Yeah, every year, when they release their promotion, you have to book within a few days of it going live, the good thing is that you can book well in advance of the promotional period.

    Heaven@4 (updated 2013)

Thanks very much for taking the time to review the place. Im very interested in having a look at this place if there are no deals ongoing with the nearby 4/5 star hotels. That oversized shower head looks amazing for the morning after the night before to freshen up with Wow, you met up with the famous Juri. I hope he is keeping well. Tell him LULT says hello if you see him again. Cheers and thanks again.

Newbies will love this, as well as seasoned mongers. Only prob is, when you stay somewhere not so great on future visits, it can make you feel you wish you were back at the Grand Suk ! I think you will find that that the deal is on standard rooms. There are two towers in this hotel and one tower is better than the other. However, everytime I've stayed here (3 times now), I put an email into them saying its a special occasion and ask to be put on a upgrade list if possible. Give them a phone a couple of days before you arrive and remind them (upgrades are decided on the day of check-in). Then get into them again when you check-in. Its really worth it as the suites are superb. For me, it just makes the whole BKK experience so much more amazing. I've had multiple guests back at one time and no need for joiners. One could say that the downside is that they don't take your guests ID card. I've heard through a couple of forums that they have received emails from the hotel saying they charge 1000 baht per guest/joiner, but this is bollocks. I also read on a forum where a duty manager tried to blag a joiner fee from someone and the farang said he would take his name and verify that Accor group are charging their guests 1000 baht to have prostitutes in their premises. This was quickly reversed and the duty manager didn't bother him again. I've stayed in this place for a total of about 6 weeks now, and I've never seen anyone being approached or charged a joiner. The great things is there is a 7/11 next door to the hotel, so easy to stock up on cheap supplies There is also a good laundry further up the lane (away from Soi 4). As you come out the hotel, turn right, walk past the wee food vendor and turn right down a dead-end alleyway. About the third house on the right is a great laundry service. The gym in the hotel is ample. Hope you get booked, you will love it. Cheers LULT

Just got an email from Accor Group. The deals are on again for this group. 50% off rates if you make the booking within the next few days. Ibis at Soi 4 is 750 baht per night Grand Sukhumvit Soi 6 is 1750 baht per night. Outstanding price for this 5 star guest friendly hotel

PM and Add as Friend Icons

Its a wee bit like your "Warn Status". Members can see their own warn status (dont worry...EVERYONE is a zero %), but only Mods can see them also. No one else can see someone elses (terribly described I know, but I hope you get the drift). On the other side of this rationale, you can only see everyone elses, "Add me", or "PM me" icon, cos what is the point of adding yourself as a friend? Fair question though as I bet if you were wondering, I bet someone else was. Cheers LULT

Ibis Nana Soi 4 (updated 2013)

Thanks for the reviews on this guys. Ive considered this for the last couple of years and will probably stay here one day. However, every time Im just about to book, one of the 5 star places does an unbelievable deal that is too good to refuse, so book elsewhere. This place seems a safe pair of hands as a back burner if there are no other deals about. Cheers LULT

    Hep-B

Wow, really sorry to hear the sad loss of your brother mate and your stark warning of catching blood bourne diseases from social activities. Do you mind me asking how you caught Hep B? If its something other than mongering, please dont feel obliged to answer on the forum. I understand it may be a private matter. I personally am always careful about Hep B courses and booster checks. It was explained to me by my STI clinic that HIV is a very fragile virus, in that, within seconds of being out of its blood/fluid system, it will die, however, Hep B infected blood can remain active and transferrable, even a couple of hours later in dried blood secretions. What are the symptoms you suffered as a result of Hep B mate and how did you know you had it?? Thanks again for your frank and honest post. Cheers LULT

Hotel in Bkk that dont charge extra for more than one guest

I've never had this problem in Bangkok. I've had multiple partners back at the same time and all hotels have been cool about this, ranging from 2 to 5 star. Citi Chic Soi 13 Suk Road Grand Sukhumvit, Soi 6 Suk Rd Nap-Inn, Soi 4, Suk Rd.

    Ipad

I think Apple have done an amazing bit of retail to creating a new market in the mobile net viewer/media player. I played with one of them in the Apple Store and they are sexy as hell. I think Apple needs to do something about viewing vids. I have the iphone 4 which, I swear I would happily have carnal knowledge with if the earphones hole was larger, but I don't use it at home as its easier to do stuff on the net with my MacBook. I would happily buy the iPad if I could surf and view net vids and just use the laptop when it is really necessary. The other concern I had was if Im out and about, say having a coffee or killing time somewhere, Im happy surfing the net with the iPhone as no one can see what Im doing, however, nosy feckers could easily see the stuff Im looking at if I was on an iPad. I'll definitely get one though as they are just too lovely to not have one

    Boutique Hotels

Terry Tibbs recommended me a place at Soi 13 Suk Rd called Citi Chic Boutique Hotel. It was first class recommendation. I shared a twin room with my mate and we were having multiple guests on rotation, sometimes two or three changes a day. The staff didn't bat and eyelid and there was no issue having all these people in the one room throughout the day. I absolutely love this area of Suk Road. Spice Club (can't remember its new name) is just a 2 minute walk and Bed Supper Club and Q Bar and 4 mins. Its about a 8-10 minute walk up to Suk Rd, but they will give you a free Tuk Tuk ride from the hotel to main roads/BTS anytime. There is always something going on in this part of the BKK and is great for people watching if you are wandering about nursing a hangover. Tim at Thai Hotel Discounts gets an outstanding deal that he has specifically negotiated with them. I think he is the main independent agent for this hotel, so they will normally cater to his every request (such as my mate was an early check-in .......4am !!! and that was accommodated without extra charge!) Nice little roof-top pool and gym to sweat out the alcohol. My biggest tip is to never book the Terraced room. Its more expensive and a smaller room that the standard room. All you get is a balcony with no view, but a smaller bed area. The bathrooms are great with a huge rose head shower into the glass unit. Sweet Pics courtesy of TT's thread on Pattaya Ladyboys site.

    Accor Grand Sukhumvit (Formerly Sofitel)

I wouldn't get toooo upset by this (I hope!) When I first stayed there a couple of years ago, I too asked them this question and was given the "1000 baht guest charge" by email. I think this is a 'we would prefer not to have mongers as customers', cos when I arrived a month later, I was bringing loads of guests back for one on ones and 3ways most nights and the reception did not challenge me at all. I have read on-line somewhere that a manager did try to intervene with a guest asking for this elusive 1000 baht charge and the customer challenged him saying he wanted an official receipt on their headed paper to say EXACTLY what it was for. He said he was going to right to the CEO's of Accor about this 1000 baht charge. The manager quickly backed down saying he would let it go and no charge for guest for the customer ! The theory was for this was that Accor are a global company and has a corporate policy for all hotels, thus, no deviation by its local management to earn a quick buck to charge for prostitutes/casual guests. Its just not cricket for a company like that. I was also there in March 2010 and took a girl back, again.....no pom pem Fingers crossed that it remains as, like Up2You, is my favourite hotel in Bangkok, possibly Thailand.

Thats a very good point mate. I think if you don't get the free upgrade, then the standard price is not exactly worth it. If you get the upgrade, its a steal ! Obviously you will not know until check-in, so its always a gamble. However, to put it into perspective, I've stayed 5 times and been upgraded......5 times. I always travel fairly well dressed (but not shirt and tie obviously!) and am really friendly and polite at check in - for obvious upgrade reasons 3 of the times I've stayed were during the promotion time, so for well under 2000 baht and getting a junior suite, it just beggars belief the value for money.

    Amazing Looking New Model

I've had an iPhone since there weedy 2G one was released. It now feels like the son I never had Seriously, it would take a lot for me to switch as I now have bought into Brand Apple! As for unsolicited data, the only prob I've had was when I first took it abroad. Actually, it was just across the water the Republic of Ireland (abroads as per O2 is concerned) and was charged (or at least they TRIED to charge) me £110 for receiving one email !?!?! This was cos I stupidly left, "Data Roaming" switched to "YES". Big mistake. I disputed it and said that this function is buried at the bottom of a pile of settings and why should the default be set to "Yes"?? Surely the default is "No" and if you want to cut your children off from any inheritance that may have been left, then select "Yes" if you go abroad. Well, I got the famous, "As a gesture of good will" pish, but I was credited with the £110. After that, I had no probs with extra data as I have always had Data Roaming switched off. Apple and O2 have since amended the default Roaming settings to "No" after thousands of complaints. I remember seeing a consumers rights programme in the UK called Watchdog highlighted this problem and a guy who went on holiday with his family to Spain took his mobile with him and left it in a drawer in case there were any emergencies at home. All this time, he was receiving email after email and was none the wiser about "data roaming' charges. His next bill came in at £11,000 in data roaming fees !?!?! So I have no issues at all with iPhones in respect of unsolicited data being received. 14 sleeps and I'll be at the Apple Store for an iPhone 4

    Tap Water

I never drink the stuff, but always brush my teeth from the tap. Ive done this in Laos/Cambo/Vietnam/LOS and never had any huge issues. The way I see it is we are all consuming the water in some way, be it washed plates with dribbles left on, ice in your drinks (apparently the big western companies McD's KFC have purified iced water - but I doubt the bars pay for such a premium ice cube!) I suppose with the law of averages, Im due for an infection some time from this after 17 years of SE Asian mongering with no water-borne bugs

One thing I would say about Singapore Airlines is the outstanding food you get. I remember on my last flight I was sitting next to a 30-something British couple (im from the UK, so I can say this !) and what a pair of moaning feckers they were. Anyways, we get the main meal which was "Steak". I opened the foil thinking, this has got to be rubberised shit. I opened it up and a thick piece of tender moist medium, but with a perfect touch of pink in the middle, chargrilled steak. I like to treat myself with nice restaurants from time to time and I kid you not, the quality was up there with a great restaurants. I was so impressed that I was JUST about to make a sarcastic remark to the couple saying, "I think mines is just a little over-done for my liking, do you think they will re-cook mine?", I kid you not, the next second before I opened my mouth, the woman was complaining to the air steward saying, "There is no way Im eating this, Its terrible". She wasn't a veggy or anything. Remeber, this was in the Economy Class and she, like me, had paid only £325 return at their promotional rate. Some people eh !

Best airline I ever flew on was Qatar. However, I've also flown with the other UAE based flight companies (Emirates and Etihad) all of whom have been superb quality. Eva is so-so, but at least it normally cheap and generally have I no complaints. I went with SIngapore Airlines this year on the big Airbus A380. I'm 6'2" and just couldn't get comfortable. My shins couldnt slot in under the seat in front like the regular sized long-haul aircraft I've been on, so was always a bit disjointed and out of shape.

    Visa cost

The vast majority of 1st world countries have a free 30 day 'entry' visa if you fly, 15 (I think?) if you walk in through a border. The Thai Govt has frozen all visa fees for a tourist multi-entry (3 entries max), but you need to apply to your local Thai Embassy/Consulate for this type of visa and they will charge you about £10 admin fee for arranging this.
