The different mix of people at the breakfast buffet is brilliant to watch...and god help you if you nick a bangkok post from one of the veterans before he's finished!
Walking through the packed lobby with a ladyboy is an everyday occurrence and nobody bats an eyelid.
Nothing much has changed, other than the layout of the lobby as taken a bit by Hooters.
quite some rooms have been refurbished, though.

Never enough good has been said on Chris!

Rembrandt was recommended to me by Chris of the late Darkside 33 and I I can’t imagine he would send BM there if not GF. Maybe there had been a management Change at some point?

1 Giga for a week is more than sufficient
I am just off a trip in Africa and I loaded a 3 giga plan. After 10days I had used 850Mb out of it and trust me I have been extensively browsing, chatting etc as no WiFi were I was for 5 days.
Thailand offers a wide variety of free WiFi access in any bar, restraursnt etc.
Just the gogo might not offer acces, but I believe one doesn’t stay in a gogo for long and for browsing.

MG will grant you a late check out till 6, exceptionally till 8pm (if you are a regular and your room is booked for a late check in) for 50%of the rate.Headed to Thailand soon and my flight home out of BKK leaves at 1am.
Wondering if any hotels may do a partial or late night check out...?
I may be staying at Majestic Grande for few nights early in trip...
Suspect I can just check bags and have fun during day/eve but would be nice to shower before long flight back to USA. Expect I need to be at airport a few hours early...
thx
In case you dont opt for that, You can leave your bags at concierge at any time and you can take a shower beforehand heading to airport by using the Fl 3 gymn restrooms.

and this way Omni hotel makes clear the those guys what they are doing... the price quote is the real warning in the sense they don't want to be involved in price issues. It happens as some customers think reception can negotiate for them once the issue arises as they are the customers... not something the hotel wants to deal with. This sounds plausible and most likely the reason. I´ve lost count of how many times (lower/middle class) indian haggle over price. The most recent one in an 7/11 (!) where two indians tried to haggle down the fixed price of two ice creams...the poor girl at the counter did not know how to deal with it and the line of customers was long.
I´m not a racist and work with many nationalities, but there is a reason that a lot of p4p girls don´t accept indians as customers. Arabs is more of the loose of face and social stigma (muslim upbringing) in case they don´t know it´s a ladyboy and finds out in the room.
According to an indian friend of mine it is the indian group tours that are the worst, since most have never been outside of India. Like the LeFenix hotel in soi 11 that books those groups. Terrible attitude, and it hurts to see how they treat the Thai staff.
So, "dear customer, here you sign that you know there is a dick under the skirt of the stunning beauty you brought to the hotel and you are aware of the price you negotiated with the same girl. Don't complain later about the surprise, and don't start opening price discussions, once you are not happy with your choice, as we have nothing to deal with
A simple waiver.
No gender discrimination as some are trying to brag about,
-
It sounds weird but a sort of redimmendarion for certain types of customers not having a clue who they are bringing back home and the rate they stipulated (if they did). This lifts the hotel from many aggraviations.
I am pretty sure the form isn't presented to all customers - just as often the ID request by security is lifted- but to those customers the security or reception feel it is the case....

i always travel with suitcase, I hate commuting on public transport, engsging with stairs etc. From Suvarnabhumi you avoid taxis and traffic altogether and take the uber cheap and fast train from the airport to Phaya Thai BTS station, and another 15 minutes on the BTS to Nana stop. (It would be a hassle of course with tons of luggage).
If taxi takes +20' because of traffic, let it be it. Happened a couple of times in tens of visits,
-
that works also at suvarnabhumi, even is sometime MIB enfices the "no pick up zone"Thanks guys, I'll check out the taxi's. Good tip to go to the departure area to avoid the queue.
Once my driver got pulled out and fined.
I use that only if line at arrival is unbearable. Have to say that with the new system it is rather pretty quick.
Thanks reacted to this -
Taxi are so cheap they are no brainer
Just avoid scams
When they do, we talk about, maybe 100 baht overall...

you are correct, but don't address the warning to me, lol, but to the other guy suggesting to tear off one page. Please don't do it. The passport is not a personal property and belongs to the State. I am sure it is written on the passport.
Ownership of the passport to the issuing country is a protection towards the hoder.
If any foreign authority seizes the passport it has to return to the holder or to the issuing country, preventing mis-use. The issuing country can also prove holder trips and/or the fact the holder has a passport.
-
and the next immigration agent will give you hell of troubles that your gf anger is heaven...Just razor cut the page out.
Sometime passports are well scrutineered, not necessarily in thailand.
It will result in a sort of forged passport...
I would not even dare to think about that...

I used Nana hotel as a day base for those Lk gentlemen transits from late morning to catch a midnight flight.I have read many reviews about Nana hotel. Even though i have been to BKK many times, but never stayed here because i felt intimated by all the hardcore action around it. I always stay at majestic suites which i highly recommend.
Since majestic suites had no beds available, i had to go for nana as it suited my budget and the location is just perfect, although i dont visit bars, i do seem to enjoy the vicinity of all the action.
When i first checked in, i felt staff at nana were rude and unfriendly and rooms were old with outdated interior, furnishings and facilities. But as i stayed a day and two, i realized not making mindless conversation doesn't make them rude. people here just mind their own business and you do yours. No fake customer service drama. Just stay, fuck and get out. Its a need based facility really. Although i miss the coffee maker and coffee supplies in my room. One reason i love majestic suites.
Staff seems to be as old as the furniture and establishment itself.
I havent tried the swimming pool yet, perhaps tomorrow i might.
I must admit complementary breakfast is better here. More variety and generous since its a buffet.
I might consider repeating Nana if i get my coffee fix.
I am usually staying a majestc grande that is another league of course
Nana fits a prurpose for those budget minded, but still on the mid high, seen that the real budget minded target less than 1000bht.
Friends reported the swimming pool is good and has quite some sun exposure, can't say that of majestic grande, I am afraid.
Rooms at NH are old and tired same as some bathrooms. There is a set of rooms with refurbished bathrooms, but not many.
A lottery to get them.
Staff, as you say, seem to be there since the openings, and so are some porters.
Despite being such used venue for mongering base, the reception and cashier behaves like a 5+* hotel in terms of handling everything..
there is a relatively old lady as a cashier that surely has seen the whole history of the hotel.
And the guests.... the guests are a reason to call in that place.
You will see some Vietnam war survivors for sure and there is none of the corean war for the simple reason age has taken their toll.
A few of them I see anytime I am around (I use the inhouse MP for special "hairdown" shaving and haircut, still old way of barber shop): they must live there no other reason or coincidence.
One guy, with a cowboy hat, on a wheelchair is always on the smoking terrace surrounded by a few aged WG.
Others do chat about their times (and I do mean decades ago if you listen to them) in the confortable soft armchairs and sofa of the lobby.
You can watch the traffic go by.
ST Visitors and LTR of old men and their similarly old teerak, more of a nanny in some cases.
A few metres away is the heart of the BKK nightlife as known.
Get out of the lobby and a bunch of taxi drivers offer you to take you to Pattaya, no matter what time of the day or night.
The car park entrsnce is still seeing the patrol of young ladies doing their trade, mixed with other kind of girls probably having more business than the genuine ones. Sign of today trend.
Since a few months a corner of the csr park, against the wall separating to the gas station next, there is a van hosting a sort of Mexican bar serving food too.
You have it all.
Long life to Nana Hotel. The last of the Mohicans by all means.

some hotels might reply in a vague way " no problem If you booked the room for two guests".i booked 3 days in The Landmark hotel for febr 2017..hope they are lb friendly..i send them a email but got nothing back so far ( 2 days)..anybody stay there lately ?
thx Mike
A nice way to say yes.
They can't openly write "we are ok if you use your room also as a ST room"
Some hotels have a policy that the 2nd girl, if you bring two back, might mean a "joiner fee".
At least that is what you are told officially at check in.
Jossblu reacted to this -
depends... I had a LB staying with me for three days and it all started from a BF for LT.I think it also depends if you officially check her into the hotel.
I found that if you do that then hotels treat them as normal guests.
The problem starts when you invite them to the room but not check them into the hotel.
Never checked in and if I well remember we skipped the ID procedure arriving at night. I just nodded like "it's all ok, she is under control" to the night security (other times I go straight to security to give my room # and them asking for the ID, so the girl has no choice, just in case). Neve had an issue day or night for the three days.
Once I brought a ST back to the room and nodded the same way but the guy said "our standard procedure". I didn't mind...
So, if security knows you as a regular, you get in in an assertive way, they take for granted she checked in and do not step in.
So when I am with my Asian GG GF (she checks in with me,but night security don't knowI just say hallo, and no "nodding"....
So a lot has to do on how you walk in at night.
It is a fact night security don't know if you checked in alone, with her or with another...or she is the second of the day ...

you hit the point. "Tired" and the bathroom is the my obvious thing getting tired, worn out and obsolete.it is evident the rooms have not been refitted in the the entire time.
JW Marriott seems to be in similar position and for the most part is a pretty tired looking 5* property.
I always judge hotels by the bathroom, more than other things, especially when trying to give a quality review.
Then, of course, comfort (asn the bed is the first) comes to place.
There are 2-3 stars German hotels, new, having bathroom far better than much praised 5 stars in other countries and I refer to big cities.

the way to go...Here is a picture of the real Carbonara, taken yesterday from a friend of mine in Rome. You can see it looks more yellow since they only use egg yolk.
-
correct, any carbonara outside its homeland floats in cream.... Real one should be "dry", with Parmesan making it rightly dry too. There should not be any cream in Carbonara, just egg yolk added at the end, which cooks itself with the hot oil used to cook the cheek lard (not bacon). So the end dish should not be swimming in sauce at all.
I better preapare it myself in the kitchen I have in the apartment, if I can find the right things in BKK
This excess (cream) sauce makes it not much easy to digest.
-
exactly.Even right now, cellphone towers can triangulate your location to within around 50 meters.
This matter, still an idea (from somebody needing to remind the world of his/her existence), is being overhyped.
I would not pay too much attention to it.
-
the immigration forms for normal tourist entry do not ask all that.Interestingly, Immigration is rolling out a form that asks a lot of questions. Phone numbers, social media accounts like Line and facebook. What places you frequent. Like 7-11s, bars, temple ..whatever. Parents names too! 5555 Next time I go to Immigration I have to fill one out. For now I use the mail.
Wonder just how slow the lines at Swampy will be if they do this upon arrival.

anyone can be already trackable. Or, let's say, any SIM card can be tracked through the provider system.I assumed they (the police) could track anyone already via their mobile number. Can't see AIS etc turning them down when they want to know the whereabouts of whomever.
Thai SIM cards are registered.
Foreign' not (still in presence if a crime they can ask the country authorities to provide info, but it is a long and uncertain procedure, unless the crime has an international relevance (=terrorism)
This is often used during crime investigation to see who was in a specific area and then follow their path before or after the crime.
Any SIM card has to be registered to an ID or passport in most of the countries, nowadays.
Filling the form at immigration with a cellular number makes future and possible investigations easier, especially if the SIM card in question is foreign. This way they can possibly match it with the immigration entry name.
