Traveller’s diarrhoea, food poisoning (Dukoral)
MarkSussex replied to steve54's topic in Health Issues
Don’t worry about it too much! - we encountered it in places like the Gambia and Lome close to the crew hotels where the roadside vendors would approach you. We were easy targets! Most places are absolutely fine. Much bigger things to worry about. That said, it also explains why the chicken breast looks so huge when you buy it in the supermarket and then shrinks to a 1/3rd of its size when cooking it - the saltwater solution/plumbing effect. -

Traveller’s diarrhoea, food poisoning (Dukoral)

Will spare the life story version - and as experienced in a brutal way back in late 2019 in Chengdu; hotel air conditioning units. A hotbed for bacteria, mold and viruses if poorly maintained. The hotel staff in Chengdu -just before this COVID thing became a thing- shared that’s how bird-flu spread at the time in 2013. Room to room through aircon units. God I was ill at the time. Pain in the arse was that I was stopping via Bangkok on the way back to London and was seeing Lizzy regularly at the time. She was in a playful “take vids of me in the bathtub mood’ that night ….and was just lying there sweating myself through a fever. Stayed in a shittty Holiday Inn in Delhi last weekend courtesy of Putin block booking the whole ITC Maurya. 3 days later I find myself medicine shopping at Delhi’s domestic terminal before heading off to Chennai. That aircon unit would only work on full blast, and on a freezing setting. Clearly poorly maintained. Also, be wary of fruit in certain places, especially oranges etc. I have had some my crew in the past falling ill as the fruit was injected with (dirty) water to make it look more fresh/juicy (Accra, Banjul etc) 30 years in aviation and 200+ nights in hotels a year makes me go for a pizza these days (in certain places) without feeling any cultural shame. -

Burbrit? - if so, I really like that place. Great venue to watch sports and Otto bar only 20 yards away! -

Not necessarily answering your question, and don’t know how often or when you are in Bangkok…but below is my Christmas present to myself this year. Tickets not all that cheap, especially at the top end…the bookies have stopped taking bets on if he will play track 2 of his Skills in Pills album… -
This Saturday will be brutal @Genghis - forever in the Thai/Bangkok calendar there will be a pre and post Speedpool reference in any conversation that mentions time. People will talk about BS and SE (versus BC and CE/AD). In fact - this Friday could be our last supper…we will need 13 BM’s in total. We can call it….wait for it…Good Friday! I got a call from Glasgow City Council this morning, asking, based on their experience managing Celtic - Rangers games, if they could offer their support.

Hotel points

…writing this from said Hilton on Soi 24….and I confirm it’s 100% visitor friendly. It also connects to the Doubletree on Soi 26, has Emquartier and EMSPHERE on its doorstep, as well as a BTS stop. The only down side is that you may run into me. -
F**k me….what a great topic! Thank you @gainsbarre ! I am fully in that bracket now…teeth are shot to pieces, …but no way can I do anything about it back in Crawley. Please tie me into this conversation….or even getting it done (I have a mortal phobia of anyone looking into my mouth….)….

Top English Breakfast/Fry up places

I was in there as recent as early September. It actually owned by the same people that own JST Group - the building connected to it. Whenever we wrap up meetings there they take us next door -
To get the flavour! (before you go ‘out out’!) Google Mickey Flanagan

I know this adds very little to the conversation - but my method of madness is the value i get from the lounge access. Hilton on 22 is approx. £120 per night but with status i get lounge access. I estimate i drink (mainly) and eat £50 per session. So i got ‘the flavour’ before i go out-out.. That brings it down in my head to £70 a night, bargain! i also like the Park Plaza on 18, for £75 a night you can grt one of their 3 suites (vv large). The sofa/sitting area, office area and walk in shower just allows for more ‘diverse action’ and the option to keep the bed ‘sleepable’.

Hey team! I normally stay at the Hilton on Soi 24, but was considering trying the Conrad next month. Anyone got any experiences there they can share? Looks walkable from Nana area…any good? Cheers!
