  1. Closeto thefun area Sofitel no doubt. Guestfriendly top rooms Belga rooftop restaurant one of the best in Bkk. Excellent executive lounge. Just after covid was like 4000thb a night Now more towards 6000

Outside fun area Banyan tree. Almost unbeatable. But pricy!
Staying now most of the time Mercure soi 11, as I managed aspecial rate there all year long at 3000thb.

  2. You should ... great place to bring the lady! Walk down Soi 11, through the S-curve (left, right) and then it's in the 1st or 2nd alley to the left (not sure which one), but very short alleys. It's the last bar on the right hand side. Real Latin vibe, where you can hear Fidel Castro speech when you're taking a leak   (not kiddin') !
Yeah I know where it is seen it before but never went in

  3. Last year one time at departure the queues had backed up to the escalator. So as you say it's a lottery. I think doing away the landing card has also made it a lot easier.
Agree that departure can still be bad. Arrival has been OK over the last couple of months

  4. Arrived yesterday around 19.45
Took me like 10 min to pass immigration and 5 min for luggage
Been like this for the last 5 months it really improved. They even organise people to go in thai passport booths to make it faster.

  5. Tried Artisan today for the first time, and they are indeed fantastic. The fries were some of the best I’ve ever had too. Will be back for sure!
    Come to Belgium
Not so many LB but the best fries you can get anywhere in the world.

  7. Very accurate description
I am staying there quite often but I am surprised about the power outlets there is one on each side of the bed and even with a USB plug
I am travelling a lot so as platinum member I enjoy executive lounge access wich includes happy hour e ery day. Small buffet and free drinks cocktails beer wine whatever.
I would suggest for those staying often there to negotiate a special price. I am staying the on average 30 to 40 nights a year. And I got a fixed rate in their best room for 3000Thb
Prices in that hotel went up quite a bit indeed and last check was like 145eur per night which is imo overpriced.
Novotel soi 4 is for the moment one of the cheaper options in the neighbourhood around 75eur
Of course location of Mercure is perfect. However novotel is 150 meters from WN

  8. Are the taxi queues long these days? And is Grab an option from the airport?
    No grab possible from airport
    To airport no issue
From airport i take a Aot limo for 1050thb no waiting time and easy is however app. Double from a normal cab.

Gaggan closed as I understand. He is doing some chef tables/stalls etc as I heard, and collaborating on something with the Suhring brothers.

Hearing a bit about something on or around Soi 15 called Varanasi (or Benaras) but not personally tried.

Frankly it always surprised me that there is no really good Indian restaurant ( outside of Gaggan's- but that was fusion and hard to get in) in Bangkok.

Everything on Sukhumvit even between Thonglor upto Pratunam ( Siam) is passable or below

The Lebua had a good chef for inhouse dishes. UK, UAE , USA metros way ahead.

    Tkx for the Intel

    Didn't know he was closed

  10. One of thebetter indian restaurants you will find at frazer suites on soi 11 inthe same building as above 11

    https://charcoalbkk.com/

    They also have crazy cocktails

A good one on thonglor as well but forgot the name

Next to Mercure soi11 is also good

Best restaurant in bkk 3star michelin called Gagan is also Indian but 2 months reservation and set menu starts at 6800 thb

If money isnt an issue, Sofitel is by far the best location imho. Also has a direct BTS entry and itvis a discrete way of bringing someone back of you dont want to go via lobby.

There is always a security guard at that entrance and it closes like 23.00-2330u so if you are late you need to go via the lobby anyway but it is no issue, for the moment prices are still reasonalble for the hotel quality around 100-125€/night

Mercure soi 11 is a very god option as well around half the price and nice big rooms, with good comfort

Kiwi closed in early spring of 2020 and believe there was a permanent decision not to re-open. You may remember they were situated near the beginning of Soi 8 and had to move down to a sub Soi off 8 to make way for a new hotel, which probably did not help their walk in traffic. Their old location is now marred by this ugly designed hotel that brings nothing of interest to the neighborhood.

yes indeed, just opposite the new kiwi there was vesuvius, a place where they had an excellent Pizza, hope this one will survive

  13. Isaan lamplen

Thai issaan cabaret no tourists, been there a couple of times with some of the CIBgirls, open till very early in the morning, straight/gay/cg/lb mixed public

  14. Mangmoon card would be great if it also included BTS
As it is, only for MRT (Blue and Purple), Buses and the Airport Link.
    Agree with that
Typical Thai to have a brilliant system but not get the best out of it
