It's been a couple years since this post has been updated. Any other VPN or private web browsing recommendations while in LOS?

They milk the venom from the snakes to produce the antidotes.
Top tip 1 - if you ever get bitten by snake - first thing is to try and kill it and then take it and yourself to the hospital pronto. Only when they can actually ID the snake can they know which ant-venom course they should use. Unfortunately there isn't a single antidote to all snake bites.
Top tip 2 - tie a tourniquet around the part that has been bitten to slow down the spread of the poison within your blood stream.
Top tip 3 - if you get bitten by a Black Mamba - make sure you get to the hospital within 30 minutes maximum!
Cheers

Good advice SAG but holy crap... didn't realize BKK had such a huge snake problem...

I am going to have to do a thorough check of the toilets...

LOL typical Thailand - get your injections done and check out the snake farm out back once youre done. My barber also runs a dentistry from the same chair, if I asked him to replace my cars alternater, he probably would.
Lol... get your alternator and tooth fixed while you get a haircut lol
The whole snake thing made me curious as to why they’d have snakes at a medical facility and did some quick research on the Queen Saovabha facility and it appears as though the institute is the second largest snake anti venom facility in the world and a leading research institute.
If I go there for my extra vaccines, I’ll definitely check out the snakes!Ropey reacted to this -

Here’s a good article on folks opting to getting vaccinations in BKK.

And here’s the link to the clinic it the article:

What other vaccinations do you think you need? Hep a and b is all i haveSent from my SM-J510FN using Tapatalk
The CDC errs on the side of caution so there’s a whole list they recommend:
https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/thailand
I’d say from my research that the HPV vaccine is also important to have. Prevents getting genital warts.
The other info I’ve come across that I find completely mind boggling is that most travel vaccinations are not covered by insurance companies in the USA/Canada. And if you get the whole course of recommended vaccines per the CDC, it’ll set you back at least $1000.
Luckily, they’re all relatively inexpensive in BKK and many travelers get them while in BKK.
I will most likely get the vaccines that I can next week in the home country and whatever I miss (and if there’s time) I’ll get in BKK.

Hey there Manga
Wouldn't it make more sense to get the jabs in your home country before you get to LOS?
Cheers

Hi SAG,
Yes, I got my Hep A and B a few years ago but I haven’t gotten some of the other recommended travel vaccines. I am shooting to get them early next week before I am in LOS in mid-feb but in case I am not able to as I have a hectic travel schedule, I was thinking of doing it in BKK. Though, per my research it makes most sense to do vaccinations 7-21 prior to going on a trip to provide a full immune response, the body does produce antibodies almost immediately after a vaccination so there is some level of protection. -
Any recommendations for a vaccine clinic? So far, I am aware of:
Pulse Clinic
Dr. Donna
Any others?
Thanks!

Good article. Will talk to my doc about TRT.

I also went to the neighboring Citrus Suites hotel for breakfast because I prefer buffet spreads over "a-la-carte" as I like sampling different items. Also, buffets usually are less expensive than eating a-la-carte from the menu, particularly when you want your brekkie to be a substitute for your lunch.
The neighboring Citrus Suites hotel offers its above average breakfast buffet, as you've correctly stated already, for 250 Baht to non-hotel guests which is a steal IMO.
They have a good variety there, from cold cuts, fruits, pastry, grilled tomatoes to excellent hot and spicy Asian items. They also have an egg station. The beverages you get are from coffee and juice machines. As long as they have enough space for their own hotel guests, you should be able to get a table if you're staying at the Dynasty Grande or at the Phachara Suites.
Official closing time is 10:30 am by the way.
Thx Thanks!

Don't mind if I do! That's some solid advice Minmdusa... I am definitely gonna do that.

Some of these places are magnificent. I'll see if I can visit a couple of rooftop bars during my stay and take me, myself and I there.... yeah, I know... I am selfish... lol

Ok thanks Flipflops, SAG and Mikel, I'll definitely try to set it up at the airport.
As I ordered a pick up service for my arrival at the airport, they'll be waiting to pick me up as I make my way to the main arrivals area. I'll see if the driver is willing to wait while I get my SIM card set up.... otherwise, I'll go to Terminal 21 and I believe there's a DTAC store on the 6th floor.

Got a response back from DG reservation department:
“We are sorry for the late response.
Please be advised that we do not have buffet in the restaurant and breakfast is in a la carte.
Regards,
Reservation Department.” -
Their desks are right in front of you as you exit immigration. The queues move quickly - just hand them your phone, passport and the cash you want to spend.
Thanks Mikel.
Quick question... my memory is fuzzy from a couple years ago. Upon exiting immigration will I have picked up my bags from the carousel? Or can I go to these cell phone counters before getting my bags. Thx -
Is it possible to pick up one of these DTAC Tourist SIM Cards from any of the 7/11's in and around NEP? Or do I have to get registered at one of their counters?
https://www.dtac.co.th/en/prepaid/products/tourist-sim.html
Thx.

Just booked the Dynasty Grande via Agoda for mid-Feb and noticed a check box for Mozio ground transportation from Suvarnabhumi to DG for $11 USD. I ticked it and paid for it. Has anyone else tried Mozio from the airport to their hotel while in BKK?
I typically take a taxi but last time I was in town, the lines were huge and it took me almost 90 minutes to get one. So I am looking at alternative modes of transportation...

Are there any prohibitions on traveling with condoms, sex toys, etc. in LOS. In particular, when flying in from another country. These items would be for personal use.
-
How's the breakfast spread at DG? Is it buffet style? Is it worth getting it?
-
LOL...Yes, I totally should have copyrighted my screen name.

Nice report. I am not sure how the rest of your stay went... but I am sure that if you ever needed anything else from the hotel porter, he'd jump through hoops to make you happy.
I may be going overboard but on my first day of any trip at the hotel that I am staying at (LOS or elsewhere) - I typically introduce myself and tip porters, reception folks, security guards, maids and bartenders/waiters 2 to 3 times what I would normally tip. After the first day, I tip based on the service. This small gesture goes a long way with some folks - especially those that typically don't get tipped. Same sorta reason I'd buy/tip a mamasan or papasan. Anwyho, I've been helped when in a bad jam by these folks, received room upgrades at no cost, provided free drinks/food etc., received valuable intel/advice and made new friends.
So don't worry too much about your 900 Baht, I am sure it went to good use.

You guys are making me want to switch out of the Dynasty Grande, I booked myself for 7 days starting next Friday.
My only concern with Citrus is the extra joiner fees (per my correspondence with the Citrus staff) I don’t feel like paying more for my third guest.... possibly more guests. Which will likely be a nightly occurrence...
What was your experience with that?
