sydney69er 1,914 #1 Posted November 30 (edited) I found a little hidden gem right at the end of Soi 1 Suk - Thanaka Myanmar Restaurant. A very basic restaurant quite busy with local Burmese. This was my first time trying Burmese food and I was blown away with the flavours. And this place is a 'cheap eats'. I just had the Chicken Curry (110B), 20B for rice, comes with a nice chicken soup. Wow. I think it was so different from Thai food. Not close to anything I've eaten before. The evil looking curry sauce is spicy but not overpowering, so you still get a hit from all the different flavours - garlic, ginger, lemongrass and whatever they put in it. Best thing about this place is it's only 90 Baht for a large Singha. I'm going back for more! Burmese food is delicious and has become a favourite of mine over the last few years and there seems to be restaurants popping up all over Bangkok, probably due to the war in Myanmar. For anyone who hasn't tried Burmese food yet, I thoroughly recommend it. I'll add a few other recommendations here after watching the football, including a Burmese craft beer bar/restaurant that could be a decent introduction to anyone curious about trying that type of food the first time. 3 Bwana_LB, NaamBlaa and sydney69er reacted to this
NaamBlaa 9 #3 Posted November 30 I've never been there. Is it new? I'll definitely try it the next time I visit I love Burmese food and while I lived in BK I would seek out and try many Burmese restaurants. From the pictures it seems like Thanaka is similar to Shwe Htee which is just off of Asok - https://maps.app.goo.gl/oRitMYBCrPNgrGy66 By far my favorite is Kalyana on Ratchprarop Rd north of Central World, near the airport link railway https://maps.app.goo.gl/9dPugnADY5BcQWQ47 It's slightly more upscale compared to Thanaka and Shwe Htee with a wider variety of dishes. Best to go with a few people so you can order and sample more dishes. Amazing food. 3 Genghis, Bwana_LB and sydney69er reacted to this

Burbrit? - if so, I really like that place. Great venue to watch sports and Otto bar only 20 yards away! 1 Genghis reacted to this

Good beers and food, including some Burmese options. Nice staff as well. 1 MarkSussex reacted to this
Genghis 2,984 #7 Posted December 1 I was going to write up the usual long and rambling post about Burmese food in Bangkok as it's something that I've really started to like eating recently but I'm both busy and feeling lazy today. Anyway, instead of writing too much I thought it would be easier just to post a YouTube video from a guy who has done several guides to Burmese food in BKK and they have helped me find this stuff. I will call out one place though that isn't on the video. The restaurant is Feel Myanmar (in Pratunam but worth the short trip) and it's probably my favourite Burmese restaurant. I eat here whenever possible even if it means coming up with an excuse to drag the Mrs to this part of town and then say "we may as well eat here again". https://maps.app.goo.gl/t1t2HT3kfpLCNKoTA As @MarkSussex mentioned earlier Burbrit on Soi 22 is a good place. It's a Burmese/British craft beer bar that serves some decent Burmese food as well as the usual bar food so could be a good first introduction to anyone curious about trying this type of food. The beers are good, the staff are nice and the happy hour is pretty long for anyone looking for a cheap option. https://maps.app.goo.gl/rzhn8WDrNPV8L7Mw7 4 Mark22, MarkSussex, sydney69er and 1 other reacted to this
