Travelling to Bangkok in low season

Recommended Posts

Hello there,

I'm planning to visit Bangkok next year in the low season, in July. I don't like so many people and I saw that July is not a rainy month. And the flight and hotels prices are not so high.

Is that true? Do you recommend Bangkok in July?

July is right in the middle of low season so might suit your needs.

July is in the rainy season. While it's generally not as rainy as September you'll probably get rain at some point most days. Most of the downpours will be brief and quickly forgotten once the sun comes back out.

I personally always enjoyed visiting during the rainy season as much as any other time - it actually has quite a few advantages so some people prefer it. There is never a bad season to go to Thailand, if you go there with some money and a positive attitude you can always have a lot of fun.

I totally agree with the above. I've visited many times in both, low and high season. Specifically July, not since 2017, but more recent in June and August. Just got home from 2,5 week trip Aug/Sept. And to answer your question:

Yes, it does rain most days. But did it obstruct any of my plans: no!  Just bring a good umbrella, or buy one on the ground (bought mine at Robinsons, corner of Soi 15), and you're good to go!

Prices for hotels are definitely more appealing in the low season! :)

One good thing about going in the low season is that the bars will be relatively empty, compared to the high season and you can have a larger selection of girls.

Though when I went to CIB11, it was always full the last few times I went!!

So yes, anytime of the season is great. I myself prefer the low season as relatively less crowds!!

I was in Bangkok the last 2 weeks of July this year. Lovely! While it is start of rainy season, it only rained a few times during the day. Do expect the odd late afternoon shower or evening shower but they only last 20 minutes or so. Same same for August. I was there first week of September and had alot of rain. Many mega lightning storms that lasted an hour or more 4 days in a row before I left. Thunder and lightning, very very frightening!

I think you'll enjoy the low season in July.

I’m biased but I like BKK year round. The only time I’m really not a fan is pretty much from now. Towards the end of December is the highest of seasons, and things get a little silly in terms of prices and how busy everything is. This period is technically high “season”, but the drop off after New Years is always remarkable.

They trickle in through Late November but they vanish like a fart in the wind the instant that Christmas-NYE party period finishes.

As for the rain… I like it. I got nowhere to be. I’ll sit and have a coffee or a beer, or get a foot massage, while I watch people struggle damply through the streets. (Word to the wise, buy a GOOD umbrella. Not some 7-11 jobbie. It makes a world of difference.)

Or do what @Denbosch1971 does, borrow a decent one from the hotel and proceed to continuously leave them at CS11!

Hahaha ... good memory :D  At a given point in time, I had a hotel umbrella waiting for me at Why Not, at CIB and at Cindy's :P

The clerk at the hotel was quite confused when I collected them on a night and returned all of them at the same time

But @naughtydog-bkk is right. After that I bought myself a decent one and have a girl at WN keeping it for me ;)
