Firefox has a "don't use cache" option. Computers are always logging your activities too, like last file worked on, and a host of other stuff. So as a total solution, TAILS is the most secure. It's overkill for most people....I use linux so many of these problems are easily circumvented using log wipers, cache cleaners, etc. Windows is harder to sanitize. TAILS is linux based, and doesn't need Windows to run.

Thai internet is still way behind the western world in reliability and speed, IMO. But yes, it's possible to get hooked up and works (most of the time). But the country badly needs an infrastructure upgrade. And it's very over priced for what they deliver, like DTAC: $18 a month for a 3G service that gets you a few gigabytles of data, and then drops down to EDGE data speeds (eg 200kb/sec) when you reach the limit. I'm mostly a bottom. I had a bad experience with LB and her local condom: it broke. So now I offer them one of mine. The trouble is, like Cinderella and the magic shoe, you don't know which one fits. I've heard that tight condoms paradoxically have a tendency to slip off. I could off course get a range of sizes and present my lady with them, asking her to chose the right one. I would never trust Thai water outside Bangkok. I brush my teeth with it regularly and rinse out my mouth, but for drinking, it's foul stuff (worse than swimming pool water). I suppose the Thais decided that it wouldn't do for international investors arriving in Bangkok to get violently ill from brushing their teeth. Depends on what the nasties are. Bacteria are simple organisms and can be adapted to over time. Parasites, which are much more complex, are another matter. Apparently they can't be adapted to. It's estimated that over half the population of Guatemala permanently has Giardia, a common parasite. It hangs around forever, constant diarrhea, weakness...very nasty. And no help because most people can't afford the antibiotics to treat it. Another aspect of say, well water, is the possibility of chemical pollution. Much of the ground water in India is polluted with mercury, lead, and other poisons. Ceramic filters can filter all this shit out of course, along with any living organisms, but they cost.

I think you're thinking of "S21". I've been there--the electrodes hooked up to the metal frame beds, the waterboarding pools...not a pretty sight. Upstairs is even more grisly in a different way, with pictures (then and now) of the guards who did the torturing. What makes it interesting is how they try to explain away their actions. The Nazis were very aware that asking a middle aged officer in the field in Russia for example, especially if he was a father to shoot down families and children would destroy him as a soldier from there on. They found this out quickly (soldiers called in sick for the firing squads) and shipped the people they were going to kill all the way back to Germany, Austria, and Poland, where the young Nazis could do the work without any guilt.

Right. To be sure that the vaccinations did any good you need to get the blood test for Hep B antibodies. The interesting thing about vaccination in general (which my Brit doc in Phenom Penh told me) is that if you suffer a massive attack of something you've been successfully vaccinated against, the vaccinations won't save you from getting the disease. The vaccinations only work if you are exposed to the disease in the usual way (eg with Hep B by sex), that is: in low numbers. If you were exposed to say, an injection of Hep B virus (ie much larger concentration), you'd get the disease whether you'd been successfully vaccinated or not. Not to be alarmed of course. This scenario isn't likely, but it's interesting because it reveals the nature and limitations of vaccination.

That's really tough. Fortunately, my doctor advised me to get the Hep B series of 3 shots for (supposedly) lifetime protection (though I guess you need to get tested after 10 years or so to make sure there are enough Hep B antibodies still present in your blood). The main way people get it is sexual contact. Hep C is fortunately much more difficult to catch.

My last and only STD was back in 1970, crabs. Crabs were pretty endemic in the San Francisco area. It was a bit of an ordeal to get rid of them though: take a shower and coat yourself with this crab shampoo all over, don't rinse it off, and leave the shampoo on for a full 24 hours. Ok, but then clean all your clothes, boil your sheets, etc. I remember the crabs especially because I'd just started a new job, was sitting around the training table for new workers, and I noticed a leetle crab (the things are tiny) walking across the table.
