Great location for sure... Shama is at least 1 grade better than The Phachara, the rooms are larger and more modern whilst the rooftop pool is far superior as well. There were 2 minus points when I stayed there around 3 years ago: the wifi sucked big time and the choice of TV channels was very limited + mainly dominated by Arab stations. Not a surprise given that the majority of clientele were Arabs, but still a bit of an annoyance to me. The poor wifi was however the main reason for not returning. The room itself and the onsite amenities were excellent.

Enjoy your stay and, like Boomerang, I look forward to an up to date Shama review.

I looked at Sharma for my last trip but was put off by the reportedly poor wifi which is unacceptable in this day and age. Hope you have a good stay. Look forward to your comments.

I stayed at Phachara during my short trip last April. Besides being close to the action, like SheLuver I also wanted to check it and see if it could be good for my August vacation. I had the same room he had and I found it good for a short stay. But for my next long trip I wanted a One Bedroom apartment so I talked to a management girl and asked her to see one of them. The Deluxe one was just ok but I found the Executive one great. Large bedroom and living room and big balcony with table and chairs. Got it booked for 65.000 for the month.

Shama was one of my other options but after having seen the apartment I will be staying in at Phachara I opted for this last one.

Of course it's only booked and not paid yet, especially now that CIB could relocate somewhere else. If they should move the bar before August and the new location will be around soi 22, I will change my hotel too. My evenings will start in different places but most of the nights will end at CIB so I prefer a place close to the bar.

I just checked in here and i must say im extremely disappointed so far. Check in took a good half hour for no apparent reason, no bell boy took my bags or escorted me to my room. I had to pay 3k deposit which is absurd, and worst of all the elevator works only with room key. Does this mean if i invite a girl over i have to go down to lobby to get her?

Not only will you have to go down and get her but the last time I stayed there I had to sign a sheet acknowledging my visitor was my responsibility if there was any issues ! I have not stayed there again. Most new hotels require you to use your room card to use the lift though. It's a reasonable security measure I think.

I've never had to pay a deposit though ..did you pay for your room in cash ? I think if you pay by card or have already paid via Agoda then they don't ask for any deposit.

Yikes !!

So why do Bms always recommend this place?

No i didnt pay cash, i paid with my credit card but i paid the deposit in cash.

I wonder if i can get a refund and go book a room somewhere else.

Anybody know if citadines 8 elevators require room keys too? Im thinking of shifting there. Thanks in advance.

The best way to find out is to email them and get the info straight from the horse's mouth.

I agree with Gympy that the benefits outweigh the hassle and that you may a difficult time finding a good hotel that doesn't have

the elevator key access feature. I can't think of a BKK hotel I have stayed in that doesn't have them.

Also emailing them or talking to them on the phone isnt always a great help. Today i called aspen and asked if they had a smoking room available, then he says one will be available starting Thuraday so when i asked him if i book now will he confirm to me that i will have a smoking room he says : subject to availability lol. So we are going back and forth regarding this issue and he starts telling me how he has worked in every hotel in thailand and that none of them will guarantee or confirm this as its always subject to availability lmao. Needless to say i didnt book the room :)
