  1. Just a follow up on this topic. I stayed here for 6 nights in March. One of the best hotels I have stayed in. Service was top class, as in genuine 5 Star hotel responsiveness and attention to detail you would expect in a European 5 star hotel.

Rooms were great, big and good layout and facilities excellent. Quality gym and really nice pool area. The basement has a very nice wine bar, bakery and mid range Thai restaurant too. The Gaysorn Centre and Central world are across the road and Chit Lon station a few minutes away.

As you would expect it’s not cheap, but a good option if you want a place to hang out and relax in comfort for a few days. I didn’t bring anyone back, but it wouldn’t have been any issue if I had. I would definitely stay again but would be looking at off-season rates.

  2. Yep totally agree ...just come back from Viet & Thai ..paid 8.4k for 2 bus tickets to Bris/HCM return. Have been doing research for later in year 6k or more for Bris to Bang-- bloody rip off, cheapest to go mong from Oz is around 4k+ to Manilla....pre covid got Bus return to Manilla for 2.6k .... QANTAS new boss say fares come down soon ...yeah like when.....

and quite frankly service and food on SING flights over and back was NOT up to standard as before....very disappointing.

I’ve found a lot of sub $4k business with Thai from Sydney at different times of the year (I’ve booked one for Xmas!). Qantas is around $5.2 $5.5k by comparison. Before Covid I managed to find a $2.8k business fare with Qantas. It’s so much more expensive now and have to do a lot of research to get decent value

  3. I use Booking.com to compare options, but also check other aggregator websites and with the shortlisted hotels direct to. Remember that hotels use dynamic pricing based on season and how far out you book. Sometimes it pays to book late as sometimes prices will drop if they don’t meet their booking quota. But your approach is sound if you book in advance with free cancellation so you can check prices closer to the time.

Same issue with airlines and they are ripping us off in Aus. But Thai are starting twice daily flights from Sydney and Melbourne and also a flight from Perth. I hope that will push down prices as Qantas is overpriced but I’ve managed to get some business awards flights from them for the past 3 years.

It's been a long time since I stayed there. I liked the hotel itself. Good rooms and facilities. When I stayed there they had a dance club that attracted freelancers (all gg as far as I could tell), and they all asked premium prices.

Thanks Bwana. Makes sense that an expensive hotel would mean they ask premium prices. Similar to Oskars on Soi 11 I guess, "high end' bar that attracts farangs where it's great to people watch and fun to watch the FLs trying to make eye contact. I've never bothered with (gg) FLs there, but I expect it would be the same 5k+ expectation.

  5. I've got a long stay in Bangkok in March, and often like to end my trip in a (better) quality hotel. I know this is slightly away from the entertainment, but that's partly the idea.

Has anyone stayed here and have any thoughts on whether it's worth it? I think I also read (pre-covid) that it does/does(?) have a popular bar frequented by FLs. Does anyone know about this?

  6. I usually stay at the Mercure on Soi 11 or the Landmark but I’m a. bit over the chaos of Sukhumvit between Nana and Asok and thinking of staying in Phrom Phong if not only for the daytime fun at (girly) massage places on Soi 33 (etc) within walking distance.

Has anyone stayed at Novotel on Soi 20 and had any issue with joiners?

Also, I usually do ST (in-calls) at Cindy’s, CIB and WN. Do you guys get your lady to sort out a cab if you want to take them LT? Too far to walk in those heels :-)

    Thanks in advance

  7. Your other alternative is just to use a laundry that washes by the kilo. You can usually get your clothes pressed too. Last time I stayed at Mercure on Soi 11 I used the laundry in the lane opposite, just before Cindy’s. Cheap and rest the next day.

  8. For Soi 11 you can’t go past Mercure. Decent sized rooms and good layout, good amenities, the breakfast is OK, the bar is a good spot for people watching, and Cindy’s is directly opposite!

  9. Occasionally, but why would you wait for a random hooker to wander by the Landmark when 100 feet away is Soi 4, arguably the world's most notorious red light district with more freelancers than there are stars in heaven?

I most certainly will be wondering down that way, but if it saves me a walk after a hangover all the better…

  10. I will be at the Landmark in a couple of weeks. Do any freelancers hang around there (TG and GG)? I know they have a bar and cafe where I might spend a bit of time

  11. I stayed at Mercure during my last visit and it’s a good location and one I would recommend.
Is the mobile laundry still parked up on Soi11? Usually need to get a few loads done in that heat and humidity
