Genghis 2,877 #1 Posted October 2 (edited) I'm not really sure whether it's worth me making a recommendation for this place here due it not being in Lower Sukhumvit so it'll be inconvenient for people staying in the mongering epicentre. However, it's just a short walk from Saphan Thaksin BTS and would be very convenient if people are heading towards the riverfront and major tourist attractions in that part of town. It's also worth the short trip on the train if you wanted to eat something outstanding at low prices before exploring somewhere different. My real reason for recommending this place is that I'm getting very close to my next trip to Bangkok and both my Mrs and myself are craving a meal here. I think she might even be looking forward to it more than done of the excellent food her mother cooks so it's highly recommended by us both. Anyway, Amin Biryani is quite a famous place in it's own way. It was open for decades in a different location but has now relocated since COVID caused it to close. The food is Southern Thai Muslim food with amazing biryanis and curries. The food is unusually spiced for a lot of Thai food but avoids being extremely hot from chillies so would be accessible to most farang, especially those who like good Indian food as there are some similarities while remaining noticeably Thai. Another reason for me recommending this place now is that the (often irritating but still very popular) youtuber Mark Wiens has recently done a video here. That can be good and bad in my opinion. I like to see them get exposure from a very successful media source but hopefully it doesn't result in it becoming too popular causing it to raise prices, lower standards or both. If you fancy trying out one of my favourite street food places anywhere in Thailand (while it's still cheap and has excellent standards) I can't recommend this place highly enough. Easily in my top 10 cheap eats in Bangkok. Amin Biryani is located here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/RD1VKwxLDL3ZsGx26 Apologies for posting one of his videos but it gives a good overview of the food if you skip through his gurning at the camera. SAGuy 13,084 #2 Posted October 2 Thanks @Genghis I can feel a great series coming up.... @Genghis Top 10 Cheap Eats With a run down on what you scoffed, menus, photos and of course points out of 10 given by you and Mrs @Genghis. Maybe a few varied cuisines and dishes? I think BMs would love it and if I can cure my phobia of travelling beyond soi 22, I'd also go and have a butchers at them. Just a suggestion. SAG Maybe I could do that but I'm very conscious of the fact that most BMs don't want to or simply don't have time to leave the prime LB hunting ground for food. The same thing was often true for me on my mongering visits. Also, I'm not sure how many BMs would be interested in trying out local food so much anyway but if there's interest I could give more recommendations. Apologies to those who aren't interested of course. It's quite funny and maybe tragic for me to think of the change from when I was single and travelling to Bangkok at least partly for mongering. The final day or two before leaving and especially the moments between landing and getting to the hotel would be filled with me thinking which girl(s) I'm going for first if possible. Nowadays before my recent trips I'm thinking about where to eat and which bars I'll be going to instead. Admittedly my craving for a biryani at Amin's isn't close to my craving for a LT with Gina or Ploy when Thailand was reopening after COVID but still I'm quite hungry. Unavowed 1,413 #4 Posted October 3 The Ban Rak area is also great to visit. Short walk to Talat Noi and then up to China Town. It’s good to have these reviews as I like to take a break from lower Suk. One of my favourite spots even though focused on tourists is Jacks Bar which is not far away. Just a great spot if you want a few relaxed afternoon beers by the river. Cheap prices, decent food and opposite Icon Siam where you can watch the comings and goings on the Chai Phraya. 1 Genghis reacted to this

sydney69er 1,885 #6 Posted October 3 Bangrak is a very interesting area - alot of Chinese business along the road. I've stayed a few times at the Hilton Garden Inn at the end of Silom Road which is a short walk to Bangrak. The Shangri-la is also in that area, just up from Jack's Bar. There is a little Dim Sum restaurant called Little Dragon worth a visit if you like Yum Cha. 50 Baht a pop for their steamed dishes. Agreed Mark Weins is very annoying especially when he makes that yummy face. He needs a knuckle sandwich when he does that. 3 Rocco, Genghis and Unavowed reacted to this

Thanks for the tip, I'll give that a try for sure. My favourite cheap Yum Cha place is called Tuang but at those prices in Little Dragon I'm going to have to investigate even if already full from all the other temptations nearby. If you haven't tried Tuang I'd recommend it highly btw, It's a casual place that's owned by a guy that was previously the top chef in a really posh Chinese hotel and you can see the quality without paying through the nose for it. It's located just behind Asiatique (that's somewhere that I am not a fan of generally BTW). https://maps.app.goo.gl/ckLnA33trsGeENmW9 1 sydney69er reacted to this

For very good Dim Sum in the LB Triangle, Hong Teh in the Ambassador Hotel on Soi 11 is excellent. They got a very good Dim Sum chef. I've been there 3 times and will visit on each trip. It is not cheap but top quality. The BBQ Baked Pork Pies are sensational! 1 Genghis reacted to this

The only thing that makes it in any way bearable for me when he does that is the certain knowledge that deep down he regrets ever having started doing that stupid face and how much he must hate having to still do it every time. 1 sydney69er reacted to this

Judging by your username I'll give that a go to as a recommendation. My yum cha love first began in Sydney and it'll always be something I associate with living there. 1 sydney69er reacted to this

Many of the top Dim Sum chefs in Hong Kong migrated to Australia before China took over. 1 Genghis reacted to this
