Definitely not a new build. I made my first stay here back in 2012 or 2013.
Rooms used to have carpet but they had a bad plumbing issue which resulted in backups and soiling of carpets. For the first few years there were mildew issues in the rooms as a result. They fixed the plumbing problem then ripped the blue carpet out of all the rooms.
I can also confirm this is a great choice if you're looking for a pool area with ample morning sun.
One other added benefit is they usually have a tuktuk that will take you to the top of Soi 11. I've also had the TT transfer me over to Westin (both Aloft and Westin are part of Marriott chain) without issue. Just toss the driver a small tip and they'll be eager to hook you up.
Marriott Plats always get a welcome drink voucher and free breakfast along with the welcome points. For those using Bonvoy points, it's tough to beat the value at Aloft 11.
