Valentines Day Suggestions?

Recommended Posts

So I am landing in BKK on the 14th February and am meeting a special friend that night.

I've been to BKK 20+ times, but suffer from terminal lack of imagination and very low romantic DNA. (I work in software, so enough said!).

Where would you recommend I take the friend?

I was thinking of dinner plus somewhere afterwards, but have hit the imagination wall.

It doesn't need to be cheap, I'd like to create a great impression.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated and you will be helping a fellow BM on his first steps to "true love."

Cheers

Wow thanks for taking the time to make so many great suggestions Ropey, thats really appreciated and 95% of them are ones I would never have thought of. (I did say I have limited imagination!)

I think the Moon Bar will be chocker on the 14th and did take her up the Lebua Tower on the last trip (its the lack of imagination once again). I like the idea of Maggie Choos, as it seems to tick all of the boxes, so I think that may be the solution, after a dinner.

I was thinking of Kinaree on Soi 8, as its just a brief walk from the hotel. I was there a few years ago and really liked it, but don't know what its like these days.

I'll be seeing her quite a bit for the time I'm in BKK, so will also work through your list and let you know how it goes. The selfie tip was a top one, its something I hadn't thought about, but its well on the mark.

Thanks once again for making the effort to help out on this, it was really good of you to pass on a wealth of knowledge.

If our paths cross, I owe you a beer.

Cheers

And if anyone else is interested in those places with great views in BKK, here's a nice list:

Assante  Bwana

That's great info.

I've also taken some to Long Table as it's just a short walk from CIB and it has a more laid back vibe.

That list is very useful as there are a lot of new places on it.

Is this the restaurant? The hard part with Thai food is you will likely end up taking them to a place that focus on Farang versions of Thai food which has little to no spice and flavour and Thais see as kids food. For Thai dining, try Sawasdee, GF at Intercontinental Hotel, it's not spicy but she will forgive that as it's served authentic in porcelain dishes and bronze flatware, so she will want to picture each dish that is served (and it's a romantic setting). Otherwise, get her to recommend the restaurant that she would want to go too and you can order Mai Pet (not spicy) or kor Pet Nit Noi (I want a little bit spicy) if you can't handle Thai spice (especially an isaan restaurant).

Thanks for the additional information and advice Ropey. I'll put Sawasdee on the list, as you point out its romantic and selfie-friendly!

I get the point about the Isaan food. I previously had a GG gf and so learnt the ropes about Isaan food, going through the tears in my eyes barrier etc.

My favourite ever farang put down was the place that served 'liitle spicy' sauce for my fish and it had a small spoon in it (smaller than a normal teaspoon). When I asked what that was about I was told "oh that's a baby spoon, as you got baby spicey." It all adds to the rich tapestry of the Thai dating experience!

Cheers and thanks for the recommendations.

Thanks for the feedback on Kinaree Markm. Based on that I'll give it a pass.

The great thing about Korean BBQ is that Korea Town is on soi 12, so a short walk to lots of places there, so thats really convenient.

I think that may be the winner and then hit Maggie Choos afterwards.

I'm around for almost 4 weeks, so will diligently work through many of the places that have been suggested.

Not a martini fan!

Thanks Youngone - as you are from the industry, you can understand the dilemma LOL.

Theres some great suggestions on the list and I think the cruise is a great idea. I've been on a few in the past, but they weren't that great. The Shangri-La one looks a lot better, so I'll do that one.

I'll add all of these suggestions to collate 1 list and then work through them over the period I am in town. Maybe make a Gantt chart out of it LOL.

The great thing about eating well in BKK is that it is significantly lower cost than other world cities, yet of a high standard.

Cheers

Some of these places are magnificent. I'll see if I can visit a couple of rooftop bars during my stay and take me, myself and I there.... yeah, I know... I am selfish... lol

Manga - I took 2 friends to the Sky Bar on the last trip and loved re-living my own personal 'Hangover 2' movie.

They really liked it up there and the selfies were almost non stop.

It was also a great cure for my chronic reticence about being seen in public and it has cured me once and for all about shyness around LBs.

Plus the looks on some of the Mid Western Americans faces were priceless! I think they're still relating the story to their neighbours back in Kansas City and Omaha!

I'd definitely share the experience!
