  1. Just outside Nana Plaza is my favourite place for Thai noodle soup (guai tiau / ก๋วยเตี๋ยว), normally they set up around 6 p.m. Order the standard soup, but incl. the freshly made dumplings. Get there early, usally the dumpling sell out fast.

    BFS Taxi limo price?

Having taken several different modes of transport to Sukhhumvit at different times during the last few years (Bus,Taxi,Private car,Train, Limo), this is my take: The best experience I had with drivers performing the complementary driver-service you get flying e.g. Emirates or Etihad in Business/First, they use e.g.: Limousine Express http://www.limousinethailand.com/. These will take the toll route as far as possiible and will have knowledge of the area incl. short-cuts. This way is most likely the fastest, safest and most comfortable way, but also quiete expensive.(I don't use it unless it's complementry.) Due to traffic if you get a taxi or private car you can have different experiences, some try to drive a shorter part of toll road to safe a little on toll. After a long flight, I would avoid the risk. Since airport-buses are neither cheap not fast, I therefore think the second best option is the train, it's quite easy if you have a trolley or any other easy lagguage. And It's way cheap and comfortable. If you enter at the airport you will get a seat (almost guaranteed). As said before get of at maksan and take a tuk-tuk for the rest. ------------------------------------ p.s.: My recommendation is for high traffic times, at all other times a simple taxi will do the job just fine. I woulrd try "Grubtaxi".
  3. There are tons and tons of great food places in BKK. From top of the line michelin stared restaurants to your mom-and-pop food stall - most serving delicious gorgeous food. I like to recommend three, each one in a different food brackett and with different styles: 1. Din Tai Fung @ Central World - This taiwanese chain servese beautiful dim sun - It's Hong Kong branch was awareded one michelin star - You will spend about 1200-1500 baht on a meal, if you are foodie like myself it is money well spend. 2. Al-Hussain @ Soi3 Sukhumvit - As the waiter said "We serve the best Lebanese-Indian-Thai Food in Bangkok" it is an interesting form of cross over food. Godd quality, great tast, close to nana @ 500-700 baht. I go there @least once when I'm in town. 3. Soup@Nana - In between 18:00 and about 22:00 the soup stall just out of nana-plaza to the left, serves the best wan-tan noudle soup in town - 60 baht - gorgeous soup, for the budget of cheap Charlie - Je suis Charlie

    OTS's Hotel reviews

@OneTrueSaxon: The first guest still free? Thanks
  6. @bangui : That is damm fast, for BKK. @those of us who not so lucky to live in BKK and just come on holiday a few days a year. Of course you can take the cap and considering what you just spend on the flight, it does not make a dent in your budget. However I have found the train to be a good alternative, given that you have only light luggage (not more than a trolley). Also you have to good view from the train. One additional tip from my side. If you are not in a hurry, change at Phaya Thai and take the BTS back to Sukhumivit, it's easier to change there with luggage.

    Managing the Overload

Offline!! No kidding I know what you mean, by sensory overload. ANd just to kind of equalize, I try to live mainly offline when I'm in LOS. I have no laptop or tablet, I bring an oldschool phone and if I need to I use an i-net caffee. Everything else goes in my moleskin-notebook, again oldschool. Being a super-nerd in my normal life - normally I would want to run the toaster with my tablet via a server in Nepal, I know this is not an solution as disired in the it and tec forum. But a few weeks a year I'm the complete opposite and it works perfect for me.

  10. Dragonfruit in the morning, Saté and Stick rice at lunch, and Ladyboy cock at night. Eat healthy, enjoy live.
  11. @lblover1132: I would choose Pattaya, Phuket if you want to relax and Bkk if you want the buzz of a big city. You will find ample and lovely ladyboys in all three places (also in Chiang Mai, Huan Hin and many other places). My recommendation goto Pattaya it's nice and coozy, good for a first timer. As it's close to Bkk make a 2 day side-trip to the big city.

    Flight ratings (2015 updates)

The more I fly, the less I care about the different AIrlines. I don't care what IFE-Systems or Food or .. or .. What I care for is 1.) Safety 2.) Flighttime 3.) Convinient Flightshedule So my two cents worth: 1.) If in Econemy, try to have stop-over on long haul, e.g. if you fly Sweden-Bkk maybe use Emirates or Etihad so you have two 6 hour stints and abreak to stretch your legs. 2.) Better - if you have the douw - fly Business. Then only book direkt flights and go for an overnight flight. Get on board, eat , drink sleep - zzzzzzzZZZZ - welcome to LOS - Perfect. And about all the Inflight junk - bring a good book or an ipad (if you have to) and entertain yourself.

Sawasdee Hotel - Sukhumvit Soi 8

There is a Sawasdee Hotel on Sukhumvit Soi 8. I have stayed there last time very briefly (one night), it's nice and comfy. I was not in the mood that night and preety exhaused from the long fligth, so I did not learn about one important question. Is it LB friendly? I would apprciate feedback of anyone that stayed there. Usually Sawasdee are GG and LB-friendly, however while I was there I only saw backpackers.
