Condoms and oils, a dangerous mix.

Recommended Posts

Forgive me if you all know this like scripture. I did a site search (using the search engine) and couldn't find this topic discussed, so I thought I'd throw it out there.

As far as sex lubricants go, oils are very dangerous--for instance like Johnson & Johnson Baby Oil (a mineral oil), or even something as innocuous as coconut oil. The oils are a bit deceptive too, because they often don't break the condom outright, but nonetheless eat little microscopic holes in the latex, which are invisible to the eye but big enough for STDs, including AIDS to easily pass through.

Water based lubricants are the way to go, though I hate them because they always dry out so quickly (though you can make them slippery again be adding water).

I once tested the above facts (to see how bad the situation about was) with two condoms: one I'd lubed with water based lube and the other with J&J baby oil. I let them sit for about 20 minutes on my bureau then tried to break each by stretching them. I couldn't break the water lube, by the baby oil broke easily with just mild stretching. (I was demonstrating this for a Cambodian GG, who didn't believe me)

I once saw a site that did systematic testing of this sort (unfortunately I can't locate it) and determined that for many oils you only have perhaps 5 minutes before holes develop in the condom. Much more time was needed for breakage but only 5 minutes or so to catch an STD.

All this is bad news for me. I love J&J baby oil to lube up my baby.

This article says it's more like 1 minute with some lubes...

There's apparently silicon based lube, which stays slippery and doesn't damage condoms. I'll look for it in pharmacies.

What I've gathered so far (these aren't my opinions, and don't know how many of these are available in LOS):

"Popular silicon-based lubes include:

Wet Platinum: By the makers of Wet, naturally, this is high quality and very long-lasting.

Eros Bodyglide: It's almost identical to Wet Platinum, but more expensive.

ID Millennium: ID Millennium is a good lube, but not quite as smooth as Eros or Wet Platinum. It's still a good choice, however.

Play Tingling silicone-based lubricant, made by Durex. It provides a tingling sensation and has a minty scent and taste." (Hmmm)

Good post DeepnHard.

I was aware that oils and condoms didn't mix, but had no idea that the effect was so rapid.

This is particularly relevant as I was having a massage recently and the LB masseur used the massage oil (smelled like cheap baby oil) to lube me up before having her wicked way with me. It didn't last long because I had a mild allergic reaction to the oil and had to have her stop as it was quite painful. Perhaps that was a lucky result, though i was quite uncomfortable for the next few hours.

This happened to me recently in australia.. met up with a ladyboy, she put the condom on then reaches for her bottle of lube, about 3 thrusts into it i luckily noticed the pop so to speak and checked, yup broken. I asked to see the bottle it but it was in taiwanese or something. Sure enough it was massage oil! Ruined the night because i was worried there would still be oil lurking around her ass even tho she could of washed it, just not worth the risk. FUCK!

Thank you for starting this interesting topic.

Good lubricants, although they cannot prevent our mounting lust they can at least minimise chafing.

I tend to ask LBs for advice as to what they like and use.

Those who are a little more "travelled" often include Astroglide, a smooth water based lube, as part of their choices.

Having used it a few times, I found it long-lasting and not sticky, so I have stayed with it.

For those capable of of lasting all night (not me) there is a Silicone liquid variety too.

I hope this helps those BMs considering options.

From Wikipedia: "K-Y Jelly is a water-based, water-soluble personal lubricant, most commonly used as a lubricant for sexual intercourse." Hopefully, this means it's not going to be knocking tiny holes in rubber. And it's very easily available (every 7/11) in Bkk.

What pops out of LB handbags is often different but I suspect with most of them these are leftovers from their last encounter. Those I see are very happy to take whatever doesn't end up trashed in the tryst, including condoms and lube.

Ok, here's an update in view of the previous post:
