    Indian Food Restaurant

that is a place called India Today. not too bad, nice people. 2nd floor is a bar and lounge and the 3rd floor is the dinning room. small menu but good food. service is so-so unless the girl who tends bar waits on you on the 2nd floor. 2nnd floor can be a bit noisy if they are watching football or cricket or the disco music is on. i asked the manager one night why i do not feel bloated after eating there as opposed to some other Indian restaurants. he says that is because all the food there is made to order and in other Indian restaurants they make large quantities of some dishes that sell well and that is the type of preparations that cause that over-stuffed feeling. i have eaten their probably 15 times over the last 4 or 5 months. my boss likes it so we go there to talk and gorge ourselves.

    Indian Food Restaurant

please define upper end. quality, price, ambiance, all of the above. for all of the above try Rang Mahal at the Rembrandt Hotel. great food, awesome views, and 5 star service. also for a more intimate setting and traditional style seating (low tables) and good food is Moghul Room Indian Restaurant, just across from Cheap Charlies on Soi 11 Suk, does all the Indian standards, including an array of vegetarian options. Try to be seated upstairs where the atmosphere is more intimate. Prices are reasonable and the portions are a decent size. for simply very good food in a relaxed setting, not to fancy and a lot of Indian chintz, try the Akbar on Suk Soi 3. also known as the Elvis restaurant becuase both the father and son owners have Elvis pompadour hair cuts and wear bell bottom pants from that era. Indus at 71, Sukhumvit Soi 26 is also spectacular. its in a converted house with a beautiful patio for dinning and an outside bar plus a small Indian disco. sounds crazy, but it all works. food, especially the sauces, although traditional, all have a great twist to them that sets this place apart. friendly and great service. the setting outside is so sabai. (the pictures on the website IMHO are sh*te and not representative of how nice it is.) and although it is an Egyptian restaurant, Sherazade on Soi 3/1 has a great selection of Indian. no alcohol is served as they are Muslims, but the food is outstanding and an Indian chef is in residence. the egyptian fare is some of the best food on the planet. see this topic and go to post #4. for over all good food, great ambiance and one of BKKs best Sukhumvit views, stellar service, live traditional Indian sitar and tablas band, and a place to impress its Rang Mahal. reserve in advance and tell them you insist on a corner table in the back at the window overlooking lake Rajada and Sukhumvit. my second choice would be Indus. maybe go to Indus early, have some cocktails on the patio with some apps and then motivate to Rang Mahal. it would be about a 10 or 15 minute taxi ride between the two.
  3. Phuket Fantasy ~ Kamala Beach, Kathu, Phuket the website is totally cool and interactive. i've been there several times over the years, usually when i am in HKT working, the last time was about 2 years ago. the brochure is 2 years old, too, so the contact info may have changed, check the website if need be. pictures are surely accurate. i highly recommend it. i have been and gone to the buffet and i have gone and not paid for the buffet. either way its a deal. the buffet when i was there was extensive and had several cuisines represented including Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, European and other farang foods. make sure your transport gets you there in time to eat. depending on how many shows there are you may have a choice of eating before or after the show. ask the tour people what the current status is. the show is always an eye opener. well staged, great costumes and its like a cross between traditional TH entertainments, Cirque du Soleil and and a traditional circus. the acrobatics and elephant stuff is over the top. look around when buying tickets, everyone has them and prices do vary from my recollection. a lot of the tariff is dependent on where else on the island you are in relation to the venue. the further from Kathu you are the more it may cost. the show itself should always be the same price. ask for a breakdown of the charges if you need to know how much you are paying just for the ride there. if you opt for a pick-up service you can avoid the hassles and headaches from the tuk-tuk driver mafia and there insane, usury, fixed-price rates and intimidation. great way to kill the first part of an evening and get a bit if TH culture, before going out mongering, or bring the GFE LB LT from last night with you. WARNING: there is shopping there so be prepared to possibly buy souvenirs for the GFE LB LT. IMHO, this place is better than soi bangla for entertainment and dollar value.

    Silicone injections

+1 from me nightwatch. i agree totally and have had this conversation 1,000 times if once with LBs. they look at me and say "oh yeah? really?" and then go see Dr. Frankenstein for whatever it may be they think they need. Slam Man, i think the doctors know that they have an easy client (they can not see the doc is doing to them what they do to punters. maybe that's their karma at work. ) and they listen to them telling them they are not perfect. they listen because many Thais make the mistake of holding all doctors in high esteem. 55555 although i find big fake asses comical, i think for me the worst is the big giant nose so many are now getting. that is peer pressure for sure. keeping up with the Joneses is an international phenom. despite not being my type, Tee Tee from Cascade has actually done the ass thing well and not gone too overboard. it suits her and looks better than most. the one thing about many of the Casanova girls that i find distasteful is their ass quotient. i am always waiting for them to burst and fly around the room backwards like a balloon. it is also one of the first things to deteriorate from my observation. it ends up looking like a fat farang chick's cellulite and starts to droop. mashed potatoes comes to mind, YUCK! let's hear it for asses that fit in the palm of your hand.

    Some thoughts on US visas

+1 from me for all the great intel and the time it took you to write this all down for our benefit. thanks. i was married to a GG years ago and went through hell at the interview in 2000 when we were denied, despite all the photos and letters (pre email) showing we had been together as a couple for a long time, my work permit from a Thai Hotel Chain, my passport that showed i had resided in TH for 8 years at that time, a letter from my Senator (head of the foreign relations committee) requesting the visa be granted, a letter from my employer stating that i had a good job and was welcome back after the holiday in the states, and wife being able to speak English fairly well the embassy staff told me we were denied because it was my country's duty to protect me from myself, and what he perceived to be a passing fancy and infatuation. there is actually a rule that was implemented during the Korean War for this because so many guys wanted to bring Korean women home. my wife had a child by another farang (an asshole who left her when she was 5 months pregnant) and the closing comment from the dick at the embassy was, i also think you are going there to leave the child with your family to be raised and go to an american school. despite the fact that the kid was going to a reputable international school in Pattaya at the time and we had told them during the interview that the reason we were going home was because my father was gravely ill, hospitalized, and we wanted the family to see the my wife and child before he passed away. knowing that i was never going to get them the visas i ended the conversation by telling the ass that i had no intention of leaving my child and that all though the schools in america may be good, i did not want my child to be at risk of getting shot at school. he then told me to leave, the interview was over, and he went to lunch. maybe his farang wife burnt his toast at breakfast, who knows. the point is, that no matter what you do or what you show them, its all up to some low level public servant who may have an attitude. SO FOLLOW THE OPs ADVICE AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE DONE ALL THAT YOU CAN TO PREPARE, YOU ONLY GET ONE CHANCE. and if its better to wait, wait. EDIT: i might add that my wife felt that she had lost so much face at that interview that she suffered self-doubt for a very long time and got depressed for months. she felt that she was responsible for us not getting the visas and that she had ruined the whole idea of going on the trip, and that she was a bad girl in the eyes of my family. i also forgot to tell you that we had a DNA test done on the kid and myself so that when we told them the child was not mine, thinking that would show even more commitment, that they would ask for the DNA test, and we would already have it. i hope this is not seen as hijacking, i really wanted to reinforce what you said about being prepared, and basically getting one chance.

    Photogenic rooms in BKK

i was in the PB Hotel on friday night and i thought of you and took these pics. not the most beautiful/trendy but the new drapes are not too bad (plain tan) and and the walls are freshly painted white. none of the furniture is built in so yu can move it around if need be. (sometimes it moves by itself. ) big windows too if you are looking for natural light, but only 2nd floor and the rooms across the way can see you i think. not very large, but not small either. about 4o ST and 600 all night. coffee shop serves ok TH food too. its great for ST, don't know about pics. most taxis know where it is too. form NEP you go to Soi 11, go all the way to the "T" and turn left, go right at Q Bar (u have to), and then the 1st left. go strait till you see the PB sign. DO NOT LET THEM TURN INTO THE PENTHOUSE HOTEL!

    Photogenic rooms in BKK

i will assume you are not up for paying these rates, but this hotel is awesome. i did a new years eve there with 3 girls a few years back. in one wing the rooms have different themes. i booked the Thai suite, all teak and raw silk furnishings and appointments. here it is: this is a different room, but looks more like the "white" motif you seek: and this looks great, split-level: stunning rooms, aren't they? The Davis on Soi 22. i think you and i both know one girl who would fit perfectly into any of these rooms ....................... B) some dude shot a video of his room: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJEQavoo3Jg

    count down clocks

without having access to the back end it is difficult for a regular member to assist. when i have tech issues i PM a mod or admin to bring it to their attention. try LULT he is always a big help and can point you in the right direction.
  10. go with a friend if possible so you can order more food and have a few more dishes to sample. i believe they are still open 23 hours a day. close between 6 and 7 to clean. service is good too. the Thai girls/captains speak English well and if an Egyptian guy takes your order just point at the menu items. the sheer volume of trade insures that all is fresh and prepared daily. recommendations from the menu: Hummus Babaganoush Lentil Soup (like ambrosia) Chicken Tikka Lamb Koffta Leg of Lamb (i eat the entire think myself although good for 2) Chapati is my preference although the Nan bread is good too. Tabouleh Salad Okra in Tomato Moussaka Byrani Rice with Shrimp Coconut Custard and the best Turkish coffee in BKK. the beans are hand carried by a friend of the owners in his luggage form i believe Dubai. peak dinner time can be packed out with families and screaming kids. i go for lunch mid-afternoon or after 9:00 pm. there is a prayer room upstaris and yu will see guys coming and going for that, a very peaceful place. needless to say, no booze is served here.
  11. i have not eaten there for a while, but it used to be good standard hotel fare. (Thai menu.) as in any hotel of that class the farang food is most always below the taste of the Thai food. they erroneously think that if it looks like farang food, it must taste like farang food, not so. and for some reason at breakfast they use a flashlight to make the toast, as do most Thai places. girls will not complain if having basic room service there as the kitchen knows who they are serving and have that down pat. there are so many restaurants in the area though. Majestic around the corner near the police box on Sukhumvit has great Thai food 6 nights a week. (1 day the chef is off and i find it to be not as good.) also the food counter at Foodland on Soi 5 is a good bet for basic Thai and some Farang food. the executive chef for foodland worked at Sheraton hotels in the USA before working for them, so it is not too bad and very reasonably priced. Foodland dishes are also UBER FRESH as it is a supermarket first and not a restaurant. for variety go down the Arab Soi Suk 3/1. go past the first ally way and look to the left for Sherazade. Egyptian cuisine at its best and also Indian and Thai. (the owners are friendly but LBs in there will not be appreciated by the guys and families.) i think it is one of the best restaurants in the world. not just BKK, the world.
  12. FYI: i just got this in a news letter from Trip Advisor. seems TH made the list twice. #7 #9

    Advice needed - Nana

so bullseye, would you say that sex with ladyboys is the mother of all invention? when i was in NYC, where there is never one of those unless it was on the kitchen sink (and i'm not tall enough to reach there ) i would use an enema bag. a large enema bag is about 10 USD in any good pharmacy and it does the trick. most come with a set of tips and one is for douching (thus the term douche bag?). i keep it in my luggage when i travel too. you never know when your going to get the urge to submit and bark like a dog.
  14. as a chef for over 30 years, and living in BKK for close to 20, i have seen the pizza industry evolve here. (my last job in USA was 5 years spent as Exec Chef in an Italian Restaurant that made close to 500 pizzas a day including all the other menu items we turned out.) in the early years here in BKK the cheese was absolute processed shite, the sauces were thick and overly sweet and the doughs were tough and also too thick (usually a raw uncooked center). now they have many wood-fired ovens, great stringy cheeses and the sauces are made more to farang taste (not the chain stores), with good fresh toppings and meats. seeing as everyone has their favorite pizza place i guess i will list mine too. on Soi 4 across from the Raja Hotel and Mansions parking lot (1 minute walk from NEP) you will see a small restaurant called the Big Bull. there is a pizza oven out front. if you like thin and crispy with the sauce not too sweet, fresh toppings and good cheese this is the place (Swiss owned). i usually go in, order an eggplant, caper, black olive and mushroom pie and ask them to walk across the street to Guess and deliver it. 20 minutes later i am in pizza haven. the lobby restaurant at the Intercontinental (under the Chitlom BTS station) also has a good pie. and if you are in the Silom area try the up-scale restaurant on Soi Sala Daeng, Zannotti's. they make a great Parma Ham Pizza. they are also branching out in collaboration with S & P Corp: http://www.zanottigroup.com/piz_zanotti2.html when on Suk Soi 7/1 try Mario's. one of the oldest pizza shops in BKK. slow, but good. and Suk 31 one has Bella Napoli (great anchovies in this place if you like that). and this place was great but was never appreciated, so i think it is now gone (tel numbers are out of order). they truly replicated NY style pizza better than anyone. Ronny on Soi 4 approaches the mark but IMHO falls a bit short.

    STD Screening

if i may add to this important thread >>> for people who have a lot of time (1 week or more depending on what they do or do not find and any further testing they will recommend.) i suggest that you also try this place: Bang Rak Hospital STI Clinic 189 Sathon Tai Yannawa, Sathon, Bangkok 10500, Thailand 02-2860431 this is a govt hospital that is a major part of all the international STD programs for Thailand, especially HIV/Aides. they were one of the first in Asia to sign on to the International effort to figure all this out and that is all they do there. i have been several times for my periodic check-ups. very friendly, very matter of fact, and no bs or attitude was ever expressed to me on either visit. they will check everything. NOTE: the posters on the walls of this place may have you grabbing your junk and running for the hills. very graphic depictions of what STDs can do when they ravage your body. these STD posters make the pictures on the cigarette packs look appealing. but at least you will know what you are up against the next time you get naked and start thinking about stabbing the black peanut BB. these people conduct the most thorough tests known to the medical profession anywhere. they have always been in the forefront of the cause to reduce STDs. they are also very inexpensive as it is mainly a place for Thais. take the BTS to Chong Nonsi Station on the Silom line. as shown in the map below. if you call them simply ask for an English speaker if one does not answer the phone.
