A few apps for the guys on the ground to try out. They all work the same. Basically you book the taxi via the app and wait for a driver to accept your booking. Once accepted both parties can see each others location on their phones so you know exactly how far off the taxi is to picking you up. You don't need to pay the driver with cash as your credit card is saved in the app. Uber : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ubercab https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/uber/id368677368?mt=8 Grabtaxi: http://grabtaxi.com/bangkok-thailand/ Easytaxi : http://www.easytaxi.com/

I came across this site www.roomertravel.com Looks it is for people who are stuck with non-refundable hotel room bookings and can't get rid of them. I checked and there are a few for BK. I haven't had a chance to compare prices but might be a bargain to be had?

I am looking at this as a challenge. A challenge to find the most passable LB in BKK and get her past reception without getting the "letter treatment" Game on!

I've used the Red Cross place before...highly recommended. Get off at Ratchadamri Station and then it's about a 600m walk (look for the 2 big water towers). After the first visit you get a card so you can skip a lot of the paperwork for the next visit. Results were sent to my email.

Yes but still cheap and worth it. Even if I am out on the turps on Sukhumvit with normal taxis everywhere I still order a grabcar so I can go back home in comfort.

Awesome...It's working! Thanks to whoever did what

18 months later and still fucked for me...How bout you guys?

I always use it when I am there. I get the private cars(Grab Car)...not the normal taxis. Always nice unmarked cars with leather seats and drivers who speak fluent English.

Probably an ad blocker or flash problem. 1)Use another browser 2)Use a disposable email like https://www.guerrillamail.com/ -
I have the same problem Davvvid. Have not been able to log onto the forum with Tapatalk for months.

I've used purevpn on both computer and phone..works great. The cost is about $8USD / month. Make sure you cancel the autocharge if you use paypal for any of the vpns as most like to debit your account every month automatically.

I noticed the sign for this place on street view so I had a look at their website : http://www.shama.com/sukhumvit/ The location is on the same street as the Majestic Grande but closer towards Sukhumvit. The rooms look nice and are priced well compared to some I have looked at. At the moment a one bedroom apartment (66 square metres) costs AUD$86/ $101 night. When you compare that price with Majestic and take into account the better pool, gym and bigger room with kitchen this place starts looking pretty good IMO. Spiel and pics from the site : shama sukhumvit bangkok featuresuniquely Shama Shama slumber bed Complimentary THANN amenities upon check-in "no boundaries" privilege and lifestyle programme - introduces the hidden gems of the city whether it be for dining, partying, shopping, pampering, escaping or relaxing Shama rooftop - outdoor swimming pool with kids pool Tropical garden with bbq facilities feature feature Private balcony Fully equppied kitchen Complimentary WiFi internet access Electrolux appliances including washer/dryer LCD TV with international programming DVD player with USB ports Sony Hi-Fi audio system iPhone docking station with speaker and alarm clock Safe services Daily maid service (excluding Sundays and public holidays) Towel and linen change twice a week Professtional laundry and dry-cleaning services 24-hour security On-site management providing concierge services Complimentary VCD/DVD library Business centre Airport limousine service (at applicable charge) Fitness centre with yoga room and meditation room Shama den - with flat-screen TV and sofas, billiards, mini portable golf, Wii and PlayStation 2 Shama relax - tenants lounge Children’s indoor play area Healthy Extended Continental Breakfast

I like these self contained places where you can do your own cooking and washing etc. Thanks for a great review Jeimii. Edit: Just checking out their website. I like the virtual tour they have: http://bangkokin360.com/virtualtour/phacharasuites/003/

Thai english translations apps and how to set up (Android)
hughjass85 posted a topic in Technology and I.T Forum
I haven't seen any threads about people using apps to communicate when there is a language barrier. Surprising as I thought they would be quite useful. I have had a brief look at a few on play store and google translate seems to be the best one. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.translate&hl=en If anyone has found any other good ones please post them here. For those that don't know how to set up your phone/tablet to use translators effectively I will run through the process. Before you can translate from Thai ---> English you have to have a way for the other party to input Thai. We do this by adding a thai keyboard. Your version of android will differ but select "Language & input" in the settings on your phone/tablet. Then look for the "Keyboard & input methods" heading and click the settings icon where it says "Android Keyboard" : Now select "Input languages" : You will notice only English is selected : Scroll down and tick the box next to Thai : When in google translate to switch from English to Thai and Thai to English select the arrow in the middle : When you bring up your keyboard notice the button next to the spacebar : Clicking that will put you in "Thai mode" : Pretty straight forward stuff but I thought it might be a useful post in case there are some guys that don't know how to get it set up. I'm interested to hear peoples experiences with these translator apps and if they are very effective. -

No option but to block piko but then you still see the dreaded epileptic inducing butterfly in the forum spy Maybe Piko might be king enough to change it ? -
Would love to know how you get on Dre. It should solve many of the problems I have read about on the forums; IE. Drivers not knowing where to go...drivers over charging or not putting the meter on. I watched a youtube video of a guy hailing maybe 10 taxis and none would put the meter on. I CBF with stuff like that. Anyway, this is all in theory. Let us know how you get on Pal

@Jimmi...be careful you don't lose that thing
