day. The point is, there is no ideal time weather-wise to visit BKK. Pay no heed to weather projections predicting what will happen 6 weeks from now, because even the best forecasters have no friggin idea on whether it will rain on March 3 or whatever. It's a waste of time reading them, much less planning a trip based on them. Plan your trip for whenever it is you really want to go. As for the weather, you can't control it so why obsess over it? Just go when you want and hope for the best.

    Testosterone tablets

There are docs in Thailand who give injections. I never get them there myself, because I get 2 large doses in the week before I leave the US and that keeps things going until I return home. I know you can also buy testosterone and syringes from some pharmacies in Thailand, but you don't want to do that because injecting yourself without physician supervision is unwise and dangerous. There was another BM from this board living full time in Thailand who did that. He was giving himself large doses thinking more was better. He passed away suddenly and I wonder if his injecting himself hastened his passing. Be smart and don't dose yourself. When you get your first injection, you will feel a jolt that day. A few days after that ,libido, energy etc. return to where they were before and then you get weekly injections. It was a long time ago when I started, but I think it was maybe 3-4 weeks before I felt full effects. Every guy is different, however. Some guys get testosterone pellet injections which last several weeks, but my doctor said weekly injections remain the best treatment. If you can, you need to start your treatments at home under doctor supervision about 4-6 weeks before your trip. That way, your motor will be humming when you arrive in BKK. I recommend every guy over the age of 40 or so get testosterone treatments. It changes everything for the better.

    Testosterone tablets

Why don't you want injections? I have getting weekly testosterone injections from my doctor for several years now. It remains the fastest and best way to get what you are after. Whatever means of dosing you do, it will take a few weeks to obtain full effects. Unless you are spending a couple of months in LOS, beginning treatments at the start of a trip won't help you at all.

Traveling with condoms and sex toys

A man hasn't lived until he has perused sex toys at the Indian street booths whilst Arab women wearing full black burqas pass by. Insider tip for horndogs and mongers: Burqa gals showing any eyebrow are promiscuous. Have fun, fellas.

    OTS's Hotel reviews

These manhole covers. These are smaller ones, raised a bit that almost act like speed bumps. There are larger rectangular shaped covers in the middle of the soi in some spots. Thai construction quality....

    OTS's Hotel reviews

The roadwork on So 13 is complete now. It's still not a smooth road because of the giant manhole / access covers put into place, but is no longer the mess it was. It's concrete, not asphalt.

Zen Rooms /Best hotel for Check inn bar

The building is undergoing a substantial renovation now. Some of the interior has been gutted from bottom floor all the way to the top. The little restaurant located in the corner of the building facing soi 10 is still operating, but am not sure about the rest of the building. I took these pics last night at 2:00 am and no lights were on so it was hard to tell what if anything was occupied. First shot is facing down the little side soi toward CIB in lower left of pic.
  24. They hate it, as anybody who has taken an LB to Charley Brown's or The Mexican can tell you. There is a particular aversion to corn tortillas, one of the staples of the cuisine.

    Solitaire Bangkok on Soi 13

Yes I stayed there last week. Walking to Nana is quite a hike and it would take longer than 15 minutes. What google maps don't show are the crumbling sidewalks, Indian trinket booths, food carts, Arabs families loitering, beggars, etc that you have to navigate on the way. You can take a motorbike taxi to Sukhumvit for 20 baht, and then connect whatever way you want from there. There are also cabs and tuk tuks available. If cab is on the meter, NEP would be about 50 or 60 baht. My room was a bit on the smallish side, a mid-priced room I can't remember what is was called. However, the bed was the largest I have ever seen - much larger than a king size. I had 2 LBs spend the night with me a couple of nights and we could have easily accomodated a 3rd girl for 4 people total. The bathroom had very little counter top space, which is something I hate. I like being able to put all toiletries on the counter top next to the sink, but I couldn't do that. The closet was tiny and there really isn't anyplace to store undershorts or socks except in your luggage. 24 hour room service is not available, which is another negative. The restaurant itself is nothing special, but the food is decent both in quality and price. I know this comes off as a negative review, but I wouldn't have any problems staying there again. However, if you want to stay in this area at a similar price you can get more bang for the buck at Grand Swiss on soi 11 or In Residence on soi 13. One last thing: they don't take IDs of guests, which is something to be wary of if you plan on bringing a freelancer to your room.
