Accor Grand Sukhumvit (Formerly Sofitel)

Recommended Posts

Guys,

the Accor Group have released their annual super sale on all rooms in Asia.

I have just booked with the Grand Sukhumvit (formerly Sofitel), Suk Rd, Soi 6, for 1700 baht (usually 4000).

There are loads of hotels on their books for BKK and Patts. You MUST book from today till 29th Oct 2009. The dates you can stay seem to be from now till well into 2010.

There are prices starting at 600 baht !?!?!

This is the link

Cheers

LULT,

Thanks for posting this. I had 5 days booked at the Darwin in December but decided to cancel it and book this, Grand Sukhumvit, as it looks to good to pass up. This will be about the same price for what looks like quite a bit of upgrade. I'm just worried the LB/gg's will think I have money now and try to charge me more.

You wont regret it. It was one of the best experiences of me staying in hotels in LOS.

One thing to know is that there are two wings to this hotel : Old and new.

The old tower is still very modern, so perhaps is not the best way to describe it. The rooms though, can be quite small compared to some.(but still a decent size).

On my first stay, I was allocated quite a pokey wee room and I said I was a little disappointed. The bell boy told me it was probably the smallest room in the hotel and there are only about 5 this size. Dont get me wrong, it was still okay, but for a 5 star hotel, I suppose it was my expectations that let me down, not the hotel.

Anyways, I said that it was suitable and they gave me a free upgrade to the Platinum rooms which are on the new wing. A MASSIVE difference.

If you look at their website, their standard rooms in the old tower are actually quite spacious, its just if you are unlucky and are allocated one of the smaller rooms (you will know if you have been given one!!)

Im quite surprised, but anytime I brought someone back, there was no request to submit their ID to reception. Thats fine if everything goes okay, but I was a wee bit nervous on one occasion, so I escorted her to her car to make sure she didn't cause any silly damage. http://www.bangkokladyboys.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=48

Plus no joiners in a 5 star hotel ! You just gotta love Thailand :D

Am I glad that I logged on to Bangkok-Ladyboys today by chance?!!

Thanks LULT, I needed to book up for a 4 day stay in Bangkok in January, & fortunately I came across your thread. I have also booked up at the Grand Mercure Bangkok Asoke Residence (previously Sofitel). I normally stay at Nana Hotel, but on my last visit I got peeved off with the reception staff's attitude.

Thanks again, most appreciated.

So thats where you took your Nataile/Nicole lookalike. You see what I mean about them wanting more money when they find out where your staying! As I recall she, originally, wanted an exorbitant amount.

Thanks again for the heads up on this.

p.s. Also in negotiations with August suites in Patts for second leg of trip on your recommendation.

LOL. She didn't know where I stayed, she was just a bit of a chancer asking for silly money initially.

I always arranged the money first and refuse to discuss it again once the price agreed.

You will enjoy August Suites.

LBorGGloveemboth, Ive never stayed at the Asoke Hotel, so it would be good if you could give it a review when you have stayed if thats ok?

LULT,

I owe you one for recomending the Grand Sukhumvit. Just spent my first night on their special and was also given a free upgrade to a suite w kithen living room and bedroom. Have no idea why. Sweet hotel/room(s)/location. The info on this forum rocks. . Got in town just in time for 1 drink at cascades before the 2am parade. Met 2 hot little FL'ers, Emy and Jane, and will post some pics when I return. Quick note as I'm doing on iPhone. Special thanks to slamman and bigmic, all you info has prepared me well and it is much apprecited! There is so much talent here that I might throw away that list that I'm still not keeping. Oh well time for lunch at guess

Netty where are you? You were not at Cascades last night!

You are more than welcome mate. I learned of this hotel in a similar manner from the Pattaya-Addicts website. Its a superb location and nicely fitted out.

Mind take some pics of your room and perhaps a wee review if you have time (when you get home obviously! :) )

Hi Guys. I am a newbie and want to know if the Grand Sukhumvit on Soi 6 is close to Nana Plaza and LB friendly. Also will they allow multiple guests with no charge or hassle? Any advice or help would be apprecated since I have to book the hotel soon. My other choice of hotel is the President Palace on Soi 11.

Thanks

Yes I agree with LULT, Soi 6 is the place to be. First night I walked past Nana because I was not expecting it to be that close  and yet hotel isolated in ally (Soi 6). You will have to take LULT's word  on being allowed GG as all I dring back is LB 's two at a time. The staff does not bat an eye and they now take their ID. Some of the Arabs and a few others have given me and my LB'S the eye but I show them what I think by kissing them in these moments.

Thanks to you both for the info. I am happy to hear they allow multiple guests and there are no user fees. Also happy to hear there appears to be no hassle other than some disapproving looks from the Arabs, :-) !!!

Critical update to the joiner fee!!!!! I was bringing my 2nd LB for the night and was told that after  10:00 there was a one thousand baht joiner fee!!! I informed the man that I had been bring in guest all week after this time witout the fee. He said that was an error and I should have been charged. I got the fee waived for this one time knowing I was checking out the next morning. So I would get this in writing next time. Excelent hotel except for this one incident and this hotel will go into the banned catagory unless this is untrue and we had a bad nightman. I will call ahead of time before booking again

I had no problems with the Grand Suk this week, and would recommend to anyone on this board. I had a couple of 2 per night (at diff times) and no issues signing in after 10 pm. I had also registered to 2 guests; when I checked in the clerk stated, I see you have reserved a room for 2, I understand your guest will be arriving later and just remember to sign her in at the concierge when she arrives.

THis is an interesting twist Up2You and one that rings a bell from a story from a BM on the Pattaya LB (or maybe the GG Addicts site)??

The BM was challenged in a similar manner where he had been bringing guests back without problems on previous trips and no one had said to him on his most recent trip.

He brought a girl back and the manager said he would need to pay 1000 baht. The BM made a fuss (quite rightly I would say) saying this has never been the case before and he has no intention to start paying it now, UNLESS, the manager can show him something in writing that joiner fees apply and that he had signed the terms / conditions of this.

The manager, like your story, said, "Ok no need to pay as there was a mistake for us not telling you".

Maybe there are a couple of staff members trying to scam money now and again??

I would certainly never pay it unless I was told about it, especially if I've specifically made a booking for "2 people" sharing room. I will usually bow down to paying joiner fees when I take 3sum/moresome groups back where the hotel insists that only one guest is free. That said, I had a couple of 3sums in the Grand Sukhumvit Accor Hotel last year and I was made more than welcome to do so at the hotel ;)

Thanks for letting us know Up2You.

Cheers

Well,

glad to say that my stay with the Accor Grand Sukhumvit, formerly Sofitel, Sukhumvit Road, Soi 6 was another winner for me (and my TGF who was with me this time).

We were given the complimentary upgrade to one of the Junior Suites on both stays (we stayed here at the beginning and at the end of our holiday). Staff are very professional and helpful and do not bat an eyelid when you come in all arms full of 7-11 carrier bags of budget drinks and snacks to stock the room up with.

The extra space of the living room and kitchen is a god send when you are travelling with someone. Unfortunately, no LB joined me in the room this time (but I did manage a quick visit along the road to Guess Bar when I sneaked out for a while ;) ).

I think this place comes into its own when it runs its promotion rates. IMHO, nowhere can come near to its VFM during these deals. This year was slightly more than the previous year. 2009 was 1330 baht per night (with free upgrade) and this year was 1700 baht (again, with free upgrade). The standard price is 3000 baht (early booking price) which, if you were unlucky enough to not be allocated an upgrade, the 3K would be better spent elsewhere. If you got one of the upgrade rooms for 3K, then I think that is on the money, but you don't know if you are getting that until you physically check-in.

Would I recommend : Hell Yeah :)

Positives : Location, High Quality finishings, friendly staff, no joiner

Negatives: None (if you get a promotion price)

Thanks for all the info. I used to stay at the Majestic Grande and have no problems with the staff but at 80 dollars per night I was wondering if this is more expensive than most hotels around? I like large rooms and the rooms here are of a very good size and it is very close to Nana too.

Thats a very good point mate.

I think if you don't get the free upgrade, then the standard price is not exactly worth it. If you get the upgrade, its a steal !

Obviously you will not know until check-in, so its always a gamble. However, to put it into perspective, I've stayed 5 times and been upgraded......5 times. I always travel fairly well dressed (but not shirt and tie obviously!) and am really friendly and polite at check in - for obvious upgrade reasons :)

3 of the times I've stayed were during the promotion time, so for well under 2000 baht and getting a junior suite, it just beggars belief the value for money.

I have never stayed in a suite there yet but was wondering about the hotels nearby like the Landmark etc? Are the rooms spacey and good like the Majestic Grande and what about the security and do they create problems etc?

Thanks

I stayed at the Accor Grand Suk last year (Dec 2009) and had no issues with bringin back guests. Reading this thread I decided to ask and see if their policy had changed. Looks like they are now charing a joiner fee. I'll go elsewhere.

email pasted below...

Dear Mr.Jose Singha,

The joiner will be charge at THB 1,000++ on room only/night.

Hello,

I am considering staying at your hotel later this month. Before I do so I want to ask about your policy on bringing guests back to the hotel. Are there any issues with bringing my friend, girl friend or a Lady Boy back to the room? Any joiner fees?

I love that hotel but they are now OFF the list ...

Thanks for the update JS

I will write them and tell them that... they have to know that they are losing business

Its a great hotel and they will change their policy back if they know that

I spent a night with Cartoon in that hotel ... it will always be special to me for that reason alone! What a special girl she is!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't get toooo upset by this (I hope!)

When I first stayed there a couple of years ago, I too asked them this question and was given the "1000 baht guest charge" by email. I think this is a 'we would prefer not to have mongers as customers', cos when I arrived a month later, I was bringing loads of guests back for one on ones and 3ways most nights and the reception did not challenge me at all.

I have read on-line somewhere that a manager did try to intervene with a guest asking for this elusive 1000 baht charge and the customer challenged him saying he wanted an official receipt on their headed paper to say EXACTLY what it was for. He said he was going to right to the CEO's of Accor about this 1000 baht charge. The manager quickly backed down saying he would let it go and no charge for guest for the customer !

The theory was for this was that Accor are a global company and has a corporate policy for all hotels, thus, no deviation by its local management to earn a quick buck to charge for prostitutes/casual guests. Its just not cricket for a company like that.

I was also there in March 2010 and took a girl back, again.....no pom pem :)

Fingers crossed that it remains as, like Up2You, is my favourite hotel in Bangkok, possibly Thailand.

Newbies will love this, as well as seasoned mongers. Only prob is, when you stay somewhere not so great on future visits, it can make you feel you wish you were back at the Grand Suk !

I think you will find that that the deal is on standard rooms. There are two towers in this hotel and one tower is better than the other. However, everytime I've stayed here (3 times now), I put an email into them saying its a special occasion and ask to be put on a upgrade list if possible. Give them a phone a couple of days before you arrive and remind them (upgrades are decided on the day of check-in). Then get into them again when you check-in. Its really worth it as the suites are superb. For me, it just makes the whole BKK experience so much more amazing.

I've had multiple guests back at one time and no need for joiners. One could say that the downside is that they don't take your guests ID card.

I've heard through a couple of forums that they have received emails from the hotel saying they charge 1000 baht per guest/joiner, but this is bollocks. I also read on a forum where a duty manager tried to blag a joiner fee from someone and the farang said he would take his name and verify that Accor group are charging their guests 1000 baht to have prostitutes in their premises. This was quickly reversed and the duty manager didn't bother him again. I've stayed in this place for a total of about 6 weeks now, and I've never seen anyone being approached or charged a joiner.

The great things is there is a 7/11 next door to the hotel, so easy to stock up on cheap supplies :)

There is also a good laundry further up the lane (away from Soi 4). As you come out the hotel, turn right, walk past the wee food vendor and turn right down a dead-end alleyway. About the third house on the right is a great laundry service.

The gym in the hotel is ample.

Hope you get booked, you will love it.

Cheers

LULT
