Makkasan to Nana - Taxi or MRT/BTS?

Cheers all guys. I don't know what FOB stands for. Thought about Phaya Thai just thought Makkasan and taxi et al might be quicker - but as you say, PT then BTS is easier. Only a few short days and its wheels up...CIB my first stop - Why Not my second.......
  2. Hi All, Just a quick question on traffic and the best way to get to Nana BTS from Makkasan station. I'm using the ARL from Swampy to Makkasan and my hotel is on Suk Soi 7/1 (so right next to Nana BTS). Looking at the map, it seems that a taxi would be best as its basically down Asok-Montri then turn into Suk at T21. My concern is that as I land at 15.15 it'll be around 16.30-17.00ish (or Rush Hour) when I come out at Makkasan - so bearing in mind Bangkok traffic can be mental I wonder what would be the quickest way - a Taxi or the MRT/BTS combo?? I don't have a lot of luggage (carry bag and medium suitcase) so if the taxi got stuck at say Soi 10 Suk - I would happily walk the 5 mins or so to Nana and walk over the bridge - I just think walking with a suitcase from Asok would be just a tad to long. Grateful for your thoughts - Oh and it'll be a Friday as well (so weekend traffic at Rush Hour...) Mattski
  3. Hi all, Bit of a newbie (and tech dumb) question. I have an iPhone6 from the UK on the 3 Network which I have unlocked for roaming. My situation is that I am coming to Thailand in May on the sly and still wish to be in contact with the wife - she is Thai so calling direct is not gonna work as she'll wonder why the area code 0066 (for Thailand) is coming up when I should be in India (that's my cover story). So I figure I can use the Line and Messenger (facebook) apps to send messages and do internet face-time phone calls, so she won't know where I am. Naturally, using roaming on a UK phone on a UK data plan is massively expensive. Is it best to get a Thai SIM that I can put in my UK phone?? any thing else I should get?? My worries/queries are: - If I change the sim will I not lose all the stuff (contacts/line/facebook messengers) that I have set up on my phone already or will they stay - I'm staying in Bangkok (soi 7 for the first 5 days) so where is the nearest place to buy a SIM etc - Terminal 21, PanThip, MBK - or the Airport before I get a taxi to the hotel?? At suggestions are greatly appreciated - essentially I want to use my UK Phone but have access to the internet (without the roaming internet charges on the UK data plan) to make calls back to the UK via internet Apps. Hope that's makes sense. Thanks for any suggestions - I've added this to both the Bangkok and Pattaya sites - but its in Bangkok where I start off my adventure. Regards Mattski
  4. Hi all, Can you advise what the WiFi was like here, I ask as I'll be making lots of facetime/line video calls to the UK, so want to make sure the WiFi is up to scratch (I was thinking of iCheckinn soi7 but heard the WiFi is not that great). Thanks for any assistance or further recommendations. Mattski
