Bars with live Rock or Metal music - Bangkok

Hi there,

Can anyone advice me good bars with Rock or Metal live music?
I found "Otto" but .....

Thanks

There's the Rock Pub in Phaya Thai near the BTS so it's just a short trip from Nana. It seems to have a good reputation and I know people that go there occasionally. I think they regularly have bands on as I've walked past a lot when living nearby in Ari.

My experience is limited to popping in for a beer or two one day to get out of the rain and just to have a look around. Not my kind of music so didn't hang around and can't say more than that.

There's Speakerbox in Thonglor too. That's a good live music bar but it generally tends more to the Indie end of the spectrum with occasional bands that might appeal to a metal fan. Check it out online maybe and they might have something you like coming up.

Places like Hilary's on Soi 4 who have cover bands often focus more on classic rock stuff of course and are always a good place to have a drink.

Not necessarily answering your question, and don’t know how often or when you are in Bangkok…but below is my Christmas present to myself this year.  Tickets not all that cheap, especially at the top end…the bookies have stopped taking bets on if he will play track 2 of his Skills in Pills album…

If you can settle for non-live, but great rock music with a view, you can try Angelwitch in Nana Plaza

I visited there in the past quite regularly, mainly because of the music. Girl (all GGs), are less pushy than average in NEP ;)

Angel Witch …a classic NWOBHM band!

Um. Good for you. You paid a lot for a shit over the hill band. And you're right. Nowhere near on topic. Weisses Fleisch! Weisses Fleisch!

Sorry i dont normally hate on musical taste. But you used this post to as an opportunity for braggadocio. Not impressed. Don't care. Unless Rammstein is playing at Chang Arena in Buriram......

Green Room on Soi 7/1. Rock Pub a bit out of the way near Sanam Pao BTS. This place is best for original hard rock and metal. Fun to see the Thais all decked out in metal gear.

A bunch of places on Khao San Rd. Hillary2 on Soi 4. Hillary.

Mostly terrible cover bands but can be fun. I prefer to see Maftsai wherever they are playing, usually at Paradise Bangkok.

Not live but a great place for rock music - I love 23 Bar Gallery with djs, rock, punk, soul, britpop nights etc. A bit of same vibe as Poor Cow in Tokyo.

Small and intimate and always a friendly bunch of people and staff.

To be honest, Thailand is about the last place I think of for good local bands. A lot of the live acts are touring bands from the Philippines. I prefer listening to a good recorded playlist in a bar than to mediocre-to-shitty live music that puts my ears on edge.

For whatever reason I tend to inhabit bars with live music in Patts rather than in BKK. I go for my nightly dose of Hotel California!

I would have to say that most of the bands I encounter are of average quality. The exception to that rule was, in the past, the band at Hot Tuna Bar in Walking St Patts. They played a lot of 70's and 80's stuff which helps. The members are /were from Fili Land. They quit during C----d days. I found one of them in a bar in Vietnam. Had a chat and moved on. I found a band in Soi 8 that was better than average.

The band which hangs out at the Triangle Bar in Soi Pothole I would rate as above average.

I will have to do a search in BKK.
