Knobby 219 #1 Posted February 25, 2024 Without revealing all my plans I will be going to Thailand intending to stay up to a year starting from June. I won't reveal how I am going to do it yet but I have this question, Being English and with a UK passport, We all know I will get the standard 30 days ( unless it's still at 90? which was temporary) So I will be leaving Heathrow on a one-way ticket. I did this before in 2019 but I did have a ticket (genuine) to Cambodia as I had a week there. The bloke at the check-in desk picked up right away that I was on a single and said I couldn't enter Thailand on a one-way ticket. I had the Camboida ticket so I showed him the booking as he was happy. This time however is different, the visa I hope to get means my passport will be sent away and I will get a 90-day extension while the visa gets issued. How to get out of Heathrow on a one-way ticket? Any tips apart from actually buying a genuine ticket which I will end up not using and is a waste of money? 1 katana57 reacted to this

Better than my suggestion to book a cheap flight and not turn up or a flexible flight with arefundable fareSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 katana57 reacted to this
farangkeenok 108 #5 Posted February 26, 2024 Well I'm not sure why the secrecy about how you're going to do it but would be interested to know if you've found some trick to beat the system lol. But the best option IMO, more so than the $10 24 hour ticket sites is just to book a legit ticket on a higher fare class which is fully refundable. I booked one with Emirates last year to get a visa at a local consulate then just cancelled and got a full refund after the visa was issued.

Mark22 464 #9 Posted January 21 I've travelled before to BKK on a one way ticket, but also had a ticket out booked as well. However no one asked about the return ticket, so how did they know it existed or would it somehow appear on the airlines systems even though I was using different airlines ? Reason for asking is I want to book another one way but as I'm not sure how long I'm staying and so would prefer not to book a return until I'm ready. I'm guessing booking the fully refundable return ticket is probably still the best option. Just checked with Emirates and a Flex Plus ticket states Complimentary Cancellation/ or 300US Cancellation charge if you're a no show. Seems you have to go to Modify My Booking to request the cancellation and then complete an online refund form as well. All this seems a pain and of course have to shell out the 37,565 Baht for the ticket as well.

My concern would be getting rumbled at Thai Immigration and then as you've basically cheated the system getting refused entry. Has anyone heard of that ever happening ? Just checked my last Digital Arrival card and onward travel is definitely required on the form.

I've been asked once or twice when I'm leaving Thailand and have showed them my (genuine) return flight booking in an app. They're not going to get it forensically analysed, all they want to know is if you're a genuine tourist and not going to overstay. If you're really worried then book the cheapest flight you can find to Cambodia, Malaysia or Indonesia. 1 Mark22 reacted to this

The TDAC, Thailand Digital Arrival Card does asks you. I had a friend come in December he left it blank he said they asked him about the out bound flight for the first time in over a decade of coming here. He got in without much trouble saying he was going to travel around and wasn’t sure of the exact dates but they told him in future he should book one. 1 Mark22 reacted to this
Mark22 464 #14 Posted January 24 Thanks to everyone who's responded and the good advice. On this occasion I've decided that what will make me feel most comfortable is to book the refundable fully flexible Emirates ticket. I'll choose a date somewhere near the end of the 60 days tourist visa which will mean I've actually got a ticket out of dodge should I need it at short notice, although the plan is still to refund it and purchase a cheaper one at some point.
