Must be a system wide problem because the sister site ladyboyspattaya.com is apparently also not running smoothly and BMs there have reported similar problems (no email notifications, double posts, long upload time...).

The admins are aware of the problems:

    Thanks

OK this must mean that the 2 sites share the same SQL DB, which makes sense.

If that is the case, then a great new feature that they should implement is to create mirror images of the relevant topics, so that they can be updated and displayed by either site, rather than having 2 separate BKK folders, which contain different information.

Just a suggestion and obviously job 1 is to first fix both sites!

Is it just me who has experienced technical issues with this site since Saturday or has anyone else also been affected?

I've seen SQL errors and unwanted double and triple postings. Also I apparently don't see anymore when a thread has been updated...

    ???

    Thanks :-)

Has anyone else be suffering from the dreaded fatal error code 403?

I have been getting this message most of today when I tried to access the site.

Not pleasant, I was starting to wonder if I had been banned? LOL.

    It is isn't just you.

I've had prolonged times to upload a comment. (Minutes rather than seconds). Then when it has finally uploaded, it appears 2-3 times.

Also, as you point out, its not possible to see when a thread has been updated with a new comment, as previous posters are still appearing as the last post.

So in summary, it isn't just you, its system-wide.

How can you know that its the main hotel or the annex? do the annex has a different name?

That's the strange thing, both buildings have the same address and so the only way to avoid ending up in the annex is to state upfront that you want to be in the main building.

I have been in the annex once and it wasnt terrible, but the main building is better and this is where breakfast is served, so its more convenient.

Hahahah I had something similar a few months ago at Radisson Blu. I was waiting for a guest to arrive and I'd been fcking around with notes in my pocket and then placed the payment in the bedside table for later. I'd intended to get some extra towels and took B100 out of my wallet and shoved that in my pocket as a tip for the cleaning lady. Then I locked away all my valuables in the room safe. Anyway, I asked for the towels, minute or so later there's a knock at the door, I accept the towels, I then pass the cleaning lady the folded up tip. Her eyes go as wide as dinner plates, which I thought was weird, but just shrugged it off. I had a hard cock due to arrive soon, so had other things on my mind. Guest arrives, deed done, make payment, guest leaves.

I'm standing there looking at the tv, slip my hand in my shorts pocket, pull out my B100 tip for the cleaning lady. I'm very confused at this point, "Why do I still have B100 in my pocket?", I say to myself.

Go to the safe, grab my wallet and quickly realised I'd palmed her B1,000........and immediately her surprised face popped into my head. I had a good chuckle about it, what can you do? Nothing, just learn from you rsilly error.

She was obviously extremely grateful for the large tip, as when I came back to my room after lunch the following day I discovered that she'd  left me 14 bottles of water!!
    Again lots of chuckles.

I'm glad to see that its not just me and that was a funny story.

In the end its just USD 30, so its not worth sweating over and I bet the maid told her family all about the very generous hi so farang that night, so its great that you made her day!

Thanks for the story, it was a great one to chuckle over, as I could see myself doing exactly the same thing!

    Paradiso Hotel

2 weeks ago. The building next door is obviously now being completely refurbished (the one with the green building protection or whatever that is):

    IMG_20190219_115334.jpg

The building next door is now completely gutted and you can actually walk through the ground floor as a short cut to get to CIB, if you don't want to take the first or second sois.

"Cozy at Ten" advertises itself now as an "Entertainment Complex" and promises massage and karaoke in Korean writing (Korea Town is nearby). Also says "room available." But I don't know if they still operate as a "normal" hotel or not.

    IMG_20190213_130557.jpg

    Hey there Thanks

From what I heard from the girls at CIB a few months back it has now transformed into a karaoke bar and knocking shop focused on the Koreans.

So unless any BM wants to rent a room by the hour and also use to ear plugs to drown out the dulcet tones of 'sararymen' knocking out My Way on the hour, every hour, then its probably not appropriate for a farang as an accommodation option.

    Hey there Manga

I've seen 2 in 10 years of visiting.

One was a bright yellow/green one down by the canal path at the end of soi 15 and the other was a python in Chatuchak Park.

But saying that, Oliver is right, the soi dogs and rats are a lot more prevalent!

Your biggest risk will be some of the two-legged sharks you may encounter.

Sorry SAG got to disagree quite forcefully here on points  1 and 2.

I write from the perspective of someone who lives in the Australian bush and snake bites here are a fairly common occurence.

If someone tried to kill a snake after being bitten they will in all likelihood be bitten again this double or trebles the amount of venom in their system. Couple this with the effort of trying to kill the thing and the person has a real good chance of dying or being very very sick for a very long time.

Tourniquets are a big no no, a compression bandage or wide strip of clothshould be used. The person should be kept CALM and the wound left unwashed so that the snake can be identified.

The following site run by the Australian government gives some good protocolshttps://www.healthdirect.gov.au/snake-bites

i think the average monger has about as much chance of being bitten by a snake in bkk as being mugged by a visiting martian.

Be careful what you pass on as truth, it could end up with someone dying.

No black mambas here but a good variety of other nasties. I have always found that by leaving them alone they leave you alone. The vast majority of snake bites here are caused by people trying to kill them.

Sorry to ramble on but I think it’s important that people have the right information in this case.

    Hey there Geronimo

You are most probably right, but I was just repeating what we were taught in basic training many years ago. Saying that, like many things in that military it was probably wrong!

Lol... get your alternator and tooth fixed while you get a haircut lol

The whole snake thing made me curious as to why they’d have snakes at a medical facility and did some quick research on the Queen Saovabha facility and it appears as though the institute is the second largest snake anti venom facility in the world and a leading research institute.

If I go there for my extra vaccines, I’ll definitely check out the snakes!

    Manga

They milk the venom from the snakes to produce the antidotes.

Top tip 1 - if you ever get bitten by snake - first thing is to try and kill it and then take it and yourself to the hospital pronto. Only when they can actually ID the snake can they know which ant-venom course they should use. Unfortunately there isn't a single antidote to all snake bites.

Top tip 2 - tie a tourniquet around the part that has been bitten to slow down the spread of the poison within your blood stream.

Top tip 3 - if you get bitten by a Black Mamba - make sure you get to the hospital within 30 minutes maximum!

Get yourself a late night coffee at Holly's SAG, always a good sprinkling of talent....not completely Freelancers as the gogo's girls often head for there after shift. coffee is better than average also.

    Thanks Taas

I know Holly's well as its the best place to stop for a coffee in that area. I have also passed it late at night, but never been in then. If I have to resort to Plan B, I'll give it a go around the changing of the shift time.

It adds new meaning to "would you like a shot with your coffee sir?"

Forgive me if already mentioned but with so many BM's heading out next month I have three favourite places for good food at sensible prices.

1, Just at the begining of Soi 3/1 you will find this old time classic street food style restaurant...it is fair to say that it is spit and saw dust but it does superb fresh food

and with an astonishing choice of fayre. Prices are really cheap in the 100-150 baht range. The table arrangements are communal but don't be put off as the food and fruit shakes are superb

2, The Bus stop restaurant on soi 4, same side as hooters and around 50 meters further down. Good mid-range choices of Euro/Thai food with decent service. Plenty of seating and a decent place to go with your partner of choice without breaking the 1000 baht level.

3, I know that The Dick spoke glowingly about eateries in Khao San Road, I went over there for old times sake to see if any of the old haunts from the 1980/90's were still around.

Not much of them places left but the eateries there are excellent and abundant....superb value in comparison to Sukhumvit and a nice change of scene.

    Thanks for the suggestions Taas.

One of my favourite things about BKK is eating at recommended street food places that dont result in the Aztec Two-step.

Cammy also had a great suggestion and I've been to that place just up soi 11 for noodles with quite a few of the LBs after their shifts end and prior to loom escapades.

A great additional go-to I like to use during the day is the 24 hour restaurant at the New Business Inn on Soi 11, thats always a decent place for low cost and it has AC.

And here’s another clinic with pricing info:

    https://www.thaitravelclinic.com/cost.html

Thanks for all the info Manga, these prices are very low and also some of the vaccines cant be found in many countries, e.g. Japanese Encephalitis.

Make sure that you use an international inoculations book, which you normally get with a Yellow Fever jab, as that can then be used like a log book and so its easy for them to work out what you have had and when.

Definitely make sure you get the Typhoid jab. I caught that in Ghana from forgetting to use bottled water to brush my teeth one morning and was man down for a month.

Great info, thanks for taking the time, I never thought of using the CDC website and the HPV suggestion is also something I hadn't thought of.

Im heading to bkk this month and still pretty nervous about this tbh. I got it once before from oral and really worried about catching this super strain. I always use protection but not with oral. And i enjoy oral :( hopefully im just being paranoid.

I'd look at the final paragraph of Jonard's post, which puts it into perspective.

You have a higher risk of your plane going down than catching it.

Dont be daft, take all sensible precautions, but dont let the fear of the risk ruin your experience.

The riskiest part of your trip is the car journey to and from the airports. Then its the flight. The lowest risk is the actual mongering!

    Hi SAG,

Yes, I got my Hep A and B a few years ago but I haven’t gotten some of the other recommended travel vaccines. I am shooting to get them early next week before I am in LOS in mid-feb but in case I am not able to as I have a hectic travel schedule, I was thinking of doing it in BKK. Though, per my research it makes most sense to do vaccinations 7-21 prior to going on a trip to provide a full immune response, the body does produce antibodies almost immediately after a vaccination so there is some level of protection.

    Hey there manga

I travel a lot and mainly to third world rat holes so have to get a full course for everything.

You are right, it does make sense to get them before, as they take a while to kick-in.

One that I wouldn't overlook is rabies. If you get bitten by an infected soi dog, it can ruin your day and also the cure is a LOT worse than the prevention! It takes 2 shots and a booster, but the first 2 are 6 weeks apart so if you get the first before you go, you can then get the second when you return.

Another easily overlooked one is tetanus, which is a good idea for cuts etc.

I looked up the clinic that you mentioned and I was pretty impressed, it looks very professional and seems to specialise in our 'niche'. I am going to go there not for innoculations, but to get some tests, as the packages they have look pretty comprehensive.

Thanks for the heads-up on that one.

    Cheers

    OMG!

I was considering a trip to BKK either in 2 weeks time (avoiding the general elections on 24 March) or actually in mid-March...

So better wait until the rainy season sets in again? Or booking a flight but don't bother with a hotel with a pool let alone a rooftop bar?

Thanks SAGuy, Ropey, BGSC & taaseesanuk!

    Hi Thanks

I think the election date may have slipped again, but don't know for sure.

If this continues, then I'd probably plan on more indoor pursuits...

There is too many decent street level bars to be worried about finding rooftop ones at ridiculous prices.

If you want an amazing rooftop skyline view go to Manhattan!

    Taas

You are right as usual, but now you are thinking like a farang bloke!

The opportunity for selfies  (i.e. face points) is much greater on a roof top and that's why the Thai LBs love them as a destination. The farang who is needless to say paying USD 20+ for a watered down cocktail is less impressed.

I took some chums to the Sky Bar on my last trip and they went missing for at least 30 minutes as they were in a selfie frenzy. Well that's how they explained the absence, who knows?

    Thanks for the info Boomerang.

For some reason I never consider any hotels above soi 19, but as you say, its a good back-up plan.

The great thing about the Citadines chain is that you know what to expect, as each room tends to be copy/paste from the other properties.
