  1. Looking at a possible trip early next year.

Checking on Skyscanner and due to the likelyhood of me moving to Brissie, Eva Air are pretty well priced. $965 AUD Brissie to BKK. Good flight times too.

I would like to go on my favorite,Singapore Air but they are another $350.00. I like them because they dont screw me for taking extra luggage.

Any one used Eva. I think they are ok?.

On Soi 11, the Solitaire is pretty good. I last stayed there in early 2020 right before Covid struck, and a renovation of the hotel had just been completed. Their beds are gigantic. I don't know what you call that size, but they are noticeably larger than king-size. I had a 3-some there with my girl and Nan from CIB, and we could have easily accommodated a 3rd LB.

Another option is Radisson Suites on Soi 13. The rooms are large and the housekeeping is meticulous. On the roof is a very good, quiet and uncrowded pool along with a full bar.  Relaxation-wise, you just can't beat a quiet hotel pool with a bar and bartender. The Indian restaurant downstairs serves upscale cuisine with a touch of elegance. I like that place.

I checked out the Solitaire. $100.00 AUD for a standard room. $66.00 USD. It is at the end of Soi 11 by the look of it. I guess you would have to ask the girls if they want to trek that far?:D

comfortable bed for pleasure and pleasures,

Good luck in finding a good bed. Only one that I have found was in Phuket some time ago.

I think beds in Thailand are made as a form of torture.

Or maybe just rooms worn and tired without renovation? :D First time I was in Grand Business Inn around 2006 and I remember was quite basic rooms.

Not at all. The Premier suite which I have booked is more than presentable and the staff I have found to be very friendly. Location is spot on. Great for lb watching from the outside seating area!.

  5. Just looking through some posts from 2013 re hotel costs.

The guy stated the room rates for the Grand Business Inn in Soi 11. One that I frequent quite often.

He quoted 2500 baht for the Grand Suite. I have been charged 1800 baht for a stay in August!. How is that for deflation?.

  6. Well I am booking my flights. Doing return fron Aussie to BKK. Then return BKK to TAO,(China).

    Man are our fares exy!.

$1300 to BKK with Thai. Now trying to sort out something that hooks up to the Thai flight without too much wait time. As the Thai flight arrives at 6.00am, there is not a lot to choose from until after midday. Think I will go Air Macau which goes via Macau with a 6 hour layover. All the flights to TAO have long layovers. Nothing direct. The fares by that route are anywhere from $660.00 to $1000.00 or more!!!. I will be carrying more than the standard allowable luggage volume. Never had a problem with Thai,(but that may change). Have no idea about the Chinese airlines. They may be more strict. About a week in TAO then back to BKK for a bit of slap and tickle

So $2000.00AUD in total at least, depending on the luggage scenario. On my trip in May, I got slugged $500.00 by that tinpot airline in Italy after Etihad charged nothing from Aus to Italy.

If the lb's in BKK don't perform after spending that much, they will hear about it!!!

The hotel got two entrances. Main entrance can be a bit tricky to find at first. It's in a small alley, the first alley to your right once you enter Soi 8. You will have a few restaurants on your right and left side. A massage shop just opposite of the entrance to the hotel. Trucks, and cars are usually blocking the way to drop off stuff to the restaurants. The second entrance is open until 7pm. It's facing sukhumvit, but you have to walk through a tailor shop. I find it a little bit awkward. It's next to Nang seeda.

Nothing special about the hotel itself. I do think it's great value for the money. The windows have frosted glass, so you can't really see anything outside but it brings in enough light. Rooms are spacious and you get everything you could ask for. What i didnt like was the shower, it has some awkward controls. No problem to bring guests to the room, never asked for ID of the guest. Location of the hotel is great, price is good for what you get. I would repeat staying here again.

Yep, I booked it for a business collegue and I had one about 100 metres away to give me some wiggle room!!!

I have been going to Thailand yearly since 1999. I have flown USA-Korea-Bangkok; USA-Japan-Bangkok; USA-Hongkong-Bangkok; USA-Manila-Bangkok; USA-Singapore-Bangkok. Long ago, I discovered EVA Air and they have been my regular airline since 2007 and I LOVE them. However, with all of the "saber rattling" over Taiwan, I am actually afraid to fly any airline that goes down thru or near Taiwan. I am about ready to begin planning my next trip from the east coast of USA to BKK and I am considering flying to Europe and on to BKK. I would like to hear from anyone with the same concern that I have and if you go east out of the USA, which airline do you fly and what route (with stops) do you take. Thanks.

I think you should be more scared of the trip to the airport by car than any plane trip you might take.

Question on general taxi fares in BKK nowadays.

It used to be a taxi from Asoke to Suvarnabhumi was about B280-B300 excluding the Tolls (B75).
Few weeks ago I was there and the meter seemed to be out of control. I mentioned to the driver when still halfway there, that it shouldn't already be reading over B300. I got the old "my english no good". I insisted and insisted and eventually at the airport, while the meter was showing B615, he said "Okay Okay, B500 okay".
I paid him, only because on the way I'd texted a mate that lives in BKK to ask about rate to the airport and he came back with "Oh around B600" which I thought was nuts. When I asked if fares had suddenly jumped, he replied "Ahh you could be right, yeah that seems a lot". So I was then confused, had a flight to catch, so paid him the B500.

Anyway, have fares in BKK gone up that much? Last time I had been there was pre-COVID, but the fares had been pretty standard (apart from the odd increase), for many years.
It could be that fares really have gone up, or maybe now that tourists are back, taxis are just taking the piss again.

I know this post is an older one but the fare at the time you posted was 400 baht. 500 if you booked via the hotel

Landed yesterday at BKK Saturday 10am

7 minutes to walk from plane to immigration.

    3 minutes through immigration

10 minutes to wait for my bag and bang in a taxi. No queues at immigration

Taxi took just over 45 minutes from Old Swampy to Sukhumvit Soi 13, a bit of traffic on the highway. Taxi cost 275 Baht plus 2 tolls, 25 and 50 baht.

    Good to be back!

Well, how many times have you scored since you got there??:D

  11. I had the Galleria 10 booked for a few days during my upcoming trip. Just received a rewards coupon from airbnb so have booked what looks like a very nice condo for a few nights. Pool etc.. (Will cancel the hotel).

Close to CIB so that is a bonus. I do wonder if the girls are impressed by an expensive room?. Maybe as long as the place is clean and the bed is good, that is all the matters. Oh, along with the money!.

Very close to Cabbages and Condoms. Anybody been there?. Some guy in a review said they give out condoms????. They are also LBGT etc friendly.

It’s a Shocker LJ …I thought it would have calmed down a bit since the world started getting back to some thing like normal ish … I have a flight that I watching for November it’s all over the shop … £115 up one day £2 down the next … let’s hope it’s not the new norm eh !

Yeah. On the flipside, I could have got a much cheaper one with some obscure airline such as Indigo for a lot less, but who knows, you might get stuck in Mumbai for 3 days.

My flight is with ITA to Frankfurt and Thai to BKK. Booked that one because I might have had to cart a lot of luggage with me and they have a good luggage allowance, but that seems unlikely now thank goodness.

  13. Just for interest sake I checked the fare, Rome to BKK that I booked about 6 weeks ago. Has gone up from $820 AUD to $1112 AUD. Blimmin heck!.

Thats nearly 3 shags worth, or 2 shags and LDs.

I rate Hyatt Regency, not as the best hotel but the best location (for mongers), on corner of Soi 13 Sukhumvit. Price around 7000 THB per night depending on season. I have seen it cheaper but 7K seems to be the average. Suites go for 13,000 THB per night. Great buffet breakfast, nice swimming pool and gym on level 6 and very cool rooftop bar. I have stayed at Park Hyatt (over 16,000Thb per night for standard room) which was very nice but not the same awesome location as Hyatt Regency.

Hyatt Regency is a very nice 5 star hotel. 1 minutes walk to Soi 11 with heaps of restaurants to choose from, and Cindy's Secret.

450 meters - 4 minutes walk to Check-in Bar. 8 minutes walk to Nana Entertainment Plaza, 9 minutes walk to Soi Cowboy. 2 minutes walk to Nana BTS if you want to venture out around Bangkok.

Street walkers (GG and LB) right out the front most nights.

When I stay there I very rarely venture further than 450 meters!

Or Sofitel, just on next block past Soi 13. I have not stayed there but still great location.

I take it that the bath got moved when you were chasing her around the room?.

When I landed early afternoon last Friday the arrivals area was extremely busy. I didn’t have too much of a difficulty navigating things though. My only issue was that I didn’t change any money near the baggage claim. A. It was too busy and B. I thought I read that there were better rates on the lower level. But once I got to the taxi level I couldn’t find any exchanges and my bank card didn’t work in the ATMs. Luckily I had enough THB in my pocket from last trip to pay the taxi

Yes, you have to go down to the long ramp down to the train station. Quite a few down there.

  16. Well after much thought and deliberation, I have made an executive decision. After doodling around and finally booking Grand Business Inn, I have decided to make a change. Will spend the last night at Galleria on Suk 10, not far from CIB. Galleria has a pool. Would be nice to just chill out and relax.

Anyway the plan centres around spending time with a few girls, maybe 2 or 3, Lily being one of them over the first 4 nights I am in BKK. Those few nights will be at Grand Business, then down to Pattaya for a few nights, then back to BKK for the last day and night before I am off to Saigon. I really want to go out with a bang, so plan to make it something to remember.

If I prearrange it can I pay the bar fine and take the girl to my hotel around 2pm, before CIB opens?. Take her out to dinner etc, then maybe back to CIB for a few hours, before retiring back to the room for some gymnastics. Breakfast in the morning then off to the airport. Another trip over.
