Bangkok During the Corona Crisis

Officially that is good but I am not so sure how well policed the borders are....within Chiang Rai there are many ways of crossing over that get given a blind eye.

In Mae Sot (Tak province) there's basically a narrow canal between TH & Burma, a wooden bridge to cross. People from either side cross over at will.

An LB sent me a copy of her monthly rent statement when she needed to pay rent and was hoping I would send the Western Union cavalry to the rescue ( I told her sorry, no can do).  As I recall, the water charge was like 900 baht and electricity was 1500 baht or so on top of the rent. Her place is small 2 rooms with one toilet. It just seemed like quite a bit for a place like that. I am guessing either the landlord must have "sweetened" the utility charges a bit or the LB was running a scam. I tend to believe the landlord was greedy.

The PEA charges around 3.8 baht per unit in this area. Landlords often jack the rate up to 8 baht and even 10 baht. A couple of years ago a law was passed saying owners of 10 units or more could not inflate the electric/ water prices. My building has 250+ units and charges 8 baht. Must be some loophole as the same same company owns 3 other complexes as well.

I have seen soi Nana and the hotel car park at 6am,  which is usually the most quietest time it is likely to be, it was a like a football crowd in comparison to these pics.....sad to see.

Indeed...:(

Also sad to see that it's particularly the poor people who are often affected most by the crisis, like these nice people from the Klong Toey community:

The staff at one of the Nana area restaurants uses the idle time to fix the sidewalk / pavement in front of the shop:

During normal times they wouldn't be able to do this...
