    Hello Seasoned travellers!

I usually take a particular taxi service when I arrive at the Suvarnabhumi Airport to go to my hotel in Pattaya, but for some reason, that person isn't responding to my inquiries.

Anyone else have a reliable and reasonably priced taxi service that will get me to my hotel in Pattaya?

    Nam's taxi

Scottie, I know you done this review two years ago but it is spot on and really sums up the hotel perfectly.

The different mix of people at the breakfast buffet is brilliant to watch...and god help you if you nick a bangkok post from one of the veterans before he's finished!

Walking through the packed lobby with a ladyboy is an everyday occurrence and nobody bats an eyelid.

Nothing much has changed, other than the layout of the lobby as taken a bit by Hooters.

quite some rooms have been refurbished, though.

It was Chris who recommended it to me and got me a suite there by phoning a head for me, while me and Michelle were on our way back from Hua Hin.

He got me mates rates as well as that was the kind of guy he his

Never enough good has been said on Chris!

  4. Rembrandt was recommended to me by Chris of the late Darkside 33 and I I can’t imagine he would send  BM there if not GF. Maybe there had been a management  Change at some point?

  5. 1 Giga for a week is more than sufficient

I am just off a trip in Africa and I loaded a 3 giga plan. After 10days I had used 850Mb out of it and trust me I have been extensively browsing, chatting etc as no WiFi were I was for 5 days.

Thailand offers a wide variety of free WiFi access in any bar, restraursnt etc.

Just the gogo might not offer acces, but I believe one doesn’t stay in a gogo for long and for browsing.

  6. Headed to Thailand soon and my flight home out of BKK leaves at 1am.

Wondering if any hotels may do a partial or late night check out...?

I may be staying at Majestic Grande for few nights early in trip...

Suspect I can just check bags and have fun during day/eve but would be nice to shower before long flight back to USA. Expect I need to be at airport a few hours early...

    thx

MG will grant you a late check out till 6, exceptionally till 8pm (if you are a regular and your room is booked for a late check in) for 50%of the rate.

In case you dont opt for that, You can leave your bags at concierge at any time and you can take a shower beforehand heading to airport by using the Fl 3 gymn restrooms.

  7. This sounds plausible and most likely the reason. I´ve lost count of how many times (lower/middle class) indian haggle over price. The most recent one in an 7/11 (!) where two indians tried to haggle down the fixed price of two ice creams...the poor girl at the counter did not know how to deal with it and the line of customers was long.

I´m not a racist and work with many nationalities, but there is a reason that a lot of p4p girls don´t accept indians as customers. Arabs is more of the loose of face and social stigma (muslim upbringing) in case they don´t know it´s a ladyboy and finds out in the room.

According to an indian friend of mine it is the indian group tours that are the worst, since most have never been outside of India. Like the LeFenix hotel in soi 11 that books those groups. Terrible attitude, and it hurts to see how they treat the Thai staff.

and this way Omni hotel makes clear the those guys what they are doing... the price quote is the real warning in the sense they don't want to be involved in price issues. It happens as some customers think reception can negotiate for them once the issue arises as they are the customers... not something the hotel wants to deal with.

So, "dear customer, here you sign that you know there is a dick under the skirt of the stunning beauty you brought to the hotel and you are aware of the price you negotiated with the same girl. Don't complain later about the surprise, and don't start opening price discussions, once you are not happy with your choice, as we have nothing to deal with

    A simple waiver.

No gender discrimination as some are trying to brag about,

  8. It sounds weird but a sort of redimmendarion for certain types of customers not having a clue who they are bringing back home and the rate they stipulated (if they did). This lifts the hotel from many aggraviations.

I am pretty sure the form isn't presented to all customers - just as often the ID request by security is lifted- but to those customers the security or reception feel it is the case....

  9. From Suvarnabhumi you avoid taxis and traffic altogether and take the uber cheap and fast train from the airport to Phaya Thai BTS station, and another 15 minutes on the BTS to Nana stop. (It would be a hassle of course with tons of luggage).

i always travel with suitcase, I hate commuting on public transport, engsging with stairs etc.

If taxi takes +20' because of traffic, let it be it. Happened a couple of times in tens of visits,

  10. Thanks guys, I'll check out the taxi's. Good tip to go to the departure area to avoid the queue.

that works also at suvarnabhumi, even is sometime MIB enfices the "no pick up zone"

Once my driver got pulled out and fined.

I use that only if line at arrival is unbearable. Have to say that with the new system it is rather pretty quick.

  11. Please don't do it. The passport is not a personal property and belongs to the State. I am sure it is written on the passport.

you are correct, but don't address the warning to me, lol, but to the other guy suggesting to tear off one page.

Ownership of the passport to the issuing country is a protection towards the hoder.

If any foreign authority seizes the passport it has to return to the holder or to the issuing country, preventing mis-use. The issuing country can also prove holder trips and/or the fact the holder has a passport.

  12. Just razor cut the page out.

and the next immigration agent will give you hell of troubles that your gf anger is heaven...

Sometime passports are well scrutineered, not necessarily in thailand.

It will result in a sort of forged passport...

I would not even dare to think about that...

  13. i booked 3 days in The Landmark hotel for febr 2017..hope they are lb friendly..i send them a email but got nothing back so far ( 2 days)..anybody stay there lately ?

    thx Mike

some hotels might reply in a vague way " no problem If you booked the room for two guests".

A nice way to say yes.

They can't openly write "we are ok if you use your room also as a ST room"

Some hotels have a policy that the 2nd girl, if you bring two back, might mean a "joiner fee".

At least that is what you are told officially at check in.

  14. I think it also depends if you officially check her into the hotel.

I found that if you do that then hotels treat them as normal guests.

The problem starts when you invite them to the room but not check them into the hotel.

depends... I had a LB staying with me for three days and it all started from a BF for LT.

Never checked in and if I well remember we skipped the ID procedure arriving at night. I just nodded like "it's all ok, she is under control" to the night security (other times I go straight to security to give my room # and them asking for the ID, so the girl has no choice, just in case). Neve had an issue day or night for the three days.

Once I brought a ST back to the room and nodded the same way but the guy said "our standard procedure". I didn't mind...

So, if security knows you as a regular, you get in in an assertive way, they take for granted she checked in and do not step in.

So when I am with my Asian GG GF (she checks in with me,but night security don't knowI just say hallo, and no "nodding"....

So a lot has to do on how you walk in at night.

It is a fact night security don't know if you checked in alone, with her or with another...or she is the second of the day ...

  15. it is evident the rooms have not been refitted in the the entire time.

JW Marriott seems to be in similar position and for the most part is a pretty tired looking 5* property.

you hit the point. "Tired" and the bathroom is the my obvious thing getting tired, worn out and obsolete.

I always judge hotels by the bathroom, more than other things, especially when trying to give a quality review.

Then, of course, comfort (asn the bed is the first) comes to place.

There are 2-3 stars German hotels, new, having bathroom far better than much praised 5 stars in other countries and I refer to big cities.

  16. There should not be any cream in Carbonara, just egg yolk added at the end, which cooks itself with the hot oil used to cook the cheek lard (not bacon). So the end dish should not be swimming in sauce at all.

I better preapare it myself in the kitchen I have in the apartment, if I can find the right things in BKK :D

correct, any carbonara outside its homeland floats in cream.... Real one should be "dry", with Parmesan making it rightly dry too.

This excess (cream) sauce makes it not much easy to digest.

  17. Interestingly, Immigration is rolling out a form that asks a lot of questions. Phone numbers, social media accounts like Line and facebook. What places you frequent. Like 7-11s, bars, temple ..whatever. Parents names too! 5555 Next time I go to Immigration I have to fill one out. For now I use the mail.

Wonder just how slow the lines at Swampy will be if they do this upon arrival.

the immigration forms for normal tourist entry do not ask all that.

  18. I assumed they (the police) could track anyone already via their mobile number. Can't see AIS etc turning them down when they want to know the whereabouts of whomever.

anyone can be already trackable. Or, let's say, any SIM card can be tracked through the provider system.

    Thai SIM cards are registered.

Foreign' not (still in presence if a crime they can ask the country authorities to provide info, but it is a long and uncertain procedure, unless the crime has an international relevance (=terrorism)

This is often used during crime investigation to see who was in a specific area and then follow their path before or after the crime.

Any SIM card has to be registered to an ID or passport in most of the countries, nowadays.

Filling the form at immigration with a cellular number makes future and possible investigations easier, especially if the SIM card in question is foreign. This way they can possibly match it with the immigration entry name.
