  1. Been meaning to try this place for a few years and never managed to get there until this last Sunday. Pretty sure it used to be on the other side of Sukhumvit directly under the BTS but never mind. Located about 150m into the soi and on same side as the Westin & Robinson department store. It is very narrow and very easy to miss especially like us you're coming by taxi. The pub is nicely kitted out in traditional British style and has full range of local beer but did not spot any imported beers like Killkenny/Guinness. 'er indoors and myself were joined by Youngone and as it was Sunday I was keen to try the roast. I ordered roast beef and was very satisfied with it. Youngone has chicken Kiev which was swimming in garlic butter but looked appetizing and the missus had Tom Yum Goong. The total biill came to 1500b for the 3 of us including a drink each. I'd certainly return. Pic is of my roast beef and a few others taken from their website which is here:- http://www.blackswanbangkok.com/
  2. That site had been said was leased/bought by Land&House PLC (Centrepoint, Terminal 21 owners). Presumably sub let it while the lengthy environmental impact studies get done (yes apparently they do them, not that there is much evidence of it). Good idea to bring bit life back to that area.
  3. Not even sure if this is name anymore as I think it was taken over a while ago. Been a while since I've been in here. First time I was alone and had the Swedish meatballs served with mashed potato (suberb mash) and a creamy sauce. Quite edible but nothing wow. Second time my partner in crime for Sunday lunch feigned off with a hangover, so me & mrs M set out to fins something. Ended up here just because we were too knackered in the glaring mid day sun to go any further. I should say I am not the biggest fan of carvery's. Infact I try to avoid them as I tend to find the food is stale/cold/manky looking (or any or all of the 3). I should have listened to my brain, but ordered the roast beef only to be given a ticket and told the carvery is inside (we were sat outside). So I take said ticket and got my roast beef plus copious vegetables, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, gravy, Roast potato etc etc. Got back to the table and it was lukewarm at best, cold at worst in part. Probably didn't help having a huge aircon unit positioned just behind the serving area and a severe lack of decent heated food warmers. Anyhow I was starving so ate some of it. The supposedly imported beef was well done and local. The rest of it was all good - just cold. If it had been hot and/or served and plated from the kitchen, it would probably be a rave review. Not sure I'd hurry back. About 350b from memory. The food here used to be superb but I know it has changed hands. Does anyone know if this is one of the venues bought by Eclipse Group who seem to have bought up pretty much every pub in lower Sukhumvit? Maybe one for Youngone.

By way I booked cheapest room and while it had everything, it was tiny room. Next time i'll book larger room. Deluxe category I think they are called.

Zen Rooms /Best hotel for Check inn bar

The 2 shophouses in between Paradiso and Cosy@ten have been completely gutted. I guess a small hotel will fill the space. Paradiso operating as normal. I stayed there and no work is going on this week but that could all change in 1 day.
  7. I walked past the location one afternoon maybe 2 months ago after stop at Villa supermarket. I was surprised they are still going. Have to say though that wooden entrance door is awesome. Need to find wood shop able to make similar for my house.
  8. The bus station in Pattaya while in the city is not on the 'strip'. I can't think of anything worse than walking it even without a suitcase. Just use the baht bus for probably 20-50b to get to your hotel. The bus from Ekamai is fine and safe. Allow 2-3 hours though. Ive never done it any quicker (aside from a car direct).

    Cathay Pacific seat options

Some stupid cheap Qatar fares at moment. Might be worth pricing Chiang mai -usa and see what it throws up. I get u tapao ads on newspaper sites and fares are low (I once searched utapoa-lhr hence the ads).

    Cathay Pacific seat options

While Cathay is my favourite overall airline, it has to be said it is not because of the legroom in economy. Its terrible. Seat comfortable but space is poor. Great if your small but not ideal for western frame. No idea though about Asiana as comparison as never flown them. Cathay scores highly for me in air crew, cabin crew, aircraft, premium classes. Economy doesn't make the grade.
  12. I stayed at Cozy @ Ten this last weekend for 2 nights. For the price (1400b net) I was impressed. I'd been allocated a 6th floor room on a smoking floor. The bonus was it has a balcony which are only in 6th floor rooms. Non smoking floors are 2,3,4. The room I got was at the rear, so overlooked CIB. Rooms at front (1600b) overlook Chuwit Park and are larger. Comfortable bed, Decent aircon, free wifi, decent hot shower. Had everything I look for. Also had safe in the room. Onsite Italian restaurant is decent and very cheap. I had Pasta Carbonara and it was 170 baht and pretty decent to eat. Hotel has some neat lift which is basically a moving floor and doors that lock until the floor arrives on your floor. Reminded me of a French apartment building from years ago, albeit this lift system looks brand new. I'd stay here again without 2nd thought. The missus loved the bed and rated it almost as good as the one in our house. You can see the 2 pics are different sized rooms. The smaller is same as we had (at the back) - the larger are at the front as I took a peek when a maid was cleaning one. Rooms at the front are likely quieter for quirky reason. At the back you can hear all the various aircon units and restaurant extractors going on like an ensemble. Not such an issue with window/balcony door closed but very noticeable when you step outside. No such vents at the front. Apparently, This hotel is well used to CIB LB's visiting according to the info my GF fed me. So presumably it is very LB friendly. From the back door, it is about 25 feet away from CIB front door. Room at the back (1400b) Room at the front (1600b)
  13. They are 6 foot wide/2m beds - that is King size in most countries but not all.
  14. Just read that description. All rooms that have a balcony (6th floor) are smoking rooms. None are non smoking. Just small observation if it is important. I always just book direct via email on hotel website. I got an early impression that is what they prefer and have always found them very amenable but I've personally never taken back 2 LB's at same time but I'm sure plenty have. You may find extra towels maybe an issue once the room maids have finished for the day but again it's just an impression. . Again no idea what 3rd party sites offer but direct I get breakfast included(2 people) in the rate.

    Christmas Lunch <1000 THB

IF it' still there, the Black Swan in Soi 19 maybe worth a look. No idea other than the roast I had there circa 2 or 3 years ago was very good. Given it's just off the main Sukhumvit - prices maybe lower than others. It's just a gut feeling but probably worth doing some googling. Huntsman pub maybe another option and frequently does bring 4 pay for 2 deals - even on key days. Thanksgiving dinner was something like 800b head that way, assuming 4 people. Not cheap but better than 1600b head otherwise.
  16. Been in here a few times now. First time tried a pizza. Not so great but edible. Just looked undercooked to my eye and too much cheese for my taste. Some may love 'em. They are cheap at like 200 baht. Beef Lasagne comes in a ceramic bowl/pot and I found it really good. 200baht. Had it twice now. Carbonara. Quite surprised how good it was. Bit too much sauce for my liking but good taste. 170baht Garlic bread - forget it, it's awful, toasted one side and chewy sweet Thai bread. Bolognaise - had this today before heading back to home and found it very edible. 170baht. The missus likes the Thai food and she also had various different salads which were also good. No aircon, maybe 6 tables in total. Not a glam place but food is reasonable considering not too much choice in the area for 'easy food' aside from Subway and KFC. Have never actually looked at drink prices but must have been reasonable as total bill was always in the ballpark I'd be expecting. Good and cheap is my summary. Just don't expect anything great.

    Hotel near cirb

Yup. Cozy at ten. Ticks all my boxes for one or two night stays and just 1400/1600b night including a mediocre breakfast but at least coffee is decent.

    Rooftop bars

I had dinner at Galeria on the rooftop which presumably is same as bar area. We were the only people there circa 2030. The food was fine -just main course selection of nibble food. Stifling hot outside the air con area but that could have been due to hot season more than anything. While there was nothing wrong with the food I've not been back. Worth try but don't have high expectations of it. Lebua it ain't.

    Rooftop bars

The rooftop bar at Sofitel opposite soi 10 is supposed to be very good. But never gotten that far to see it myself.
  20. Yes they have stocked mini bar/fridge plus safety box/safe in wardrobe. No idea about massage as never enquired.

    Park Plaza Hotel ( asoke/sukhumvit)

No it is on the main Asoke Road between Sukhumvit and Rama 4 roads. It is on the even side of the street, so in theory it is soi 14, but I think there is already a soi 14 Soi 16 is across the busy dual carriageway. Never stepped foot inside but driven past numerous times.

    Don Mueang Airport Delays

I'm pretty sure as a multiple hundred time user of Don Muang airport that this only affects people using the free road. The expressway above it has its own ramp that comes out by the cargo terminal as indicated in the article. If anyone knows anymore feel free to correct my understanding, but if using the toll way, it appears nothing much if anything will change.

soi 10 to don maung airport

The problem is not getting to the airport at that time, its easy 20-30 mins, it is getting through Immigration that maybe the headache. 4.30am is time, i'd leave. Hopefully immigration is light on queues and plenty time for coffee. On numerous flights out of Don Muang I came very close to missing flights in the past purely because of bottle necks at Immigration.
  24. The park is closed for supposed renovations. Chuwit the guy who owns it is now out of prison as well. No idea what the future holds for it.
