Minimum Financial Proof Required

According to Thailand’s official e-Visa portal, applicants must now provide “Financial evidence: an amount of no less than 20,000 THB (e.g., bank statements for the last three months, sponsorship letter).” This translates to approximately USD 550 or EUR 510, though exchange rates may vary.

  • Travellers must demonstrate at least 20,000 THB (~USD 550) in available funds.
  • Acceptable documents include:
    • Bank statements from the last three months
    • A sponsorship letter, if someone else is supporting your travel

This requirement is now clearly listed on Thailand’s official e-Visa website and is being enforced by Thai embassies worldwide, including those in the United States, France, and Norway.

Hardly a ground breaking sum and of no concern to the average tourist from most countries who do not need to apply in advance for a visa.

As magoo points out, not new just a reinstated policy now they are going high tech with immigration.

Yes, I agree. In general I would say Thai love to implement new rules and conditions, but adhering and/or enforcing them is a whole different story :o

I still remember visiting BKK in April 2022, just in the Covid afterpains. It was mandatory to do a (negative) Covid test before departure in the home country. Upon arrival in the hotel another test was required and leaving room was only allowed after this result was negative as well. The QR code should be scanned into an app and the result was recorded. On day 5, a second test was mandatory.

The tests before departure were a piece of cake. But when arriving in Thailand, it started! It took me about 4 times to install the app, after several technical issues, wifi-black outs etc. But once installed, it wouldn't accept the QR code of my test. So in the end, didn't record anything and I think the '5-day' test is still somewhere in a drawer here at my house. But nobody seemed to care and I didn't have anyone bothering me about it at all :D

But then again ... when tourist read all the guidelines, without knowing the context, they might doubt to choose the LoS simply to avoid the hassle.

Anyone not having 20,000THB should stay at home … 555

You can go right through the e-visa and there's no mention of proof of funds .

Typical Thailand. This is correct--no mention of funds on the e-visa application.
